You can be more than you realize, if but society let you only try. This is us dressing up in whatever came to hand to express a certain mood, just showing it is not what you have or know - it is how you use it.

Easy. But exactly where?

In May of 2005 a UP local job is switching the True Value paint factory in Cary, IL. Soon rail service would end to this plant. It later became Fox Valley Systems and closed after a fire in 2013.

For more information about rail served industries along the Chicago & North Western (and later UP) Harvard Subdivision (aka Metra Northwest Line) please see my all-time listing of customers. It goes from Clybourn Junction to the Wisconsin border.

NHS Values Summits bring together a diverse range of people and perspectives to foster greater understanding of how peoples' differences, social status and cultural expectations can affect their experiences of health and care.

Held on a quarterly basis across the country, each summit promotes values-based ways of working and explores a different theme relating to equality, health inequalities and human rights.

The theme of this NHS Values Summit, held on 18th September 2013, was entitled 'Making it happen in Greater Manchester: Integrated care across organisations'. Patient-centred care that is well co-ordinated across care settings and over time is better for all but can particularly benefit patients with long-term, chronic or complex conditions and those who may find it difficult to 'navigate' the health care system.

The Greater Manchester summit was held during National Recovery Month. This provided an opportunity for people to share their recovery stories with others and celebrate their successes, promoting the benefits of prevention, treatment and recovery for those experiencing mental health or substance misuse issues.

As a celebration of shared learning and partnership working, NHS England is pleased to welcome patients and the public, representatives from health and social care, and stakeholders from the private and voluntary/community sectors to these important events.

In a rarely-seen or photographed event, thousands of hapless jellyfish on their way to spawn were stranded and frozen along the shores of the Connecticut River last week. The gelatinous creatures are not uncommon, but usually go unnoticed because they are a cold water species that do not sting. But the necessities of reproduction bring them together in great numbers this time of year, as they return to their traditional spawning grounds. That, combined with a freakish combination of weather conditions allowed lucky and observant onlookers to enjoy this serendipitous spectacle.

"As a rule, we don't even notice them." explained Caleb Shoeworthy, whose family have fished these waters for shad for five generations."The thing is, you just can't see them in the water. They have no color. You could have half a dozen in that bucket and you'd swear there was nothing but water. Even the big ones are pretty much invisible."

Invisible they may be, but any creatures are hard to ignore when they come drifting in to narrow channels in the hundreds of thousands. In some parts of the world, relatives of these jellyfish have been known to clog cooling intakes of nuclear power plants and have forced some giant cruise ships to change their itinerary. A close relative of the common moon jelly "Aurelia aurita", the greater river jelly "A. awlryta" spends its adult life in estuaries such as Long Island Sound. The animal, which is easily killed by heat, moves downriver as it matures in the early spring, but swims to deeper water during the warmer months. It is only when the days shorten and water temperatures drop, that they come inshore and start to move upriver.

"The greater river jelly can cause some pretty impressive spectacles" says Dr. Kent Dogwhistle, head of the Department of Tentacular Studies at Miskatonic University in Massachusetts."but as they are getting their freak on in cold water, not many people are out and about to notice. The jellies can be very common in the Bay of Fundy," he further explained. "But they aren't equipped to handle the tidal bore very well. And the thomping great splat of them hitting the rocks at speed is something you never forget once you've heard it. It's one of those great mysteries of nature as to why they are there in the first place. Hardly any of them survive to complete their lifecycle."

While most jellyfish are marine and live in salt water, freshwater species are not unknown. However, greater river jellies are unique in that they are the only jellyfish known to be anadromous. They are born in small freshwater streams, to which they return to mate, lay their eggs, and die. This is especially impressive considering these jellies are weak swimmers, moving using contractions of their bell-like bodies in a pumping motion.

"It's kind of amazing they get anywhere." Dr. Dogwhistle told this reporter. "They (A. awlryta) wouldn't seem to move fast enough to even count as pelagic. What they do is hardly more than an agitated sort of drifting. Yet, as long as there are no dams along the way, they seem to manage to get upstream. They cannot, obviously, make use of a fish ladder."

And up the Connecticut River they came last week, at least as far as Chicopee. A combination of a post-storm drop in water levels left countless jellies high and dry along the shore and even in trees! And if the sight of school of jellyfish stuck to trunks and impaled on stems and branches was not surprising enough, a sudden cold snap froze the stranded creatures solid. It might have been a rum deal for the jellies, but it was a delight and amazement to onlookers along the river, as is evidenced by this fascinating collection of photographs from Windsor Locks.. They looked, exclaimed a tourist from Miami, like Christmas ornaments.

Dr. Dogwhistle assured us that enough of the plucky cnidaria survive to carry on the species, and that they are likely to continue to do so, unless global temperatures continue to rise.

