From the North Pennine Orefield in Northern England comes this 8" wide collection. The plate of green fluorite is from the Rogerley Mine near Frosterley while the other rocks come from the Rampgill Mine near Nenthead, Cumbria about 20 miles away. The Rampgill mine is in the "Barite Zone" while the Rogerley mine is in the "Fluorite Zone". The two zones are sharply delineated and resulted from temperature gradients in the mineralizing hydrothermal solutions driven by the high heat flow from the buried Weardale granite.

Ultraviolet astronomy photos taken with telescope on moon, Apollo 16.
Disclaimer: I am not endorsed by NASA, I have done this out of intrest for the Apollo Program in my free time.
File information:
This set includes Apollo 16 UVC scans from NASA converted to JPGs by Thomas.
This set also includes unconverted scans from NASA, with a RAW prefix and .raw extension. The latter can not be read by conventional image software. For more information on how it was scanned, see NSSDC link below.
To get the RAW files, see 'Download options' window and click on 'SHOW ALL'
Why, and story:
The Apollo 16 UVC experiment photos are not all readily available on the internet. Original files have been received by NASA by asking here:
nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/datasetDisplay.do?id=ASUV-00017
At this website you can read how the raw files were decoded into image files viewable by modern operating systems: www3.telus.net/summa/faruv/explain.htm
Usefull Information:
The Revised S201 catalog of far-ultraviolet objects inspects some images in detail. A great source of information.

From the basement lab comes this 3.5" wide specimen. Willemite comes to the party....
On an aluminum tray containing a bed of salt + 40 drops of a silicate solution, Zn2SiO4:Mn, CaS:Mn and SrS were spread in a thin layer. The Zn2SiO4 mix (willemite) was placed around the periphery, the SrS mix (strontium sulfide) was placed between and the CaS mix (calcium sulfide) was placed in the center. The sample was then well heated with a MAPP torch until most of the salt had melted.
Zn2SiO4 mix: penny ZnCl2 sol + sodium silicate sol / filtered, dried, fired + NaCl {2 spn}
CaS mix: fresh CaCO3 {1 spn}, S {1 spn}, NaCl {2 spn} + MnSO4 sat. sol {1.1 drops}
SrS mix: AA SrCO3 {1 spn}, S {1 spn}, NaCl {1 spn}
Contains:
SrS (FL+PHOS!! Greenish yellow >UVa,bc)
CaS (FL+PHOS! Reddish orange, Orange >UVa,bc)
Zn2SiO4 (FL+PHOS Green >UVc)
The orange "vein" (under UVab) between the ZnSiO4:Mn and the SrS may be ZnS:Mn. ??
