There used to be 3 of these gorgeous mangroves at Beachmere and they were lovingly known by local photographers as the " Three Sisters". I went here last night to do a star shoot with some friends and was saddened to see that only one remains, the last one to fall was still only metres away so its only recent that its succumbed to the elements, in fact you can still see where it stood in this photo.

I used to swim here as a teenager.... These days, I prefer to sit in the shade and watch as the young ones have their fun in the water.

It's a very popular spot. There's a huge barbecue area, a foot bridge to cross to the other side for a walk, lots of ducks in the water, and it has also become a very popular spot for weddings.

Just near here is the Axeman's Hall of Fame, where our own champion axeman David Foster is heavily featured.

Not a conventional title, but I have to admit that this beauty is from last year and that is why I called it a used bird. A couple of these beauties have returned this year, but they were extremely skittish and I had little luck yesterday on the bayou. The winds were a bit higher as I made a rare visit to the bayou in the afternoon. In some places the trees blocked the wind and it was quite pleasant, but it caused issues in other areas. I’ll get to the photos from yesterday in due time. This Roseate Spoonbill was foraging in an area that we call the flats and was a bit more cooperative. Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou and a bit of a change of pace from the usual characters that we usually see.

We used to call into this hide each afternoon on our way out of Pilanesberg Game Park. There were always many birds roosting and on one occasion we spotted a huge crocodile stalking some of the birds. He had a couple of lunges at the birds on lower branches, without success.

Used up half my tube with hand cream to get this photo!

Using the LRGB data only for this version. Without the dual narrowband filter for luminance this version has larger stars (even with Blur Xterminator) and it changes the emphasis in the nebula. Experimenting with some processing and scripts in Syril, including the new Syqon star removal. I think this left some defects which I had to mostly crop out to hide.

I used the Modern Mood Quilt tutorial to make these blocks. It was really fun and I totally enjoyed the process! I'd love to make a bigger composition with this method one day, but for now, this is enough.

Kristine, I hope you love them as much as I do! (and I'm sorry about some of the puckers.. piecing curves is a skill I'm still trying to master!)

Taken, using ND filters, after a couple of days of intense rain and storms, this well-known waterfall in the province of Segovia, Spain, demonstrates the loss of water as Spanish summers progress.

This was the first time I have visited this waterfall, despite living in Central Spain for 25 years. Must go back in the spring to see the full flow.

Macro Mondays: single use

Upon the top of that same craggy ridge

The caption used is from a poem by William Wordsworth, from The Prelude.

While at a roadside pullout along the main park road on the Tennessee side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The view is looking to the north-northwest to ridges and peaks of the Eastern Great Smoky Mountains with Anakeesta Ridge. Given the low clouds that were along the mountain peaks, I chose to minimize those overcast skies and focus the image on the spurs and ridges coming off the main peaks. I liked the layers that they brought out with the tree lines and the way the spurs and ridges seemingly came after the other. The rest was metering the image to so that I could capture some of the details present in the overcast skies while still being able to pull the more shadowed areas along the mountainside later in post production.

I shot this image about a month ago when seawater was still warm and at last quite after the summer massive invasion of tourists. There was no one and I was so happy to take a bath completely naked and with a silver wig on! But, at one point it came a man who stopped on the rocks in front of me, staring. Fortunately I wasn't alone and he asked if we were shooting for a commercial or something like that. I ducked in the water and said : NO! It's personal! And with my surprise he nodded with no apparent intention to move form that rock. Thankfully, his mobile rang and he went away. People are crazy! XD

Used a daffodil leaf twisted up to form water droplets on.

I got the inspiration after noticing that after rain these leaves held droplets well.

the ford gt makes me use big letters for introducing it.

as a man you cannot get closer to the car without feeling the rising tension and your accelerated heartbeat.

the gt is the most macho car you can buy today.

and it´s very difficult to do a good shot of a complete gt - if you ever tried it you know what i mean ;)

Used garden hose to wet windows to simulate rain.

Shot with 3 strobes.

Used my last day in Lisbon to shoot directly in B&W—in this case, the Monochrome film simulation. Limestone streets and sidewalks, stylish locals dressed in white or B&W, made it a target-rich environment.

Located in the heart of historic Virginia City, First Presbyterian Church was established in 1862. The Carpenter Gothic style church building was built in 1866 at the cost of $4,700. Later, buildings on either side of the church were purchased to provide a meeting room, pastor's apartment and a rental space. The total cost was $12,000.

In 1871 a massive fire destroyed most of Virginia City. As the only public building not destroyed by the fire, First Presbyterian Church was immediately pressed into service as a soup kitchen, makeshift hospital and District Court Room.

Mine closings in the 1890's and a resulting population shift in Virginia City caused a decline in church membership. The church managed to keep going until 1947 when it was closed. The building languished until 1954 when it narrowly escaped demolition. A campaign was begun to restore the building. Regular worship services resumed in 1959.

First Presbyterian Church is currently the oldest Presbyterian Church still in use in the State of Nevada. Today its small, but dedicated congregation serves the people Virginia City and beyond

Using a Bill Devin glass body, with in this case, the little nose extending in front, thus the anteater name, chosen by Grierson's wife! (Echidna are the Spiny Anteater cousins of the platypus from Australia & NZ, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echidna ) The Echidna team of 3 created 3 racers so they could each go racing! Seems simple....and the cars were raced by family and friends, and sometimes by the three themselves.