"They're pollution tolerant, so they are still plentiful, even if no one notices them because they have no commercial value. But they do need the cold. If it does not freeze, we do not see them here. I can only hope that they will continue to thrive and add their beauty to the diversity of these waters."

So, somehow despite paying extra for EMS shipping from Singapore, I still managed to get my MP57 after everyone who preordered in the US did. Needless to say I'm not exactly thrilled with the outcome of this.

MP57 is of course Skyfire/Jetfire, and is the most recently reelased figure in the Masterpiece line up. After seeing the pretty good job that Hasbro/Takara did on the Siege version, I figured that this figure would just be that one, but with much better production values.

Turns out I'm only half right.

Being in MP scale, Jetfire is huge. The box is 20.5 inches long, and is basically the entire length of the Jet mode. Photos have put the Jet mode at the same length as the combined Convoy/Optimus Prime 3.0 with its trailer attached.

Of course, the character mass shifts during transformation to result in a robot mode that is canonically twice as tall as Convoy, but in Jet mode is a flying fortress capable of troop transport. To show this side of things, the set comes with three mini figures - Prime, Wheeljack, and Jazz. Not sure why specifically these three, but that's what they chose..

The mini figures are actually decently articulated, with no articulation on the main torso whatsoever and very basic arms and legs. Which is normally fine (and expected) for figures of this size, but I REALLY thing they should have either given Jezz wrists of maybe considered the awkwardness of how things look with his hands fused like that.

Otherwise, accessories include two additional faces, a battle mask, his rifle, two thruster effects, Decepticon/Blank chest plate and the same Base/Stand that came with the Seekers and Dinobot,

Jet mode features landing gear that are manually operated (I say this because I remember the original G1 toy featuring spring mounted goodness) and there are various compartments you can open up for the mini figures to fit into/use, specifically the cockpit, under the fuselage, in the jetpack, and in the red pods on the lower legs. The pods are also accessible in robot mode should you so wish.

Being an updated G1 toy, this toy can assume the infamous Gerwalk mode that was the result of repurposing a Robotech toy. I honestly can't recall it actually being used in the show, but then again I can't remember many things.

Gerwalk mode can be achieved with or without the arms deployed, but of course the process is a bit more involved than back in the day. In order to make Gerwalk mode a bit more stable, the figure has die cast metal hips that provide additional support for the legs.

While yes, you can actually put the figure in Gerwalk without the support, for your own sanity you're probably going to want to do it, especially if you're displaying it in said mode for a longer period of time.

Transformation into robot mode is for the most part straight forward. MOST part. When you get to the backpack though, you're likely going to want to throw the figure out the window. The whole shifting mechanism is based on sliding panels, which are notoriously bad because of misalignment issues and just general friction. Couple with that some questionable QC and you've got a very frustrating time and getting things to shift and hold together.

The QC issues don't appear to be limited to the backpack as I have had a somewhat difficult time getting the shoulders to slot into their tab properly. I've also got a loose joint on one of my wings, though fortunately that doesn't really affect much. Getting the various accessories into the backpack cavity was also a bit of a challenge due to fit issues. I also found that the heels had to be put in just the right position for it to fold out correctly.

The resulting robot is tall, though when compared to other figures it's not as excessively large in comparison as comparing vehicle modes The goal was G1 accuracy, and you have to admit they did a bang up job from that respect. Proportions were always wonky so no criticisms from me in that regard.

Due to the weight of the figure, the legs are pretty much all ratcheting joints. Which is great from stability perspective, but not that great from an actual posing perspective. The actual hip joints are strong enough for standing robot mode, but the legs will splay out in Gerwalk mode. With the "ab crunch" hip joints deployed, the hips CAN be strong enough, but as always, test and observe. Actual range of motion is pretty typical, and the waist has flaps so you can move the legs out to the side.

However, it should be stated that the figure at least can stand up. My Siege figure has some issues with a loose hip, so it's either stand up straight or do the splits.

The rest of the body is.. pretty standard, really. There's no waist joint, and the shoulders technically are standard shoulders - but because there are additional flaps needed to move the shoulder in place, you technically have Butterfly Joint-type range of motion, but yeah, it looks weird. Elbows are single jointed but you're able to maximize range of motion. Hands are the typical MP hands with semi-fixed positions. The head can actually pull up a bit for additional range of motion

In general, you're probably not doing any dynamic battle poses without the stand, and even then you're doing them with the figure facing forward because there's only so much you can do laterally.

Speaking of heads, the facial expressions are alright, and the battle mask appears to be useable with or without an underlying face (though I think it fits better without the face under, so that might just be me forcing the thing on). It attaches with a magnet, so the grip is just the right amount to hold it in place. The faces, on the other hand, are friction based and can be a royal pain to get on and off. The other head gimmick to mention is in the head there's a meter of some sort. I don't remember the purpose of this, but I think it had to do with his changing of allegiances between Autobot and Decepticon (Jetfire was a scientist associate of Starscream).

