The NHS Values Summit brings together a diverse range of people and perspectives to create a greater understanding of how people’s differences, social status and cultural expectations can affect their experiences of health and care.
It challenges and inspires people to think about the role of ethical leadership in improving the health and wellbeing of local communities, staff and patients and how the NHS can increase the social value of its activities.
Welcoming representatives from health and social care, alongside more than 20 partners from the voluntary and community sector, this event (in Leeds, Yorkshire) was a template for future NHS Values Summits, which will be held twice a year in different locations across the country. Each event will explore a different theme relating to equality, health inequalities and human rights. The next gathering will take place in May 2013.

What could be more fun than gummies and whipped cream? I once worked with a guy whose hobby was photographing the expressive faces of gummy bears. He found diverse emotions in his snack. Only one manufacturer seemed to have this much detail (he told me). In this image I think you can see the bear on the summit of the whipped cream smiling. Wouldn't you?
This was a challenge to get the flash set up properly. I wanted enough diffuse light to not produce highlights on the pencil lead, but directional light from outside the frame to cast a shadow from the pencil. I ended up holding the mirror from this photo to bounce some of the flash's light .

On August 1, 2014, we hosted an Ecotourism* Luncheon with Miles Phillips from Texas A & M.
Miles spoke on the value of ecotourism to an area.
The A & M website has the following:
Mr. Phillips is an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist with Texas Agrilife Extension Service. His specialty is Nature Tourism and he is a member of the Recreation, Parks and Tourism Sciences Department at Texas A&M University.
In his current position he supports program development for the extension agents in all 254 counties. He also works directly with clients across the state. He is a member of the Texas State Tourism Agency Council, the Texas Travel Industry Association Nature Tourism Council and one of the 8 members of the National Extension Tourism Design Team.
He has conducted ecotourism development work in Texas, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, West Virginia, and South Carolina. Prior to his work in ecotourism Mr. Phillips worked as a consulting environmental engineer doing site assessments, construction oversight and managing large scale (“Superfund”) environmental remediation projects. He credits a month long trip to southern Africa in 1994 as motivating his career redirection into ecotourism development.
Mr. Phillips regularly conducts presentations, workshops, individual consultations and training programs with entities interested in developing nature tourism operations. This includes communities, businesses, & non-profit organizations. He often works directly with ranchers & farmers for diversification and private landowners/developers. He enjoys leading specialty wildlife tours and is a certified Interpretive Guide Trainer, training people to be more effective communicators.
*(One of our objectives is ecotourism. We've partnered with Texas A & M and
the Goldthwaite EDC this summer to work on the ecotourism component of our
project under Miles Phillips. We've had a summer intern Kelly Simersky from
A & M who did a fantastic job! What this entails is:
We offer off-site tours to local ranches and area attractions in areas such
as Archeology, Astronomy, Entomology, Fishing, Native Grasses, Wildflowers,
Plant Communities, Photography, Rainwater Harvesting, Riparian Environments,
Wildlife Management, Fossils, Minerals, Rocks, and Pecans. The land owners
and ranchers will collect the fees with, perhaps, 15% going toward our
project for the networking. This is still in the development stage. )
This is a photo for VALUE, I took this photo by pointing my camera up. I like the way the leafs fill up the frame, I wish the whites weren't so blown out.
I made this quilt using batiks for my mother-in-law's Christmas present. Though I usually shy away from batiks, I LOVE how they turned out in the quilt!
The NHS Values Summit brings together a diverse range of people and perspectives to create a greater understanding of how people’s differences, social status and cultural expectations can affect their experiences of health and care.

I hate this. Why invite such a stupid guy to write preface for Woz? Since this book is my sole property, I tore off these disgusting three pages.
