I use 2 adapters to fix the set : Nex-LTM and LTM-M39. The Industar is a 28mm lens, cropped to a 42mm. It's originally made for a halfframe camera, and with some lensbarrel adjustments for the depth of field, it can be used on a Leica-system. The lens has some vignetting and blurry-edges singularities. Not as sharp as a knife, but a great vintage look. Is this the ultimate digital Lomo? This gonna be my toy for the weekend.

Used Woman by Amy Enochs. Sculpture to raise awareness about sustainability related issues on campus and beyond.

I used a recently rebuilt Leica M4-2 (new MD-A innards and new shutter) with a Summicron 35mm f2 ASPH lens.

In that camera, I used a mix of films. For the most part, I shot the daytime pictures with Fuji Velvia 50 and Fuji Provia 100f; night, I used Lomography 400 print film.

The climate, why do I care ?

OSONS

Back in April 2015 I visitedMalahide castle and the weather was beautiful but it become so warm that the camera overheated and when I got home I discovered that many of the images were so underexposed that I could not use them. Today as I have different software and hardware available I decided to have a look again at the RAW files and this times the result was much better.

Malahide Castle, parts of which date to the 12th century, lies close to the village of Malahide, nine miles (14 km) north of central Dublin in Ireland. It has over 260 acres (1.1 km2) of remaining parkland estate, forming the Malahide Demesne Regional Park.

Malahide Castle and its demesne was eventually inherited by the 7th Baron Talbot and on his death in 1973, passed to his sister, Rose. In 1975, Rose sold the castle to the Irish State, partly to fund inheritance taxes. Many of the contents, notably furnishings, had been sold in advance, leading to considerable public controversy, but private and governmental parties were able to retrieve some.

The castle, along with its subsidiary attractions, was for many years operated as a tourist attraction by Dublin Tourism, working with Fingal County Council, which owns the whole demesne. The operating partner is now Shannon Heritage, which has in turn appointed subsidiary partners, most notably, for shop and café facilities, Avoca Handweavers.

The castle itself can be visited for a fee, on a guided-tour-only basis. In addition, it is possible to hire the famously Gothic Great Hall for private banquets. The castle's best-known rooms are the Oak Room, and the Great Hall, which displays Talbot family history. In the courtyard behind the castle are a café and craft shop, and other retail facilities.

The Talbot Botanic Gardens, situated behind the castle, comprising several hectares of plants and lawns, a walled garden of 1.6 hectares and seven glasshouses, including a Victorian conservatory. Many plants from the southern hemisphere, notably Chile and Australia, are featured. The gardens showcase the plant collecting passion of the 7th Lord Talbot de Malahide in the mid 20th Century.

The demesne is one of few surviving examples of 18th century landscaped parks, and has wide lawns surrounded by a protective belt of trees. It can be visited freely, with a number of entrances and car parking areas.

In addition to woodland walks, and a marked "exercise trail," the park features sports grounds, including a cricket pitch and several football pitches, a 9-hole par-3 golf course, an 18-hole pitch-and-putt course, tennis courts and a boules area.

Adjacent to the golfing facilities, and containing the access to them, is a pavilion which also contains a café and other facilities.

There is an extensive children's playground near the castle.

A seasonal road train operates in a loop from the vicinity of the castle to the railway station and back. A Malahide castle and coastal tour bus begins its journeys in Malahide Castle and continues to Howth, with two daily departures.

Organic composting in the western highlands of Panama using mostly coffee husks (Brosa de cafe') from local shade-grown organic coffee growers, rice husks, mulched banana head stems (gajo de guineo or platano); also, worm composting called vermiculture; all this a great way to save the environment from toxic wastes from cafe production that would normally go directly into the ground water to the river and then to the ocean mangroves regions; this way it is transformed back into very rich soil that goes back into the local farms to enhance their harvests without the very expensive and often toxic fertilizers.

Wistlandpound Reservoir, North Devon, UK.

Eurya used to be included in the theaceae (with Camellia, Stewartia, Schima etc etc) but molecular analysis found that it and a few other genera (Ternstroemia, Cleyera, Visnea etc), although still members of the same order (the ericales - which also includes the ericaceae) belong on another branch - now known as the pentaphylaceae.

Edited Curiosity PR image of a false color view of a flat rock in Gale Crater that has been dusted to see the surface of the rock (rather than the dust). Color/processing variant.