So there you have it. Was it worth the wait? Ehhh.. I mean, it's not as bad as I thought it would be, but it turns out the lack of waist was my smallest concern. It just feels to me like the QC guys dropped the ball, because if they can get smaller figures to tab and slot n perfectly, there's no reason a figure that is at least double that size can't get it right. I mean, the new Seekers are much more complicated transformation wise and I don't have any problems like I do with Jetfire... though I guess the weak hips on the seekers is a problem I avoid here.

I think overall, though, unless you're looking specifically for a G1 styled Jetfire, you should probably consider the Siege figure, especially if you get one that doesn't have joint issues. It's like 1/3 the price, about the same size, and is significantly less frustrating to deal with.

I found all this at Value Village, all told for $72 No sets are complete, all are missing at least 1 or two minifigs, smaller items in the set, and a couple cases had some glue on them, most notable the TIE advanced. Still one heck of a deal.

Today's launch of the war of aggression against Iran is yet another chapter in a series of serious violations of international law. In a display of obvious megalomania, the US leadership has christened its military strike ‘Operation Epic Fury’. In just a few days, it will become clear that ‘decapitation strikes’ cannot force the Iranian leadership to surrender!

The photo was taken in early 2009 during protests against Israel's military action against Gaza.

Security Contributor William Parker and Correspondent Alfred Lennard were embedded with Unit 302 of the Coalition's Counter-Terrorism Division. They joined the unit on a night raid — one of many taking place across the region on an almost nightly basis.

The unit deployed in a ground convoy using Ground Mobility Vehicles donated by Victoria. To avoid detection, they drove under the cover of darkness, maintaining strict radio and light discipline.

Upon arrival, the soldiers quickly dismounted and advanced toward their objective: the capture of an Al-Asad commander believed to be orchestrating attacks in the region — a high-value target whose removal could disrupt insurgent operations.

Founded in 2008 after more than a decade of research at Stanford, Silicon Valley-based startup, Ayasdi, is on a mission to reinvent the methods by which we transform Big Data into actionable knowledge. Essentially, Ayasdi aims to automate the insight discovery process, allowing end users to find valuable intelligence within massive datasets almost instantaneously. Backed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the National Science Foundation, the startup’s novel synthesis of machine learning and data analysis technologies has not gone unnoticed by investors.

Today, the startup announced that it has raised $10 million in series A financing, led by Khosla Ventures and Floodgate. The new round brings the startup’s total funding to $13.25 million, which includes contributions both from its current investors as well as angel investors like Michael Ovitz, Steve Blank and The Data Collective’s Matt Ocko, to name a few.

The investment comes at a time when venture capital is beginning to shift from consumer businesses to the enterprise, as investors look to capitalize on the rise of the big data app and the growing demand for a new data infrastructure.

In fact, Research firm IDC recently predicted that the Big Data market is poised for exponential growth over the next few years, with total revenue projected to reach $24 billion by 2016. What’s more, following Derrick Harris’ logic, if one includes analytics software (arguably an essential segment of the Big Data market) in that definition, then the total is actually upwards of $75 billion.

Yet, in spite of this enormous new market opportunity, the emergence of Big Data doesn’t necessarily directly translate into a net positive for business, humankind, etc. In other words, people tend to conflate information and data, such that we end up believing that more data inherently means (proportionately) more information, which in turn means (proportionately) more intelligence, insight and value. However, as Dr. Michael Wu points out, it’s quite literally the opposite: “The more data you have, the less information you gain as a proportion of the data.”

The true value of Big Data is derived from the insights hidden within, yet, while all insights are information, not all information produces insight. Big Data is comprised of enormous amounts of unstructured data, a wide array of data types and media, but the amount of insight that can be extracted from that data is proportionately tiny.

Big Data continues to grow, yet, while governments, businesses and scientists have spent years (and millions of dollars) attempting to address the world’s biggest problems by analyzing Big Data, progress has been incremental. Although Big Data tools have improved over time, Ayasdi is of the mindset that they are still failing to yield the kind of breakthrough insights that lead to true innovation.

The Ayasdi co-founders attribute this to the prevailing reliance among data scientists on old models — finding insights by asking questions and writing queries. The problem with this is that queries are inherently based on human assumptions and biases, and, in turn, query results tend to only reveal slices of data, rather than providing visibility into the relationships between similar groups of data. This method of discovering insight in Big Data tends to be rely heavily on iterative guesswork and chance, and thus takes time to produce real results.

