A uranium glass marble and a rhomb of calcite respectively fluoresce and phosphoresce on a small shortwave (UVC) ultraviolet light. The uranium glass marble exhibits a yellow-green fluorescence. This type of calcite exhibits blue phosphorescence when stimulated with shortwave UV light: it will continue to glow for a few seconds after the UV source is removed.
The marble is about 1.5cm in diameter. Both are transparent under normal light; the calcite is colourless while the marble has a slight yellowish tint.

This experiment demonstrates the amount of visible (blue) light reflected or absorbed and then re-emitted at a lower wavelength (fluorescence) in a specimen of hackmanite from Afghanistan. The hackmanite is in a tenebrescent state which makes it purple. This color does not effect the results of this experiment but it does make the hackmanite easier to distinguish from the rest of the rock.
A small piece of aluminum foil was placed next to the hackmanite as an example of a "perfect" reflector. It does not fluoresce. Note: for the UVa picture, the foil was removed to prevent accidental exposure to eyes and the camera by the UVa light.

This yellow DAF truck from the UK was merging onto the A28, just outside the commune of Alençon in northern France. The truck was operated by Whittle International Movers, a home removals/storage company based in the city of Preston, the capital of Lancashire in north-western England. The truck was registered to the largest city in Yorkshire, Leeds, located in the north of England, and where i go to university too. This was the first instance where i had spotted a Leeds-registered vehicle abroad, though the VW we were travelling in was also from Leeds too.
