Listen: Foy Vance - Joy of nothing

Waking up with the pouring rain

Same old sun in the sky again

Collared doves and fighter planes

Sharing the sky like it's nothing strange

Foliage silhouette on an evening sky

A morning greeting a baby's cry

The singing of late night lullabies

Oh the joy of nothing

Is a sweeter something

And I will hold it in my heart

I will hold it in my heart

Ulysses and eulogies

Gainsbourg Ginsberg Socrates

All mean nought and everything

Oh the joy of nothing

Is a sweeter something

And I will hold it in my heart

I will hold it in my heart

DSLR selfie captured in September 2024.

Yesterday, not far from home, a guy drove past me and, leaning out of his window, shouted "weirdo" because he saw me wearing a 3M Aura respirator face mask.

Yes, it affected me a little, but that is because I am a 'highly sensitive person' and have CPTSD with a history of having been bullied and abused but, honestly, I call myself that and worse from time to time and I have been called far worse by other people.

Mostly I felt sadness and pity. That public health messaging, and in his case, education itself, has failed.

I do not mask because I am anxious. I do not mask because I am afraid of Covid-19. I mask because I understand airborne infection processes, have read too many reputable peer-reviewed papers on the damages of Covid-19 and because I have a baseline that I need to protect.

I have already suffered permanent damage and disability from a single Covid infection two years ago. I live alone, have nobody to care for me, and already have a disability baseline that I need to protect. I can't afford to be more ill or more disabled. I am not afraid of Covid. I am, understandably, afraid of losing the baseline of health that I have right now. I protect that.

Droplet dogma permeates our health institutions and they are reluctant and are politically pushed to ignore airborne infection despite nosocomial Covid and Flu being a major issue that is killing many vulnerable people every week. It's an Ignaz Semmelweis situation all over again. I guess change takes time.

It doesn't have to be that way. We can have clean air. Our immune system is not a muscle that needs to be trained by viral infections - viruses do damage, always.

In the absence of clean indoor air with adequate ventilation, HEPA filtration and high UVC treatment, the only protection from airborne disease is FFP2/3 (N95/99) respirator masks. They work. Surgical and cloth masks do not work.

I have had just one infection since the end of 2019. How many times have you or your family and friends been sick? Was that normal before the pandemic?

It was normal to have maybe one or two simple colds each year, ones that were uncomfortable for a few days. Maybe, once every 20 years you would get influenza and be bedbound feeling like you are dying for a week or so.

Now people are much more ill with each infection and are ill far more often. Covid-19 did this. It damages the immune system in a similar way to HIV. In fact, in many countries HIV drugs are being used and trialled to treat Covid and Long Covid now.

I prefer not to be sick. I have always been a square peg in a round hole too so I don't mind standing out if it keeps me safe and well.

I think we need to stop the normalising of spreading our respiratory diseases to others. We have the tools and technology to stop the suffering. Demand clean indoor air. We cleaned our drinking water to stop Cholera. Why would you not want to stop the spread of Covid-19, influenza, RSV, TB, Measles and more?

Food for thought.

I wanted to share because public health messaging has failed us. Knowledge is power.

I don't really care if you or anyone else thinks that I am weird. Especially when I have just stepped off a bus full of people coughing their lungs up.

Street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

Facts matter.

The 'summer cold' you may be hearing about, especially with razorblade throat' symptoms is highly unlikely to be a cold or 'flu. It will most likely be Covid.

SARS-Cov-2 and Covid19 never went away. Testing diminished and reporting stopped. The deaths and long term damage did not stop.

Covid is airborne.

Social distancing and washing your hands will not protect you from Covid.

It will hang in the air, like smoke, for hours in an unventilated room.

You can catch it outside from people's breath.

Each infection increases your risk of developing permanent internal damage 'Long Covid'.

6 years of scientific data and over 500,000 peer reviewed studies published by the most illustrious and respected medical and scientific journals around the world show the extent of the damage that SARS2/Covid19 does to the body.

Just some of it includes lung scarring, vascular damage (the lining of your blood vessels), causes clots and micro-clots (strokes, heart attacks), brain damage in the form of 'brain fog' and 'cognitive deficit' where it actually reduces brain tissue mass and fuses brain cells together, and immune system damage in a similar way to HIV that leaves you open to greater impacts from other opportunistic viral, bacterial and fungal infections. This is the tip of the iceberg. Because of the way that SARS2 binds to and replicates within our cells it can cause damage to almost every single part of the body. Viral reservoirs of Covid have even been found in semen some 6 months post-infection. Covid is oncogenic too. It has been shown to accelerate and 'supercharge' some cancers.