To address this problem, Ayasdi is today officially launching its cloud-based insight discovery platform, which aims to deliver insight derived from massive datasets quickly, without relying on queries. The machine learning platform combines computer science with a branch of mathematics called “Topological Data Analysis,” which allows Ayasdi to visualize entire datasets at once.

The startup’s platform uses hundreds of machine learning algorithms to explore these complex datasets — the goal being the automatic discovery of insights that could not be discovered through ad hoc or query-based methods. The platform, which is designed for domain experts, data scientists and researchers, requires no coding or modeling and offers the kind of scalability that more demanding processing requires. It also is built to complement other Big Data solutions companies might already be using and is able to work with datasets of any size or type, the co-founders tell us.

The startup is currently working with enterprise customers in financial services, life sciences, oil and gas and the public sector, with these companies employing its platform to help discover new drugs, for example, improve cancer therapy by discovering new insights from an 11-year old breast cancer dataset that included new sub-populations of breast cancer survivors, for example. It’s also being used to explore new energy sources, identifying patterns that can lead to more accurate drilling, predict fraud and help prevent terrorist attacks.

“The answers to today’s most important scientific, business and social problems lie in data,” saus Ayasdi CEO Gurjeet Singh. “The biggest challenge in Big Data today is asking the right questions of data, so the real opportunity in Big Data lies in the automation of insight discovery — regardless of the complexity of that data — without requiring users to ask questions. The goal is for Ayasdi to provide users with answers to questions that they didn’t know to ask in the first place.”

The Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek is an imposing building with international appeal. It is of inestimable cultural and historical value, having the status of a nationally protected monument and being included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

From the outside the building is monumental, but inside it is innovative and modern.

It was designed by the architects Van der Vlugt and Brinkman and built between 1925 and 1931. It was designed around the concepts of light, air and space, inspired by the 'new building' philosophy of the past.

For many years these buildings were factories producing coffee, tea and tobacco. In the mid 1990s the factories were closed, and renovation work started in 1998. Nowadays they house inspiring offices and business workspaces. They also offer an attractive location for events, conferences, seminars, movie and theatre productions and photo-shoots.

BENCHED IN SEATTLE WA

The rune Mann, written in the last night's hoar frost. Runes were an alphabet used in some parts of Northern Europe before the general adoption of the Latin alphabet. Mann has the value of M in the Latin alphabet. Its name Mann means 'Man, Human Being' . In the Old English Rune Poem it is said of Mann: "In his mirth man is dear to his kinsmen. Yet each is bound to fail his fellow because the Lord, by his decree, wishes to commit the wretched body to the earth" - which all sounds a bit grim! I prefer to see it as two Wyn (Joy) runes (Shaped like a pointed P) kissing, symbolising a love of all Humankind - Old English Flower Power Mann!

Featured Image from Sonata Series

Sonata concentrates on seeing rather than looking. In our waking-state, we look at things all the time but consciously unless chosen to do we make the effort to see. This on-going series concentrates on the elements of design ; color, line, shape texture form and pattern. Each image composes of a singular point of interest to achieve photographic satisfaction. Here the visible, mundane & overlooked has its moment.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Chance Nkosi Gomez known initiated by H.H Swami Jyotirmayanda as Sri Govinda walks an integral yogic path in which photography is the primary creative field of expression. The medium was introduced during sophomore year of high school by educator Dr. Devin Marsh of Robert Morgan Educational Center. Coming into alignment with light, its nature and articulating the camera was the focus during that time. Thereafter while completing a Photographic Technology Degree, the realization of what made an image “striking” came to the foreground of the inner dialogue. These college years brought forth major absorption and reflection as an apprentice to photographer and educator Tony A. Chirinos of Miami Dade College. The process of working towards a singular idea of interest and thus building a series became the heading from here on while the camera aided in cultivating an adherence to the present moment. The viewfinder resembles a doorway to the unified field of consciousness in which line, shape, form, color, value, texture all dissolve. It is here that the yogi is reminded of sat-chit-ananda (the supreme reality as all-pervading; pure consciousness). As of May 2024 Govinda has completed his 300hr yoga teacher training program at Sattva Yoga Academy studying from Master Yogi Anand Mehrotra in Rishikesh, India, Himalayas. This has strengthened his personal Sadhana and allows one to carry and share ancient Vedic Technology leading others in ultimately directing their intellect to bloom into intuition. As awareness and self-realization grows so does the imagery that is all at once divine in the mastery of capturing and controlling light. Over the last seven years he has self-published six photographic books, Follow me i’ll be right behind you (2017), Sonata - Minimal Study (2018), Birds Singing Lies (2018), Rwanda (2019), Where does the body begin? (2019) & Swayam Jyotis (2023). Currently, Govinda is employed at the Leica Store Miami as a camera specialist and starting his journey as a practitioner of yoga ॐ