Grierson, Larson and Staver all hailed from Hibbing, Minnesota, (home of Bob Dylan and Roger Maris) which meant the men enjoyed plenty of time for conversation in the winter months. One such conversation addressed the success that Jim Jeffords and Dr. Dick Thompson were having running 3,000-pound production-class Corvettes against the lighter D-toype Jaguars, Ferraris and Maseratis competing in the SCCA modified classes. What if, the men speculated, you could stuff Corvette mechanicals in a 2,000 pound sports racer?

Built in '57-'58 by the 3 Minnesota amateurs (with help from Duntov), Echidna became the most successful American racing special, and outright won the 1959 B-modified National championship. To win that championship the Echidna had beaten the best of Ferrari, Maserati and numerous specials driven by professionals.

Chevy based, on a shortened, narrowed '56 stock Chevy frame , with a small block 283 ci bored to 339 with Rochester injection, alloy heads from Duntov, independent front and Positraction with Wattlink rear. The body is very light weight by Bill Devin. Raced successfully till the seventies, its history is too long to list. A Scarab driven by Jeffords, a Lister Corvette by Windrige, a Maserati 300S by Lloyd Ruby are a few of its victims. All the cars beaten then and now by Echidna, sell for multi-million dollars, and were significant bucks even when new.

On the track, the Echidna faced stiff competition at events like Road America from the Lister-Jaguars, Ferrari 750 and 860 Monza, Mondial and Testa Rossa, Maserati 450S, Lister Corvette and Jaguar D-type. In two seasons, the Echidnas started 35 races and won 8 overall victories and 17 class wins......amazing!!

( Some are real, some are not:-)) )

Used a Lee 0.9 hard grad and a big stopper

(Cut to stage left where Caly and Levi use their weapons to kill the two guards in the wings, and Caly spots Sienna, Mateo, and Ronan on the opposite side of the stage.)

Levi: They've made Trajan a lifevessel?

Caly: I guess he's bigger on the inside, now.

(Caly gives Levi a smile and a shrug before leaping off the stage and dashing down the length of the remaining queue in front of Lilitus, her right hand brushing the skin of each human as she passes, skipping Dyanna, and the people sway, each feeling a little lightheaded. She stops before Lilitus.)

Caly: Well, hello imperious impersonator.

Lilitus: (looking down at Caly) Tenet scum!

Caly: Now that we're acquainted--

(Caly leaps onto the edge of the stage, landing on her left hand and kicking out with both feet, hitting the heavy podium and sending it crashing into Lilitus, sending both skidding to the back of the stage.)

Mateo: Think that's the sign?

Sienna: Looks like a sign to me.

(Sienna, Mateo, and Ronan dash onto the ballroom floor from one side of the stage while Levi dashes out from the other side)

Levi: Ronan! Get the humans out! (pointing at the dizzy formal-attired humans, then starting to kill what remained of guards of those waiting to board)

(Cut to the back of the stage where Lilitus kicks the podium away like it was paper, facing off with Caly.)

Lilitus: I've consumed dozens of lives, tenet!

Caly: That explains the chin bloat.

Lilitus: (drawing a different sort of weapon than Caly held) Die, traitor!

(Caly performs a quick backflip as Lilitus fires, the beam passing over her, scoring the carpet. Caly glances at the burn pattern where she'd been a moment before.)

Caly: Okay, lesson learned. I shouldn't body shame.

(to be continued)

Thank you to the cast!

The Little Neighbor of the Olive Tree – First Encounters

Wildlife photography, for me, is about far more than capturing a beautiful image. It is about learning to wait patiently, respecting distance, and discovering how trust quietly takes root over time.

This album tells the silent story of my first two visits with a young Anatolian squirrel living among the olive trees.

With each encounter, I noticed a little less hesitation and a little more curiosity. The few walnuts I placed near the entrance of its nest were more than just food; perhaps they became a small invitation to explore the world beyond the familiar.

These photographs are not about taming a wild animal. They are a record of patiently waiting, respecting its space, and allowing it to decide, in its own time, whether to come a little closer.

I've captured some unforgettable moments with my camera, and I hope you feel the same joy viewing these images as I did while creating them.

Thank you for visiting my gallery whether you leave a comment, add a favorite, or simply take a quiet moment to look around. Your presence and support truly mean a lot to me. I wish you good luck and beautiful light in all your endeavors.

CN used to have two coal contracts in the early 2000s that were interchanged with the BNSF via Sioux City. The BNSF provided the power and the cars for the contracts. One contract was for unloading at Williams, IA, and the other was for unloading at East Dubuque, IL. The last East Dubuque train ran on 11-20-14. The Williams trains lasted a little longer but also ended. An empty coal train passing through Remsen, about 35 miles from the interchange at Sioux City.

There used to be icecaps on Mars. That was after Mars cooled and the flowing waters froze due to Climate Change. There were trees, too, on the Martian landscape, great tropical forests, before the CO2 levels got too high and the planet's temperature cooled. My photo shows the dust-blown dead trees on the Martian surface, doesn't it? It's natural sand patterns on the beach at Fascadale, Highlands, Scotland