Even mild and asymptomatic infection causes internal damage.

Lateral flow tests are unreliable. A positive result will always be correct but they produce a high percentage of false negatives because swabbing is not always done correctly and the test sensitivity is not high. You also need to test every day during your infection.

You are most infectious for two days before you even notice symptoms.

If you have lingering symptoms from an infection that was likely to be Covid, you have 'Long Covid'. The numbers are grossly undercounted as many people don't realise their ongoing issues are Long Covid. Despite that, new figures record over 6 million children in the USA have Long Covid. An estimated 400 million people worldwide.

You have a 10-25% chance of developing Long Covid with each infection. Unprotected you are likely catching Covid at least 3-4 times a year - rolling the dice every single time.

Deaths are grossly undercounted too. The estimated 23 million deaths worldwide is not even remotely close. Graphs show the extent of this. Excess deaths compared to pre-pandemic levels, deaths from heart attacks in working age people, strokes, pneumonia, cancer in younger age groups. All rising continuously since the start of the ongoing pandemic.

You can protect yourself.

Well fitting FFP2/3 (N95/N99) masks worn indoors and in crowded places are the best protection we have. Far-UVC light, filtration and ventilation indoors.

Surgical and cloth masks will do little to protect you and other people. They offer just a small degree of protection. Vaccination will reduce the risk of severe outcomes but it will not eliminate the risk.

Why do I share this from time to time?

Because I care.

Because I hate that disinformation and lies have dominated the discourse on Covid.

Because I don't want you to suffer Long Covid as I am.

I have just spent two weeks recovering from a single 3 hour photography trip into Glasgow during which I spent a lot of time sitting down and resting. I wanted to go into Glasgow today but I am still not recovered enough and I know, that when I do make it, I will suffer for it afterwards.

I don't want any of you to experience this.

Please take it seriously. You only get one chance to stay healthy. You will miss it when it's gone.

Thank you for reading this.

Lothian Country's 190 SN13 BFV, a Voith/Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urban 2, on service 276 from Bathgate to Broxburn via Craigshill, Houstoun Industrial Estate, Uphall Station and Uphall.

190 was new to Lothian Buses in early to mid 2013 along with 176 - 189.

2016 seen 190 get repainted and transferred to East Coast Buses with the fleet number being altered with a 10××× prefix added making 190 become 10190.

In 2017, 186 - 189, with 190 returning back to Lothain Buses, were all painted into Skylink livery for the launch of service Skylink200, 176 - 185 remained doing City work. 186 - 190 were subsequently repainted into Lothian Buses livery later on in the year once the Gemini 2 B5LH's entered service and the service Skylink200 was upgraded to double decker capacity.

In March 2021 186 and 187 were transferred to Lothian Country, in April 2021 188 and 190 were transferred to Lothian Country then finally 189 in May 2021.

in November 2019 176 - 185 were transferred to Lothian Country for use on Lothian Country's (new at the time) service X38 between Linlithgow and Edinburgh, 177 - 180 and 182 were branded for service X38 (176 never received the branding but had Lothian Country logos, 181 was never branded for service X38 since it suffered an engine fire and was off service for 2 years)

In September 2020 176 - 180 and 182 - 185 returned to service and were all debranded from service X38 ( this was both a result of the Coronavirus lockdown with all services ran with double decker buses loaned by Lothian Buses so Lothian Country's buses could get fitted with driver protection screens and that service X38 was withdrawn due to low customer usage pre-Covid-19).

In November 2021 181 re-entered service after its engine fire and is now wearing the new shared livery between Lothian Country and East Coast Buses.

As of the date this was uploaded (28/05/2022) Lothian Country have 20 Eclipse 2's in their fleet with 2 currently being used as trainers (171 and 172) 3 in reserve at Lothian Buses Marine depot (173, 174 and 175 along with East Coast Buses 10195 and 10196) and 15 in day to day service (being 176 - 190). All together Lothian Buses has 29 Eclipse 2's across their fleets including 4 training buses (TB1 - TB4), 20 Lothian Country Buses and 5 East Coast Buses.

This is a list of all Eclipse 2's across the Lothian Buses fleets including liveries and depots:

Notes:

10195 and 10196 are though to re-enter service upon the upcoming service change due to take effect on Sunday 5th June 2022 due to a PVR (Peak Vehicle Requirement) increase of 3 for East Coast Buses with the addition of the X5 requiring 4 buses and the curtailment of the 113 between West Granton and the Western General Hospital taking of a bus.

173 - 175 are believed to stay in storage for now with the possibility of 171 and 172 returning to storage in Marine due to the PVR decrease of 5 at Lothian Country with the rerouting of the service 276 to serve Pumpherston, Ladywell, St John's Hospital, Ash Grove in Blackburn and the extension from Bathgate Morrisons to operate through two thirds of the Wester Inch estate in Bathgate requiring 1 additional bus with the withdrawl of the 275 taking 6 buses of the road.

Disclaimer - the information I have provided about the depots and the liveries are correct from Saturday 28th May 2022 (the date of upload), I won't be editing this specific description if there are any changes. I will only update this list (if there are any changes) if I post another photo of a Eclipse 2 which I will post the most up to date information on there!

In the background is Lothian Country's 1028 LXZ 5413, a ZF/ Volvo B9TL Wright Eclipse Gemini 2, operating the service X28 from Bathgate to Edinburgh via Dedridge East, Mid Calder, East Calder, Kirknewton, Dalmahoy, Sighthill, Gorgie, Dalry and Princes Street.

1028 was new to First Centrewest London in late to mid 2010 as their "VN37916" which had the registration of "BF60 VHW" and predominantly operated the service 18 from Sudbury and Euston.

VHW was later sold to Metroline Centrewest London in *2013 after First Capital's demise then was acquainted the fleet number of "VW1868".

In 2017, 50 Gemini 2's, in a similar situation to VHW, were all sold to Lothian Buses but not before they were all sent to WrightBus in Ballymena (for the exeptions of 1001 and 1002 which were refurbished at Thorntons in Ashington England) Northern Ireland to be extensively refurbished to high quality Lothian specifications all receiving the registrations "LXZ 53××" and "LXZ 54××". 25 were sent to Lothian Buses Central and all started working in Edinburgh between June and August 2018 with the other 25 being sent to Lothian Country which started working West Lothian local routes from the Longstone depot until the purchase of the Livingston depot in March 2019.

Lothian Buses had gained many Volvo B9TL Wright Eclipse Gemini 2's from London mostly from Metroline Centrewest (which were previously owned by First Centrewest London) and 2 from this batch were previously owned by Go-Ahead London (them being 1001 and 1002) to upgrade their fleet and for Lothian Country's new (at the time) West Lothian bus services (being X27/ X28 and 275).

The first batch of them were 1001 - 1050 and they started entering service July 2018 and all entering service by late September 2018.

These buses are unique to Lothian Buses as they are shorter (instead of the usual 11.5 meters they are 10.8) and they have a ZF transmission instead of a voith which most Volvo Chassis Lothian Buses have.

Out of the 50 buses:

25 of them went to Lothian Buses in their Central depot (these being 1001 - 1002, 1005 - 1012, 1014 - 1027 and 1050) and the remaining 25 went to Lothian Country (these being 1003, 1004, 1013 and 1028 - 1049).

The next batch of ex London B9TL's entered service in May 2019 (1000 and 1141 - 1153), these are different than the previous batch as these have an exit middle door, minus 1000. These have so far remained their entire Lothian Buses life the the Marine depot in Seafield apart from 1000 which was sent to Central in 2019 then transferred to Longstone in 2020 then subsequently back to Central in 2021.

This is a list of all ex London B9TL's with their current and previous registrations including their current housing depot with Lothian Buses or Lothian Country (all Livingston based buses are Lothian Country):

Notes:

1029 was withdrawn in July of 2019 following a collision with a low hanging bridge in Fauldhouse and was subsequently scrapped, 1029 was housed in Livingston prior to this.

1141 and 1142 are suspected to loans from Marine to cover for the repaints of the 350 - 400 series of Gemini 2's in Central.

1050 is suspected, however is very speculative, to be loaned to Longstone from Central for the repaints of the 551 - 570 Gemini 3 series housed in the Longstone depot.