Original caption: This false-color image demonstrates how use of special filters available on the Mast Camera (Mastcam) of NASA's Curiosity Mars rover can reveal the presence of certain minerals in target rocks. It is a composite of images taken through three "science" filters chosen for making hematite, an iron-oxide mineral, stand out as exaggerated purple.

This target rock, called "Christmas Cove," lies in an area on Mars' "Vera Rubin Ridge" where Mastcam reconnaissance imaging (see PIA22065) with science filters suggested a patchy distribution of exposed hematite. Bright lines within the rocks are fractures filled with calcium sulfate minerals.

Christmas Cove did not appear to contain much hematite until the rover team conducted an experiment on this target: Curiosity's wire-bristled brush, the Dust Removal Tool, scrubbed the rock, and a close-up (see PIA22064) with the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) confirmed the brushing. The brushed area is about is about 2.5 inches (6 centimeters) across. The next day -- Sept. 17, 2017, on the mission's Sol 1819 -- this observation with Mastcam and others with the Chemistry and Camera (ChemCam) (see PIA22068) showed a strong hematite presence that had been subdued beneath the dust. The team is continuing to explore whether the patchiness in the reconnaissance imaging may result more from variations in the amount of dust cover rather than from variations in hematite content.

Curiosity's Mastcam combines two cameras: one with a telephoto lens and the other with a wider-angle lens. Each camera has a filter wheel that can be rotated in front of the lens for a choice of eight different filters. One filter for each camera is clear to all visible light, for regular full-color photos, and another is specifically for viewing the Sun. Some of the other filters were selected to admit wavelengths of light that are useful for identifying iron minerals.

Each of the filters used for this image admits light from a narrow band of wavelengths, extending to only about 5 nanometers longer or shorter than the filter's central wavelength. Three observations are combined for this image, each through one of the filters centered at 751 nanometers (in the near-infrared part of the spectrum just beyond red light), 527 nanometers (green) and 445 nanometers (blue).

Usual color photographs from digital cameras -- such as a Mastcam one of this same place (see PIA22067) -- also combine information from red, green and blue filtering, but the filters are in a microscopic grid in a "Bayer" filter array situated directly over the detector behind the lens, with wider bands of wavelengths. Mastcam's narrow-band filters used for this view help to increase spectral contrast, making blues bluer and reds redder, particularly with the processing used to boost contrast in each of the component images of this composite. Fine-grained hematite preferentially absorbs sunlight around in the green portion of the spectrum around 527 nanometers. That gives it the purple look from a combination of red and blue light reflected by the hematite and reaching the camera through the other two filters.

Malin Space Science Systems, San Diego, built and operates the Mastcam. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the Caltech in Pasadena, California, manages the Mars Science Laboratory Project for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington. JPL designed and built the project's Curiosity rover.

Used by knights in the middle ages.

Confession: I like mooses. Alot.

When I was like 6 or 7 my grandmother came to visit us in Maryland from North Dakota. She brought my brother and I gifts as most grandparents do for their grandchildren. I don't remember what she brought my brother but she brought me this stuffed mouse. It was cute and nice but mostly it was just a stupid mouse that I would throw in my closet with all other stuffed animals I didn't really care for. She was staying in my room and so her suitcase was in there. I saw this stuffed moose in there and instantly knew I HAD to have it. I asked her who it was for and she said she'd got one animal for me and one for my cousin April. I asked if I could trade and she said yes cause she's awesome like that. She handed it to me and said "Sure, you can have the cow!" And of course I had to jump in and say "Gramma, it's not a COW! It's a MOOSE!" So we argued back and forth over it for a while and it became "Cow-Moose," which drove my parents crazy because there's no such thing as a Cow-Moose.

I proved them wrong this year after seeing a documentary on Animal Planet about mooses and finding out that a female moose is indeed called a Cow Moose. HA!

Ever since then I've been obsessed with mooses collecting anything and everything with a moose on it. I've got pencils, socks, stickers, teeshirts, figurines, keychains, necklaces - if it's got a moose on it, I own it. My family thinks it's weird because it's not a 'normal' cute animal that most people collect like tigers or panda bears.

My favourite thing about Christmas is getting a new moose (or 4). Christmas isn't allowed to end until I've unwrapped at least one.

Poe is a moose my mom bought for me that somehow became my favourite. I used to carry him everywhere, and I still sleep with him.

And I know the plural for more than one moose is still moose. Mooses just sounds better.

Do you guys think I'm crazy now?

I was going to write about my whole emergency room ordeal but I want to keep this entry kind of happy. I'm doing so much better now, the naproxen is killing my stomach but the pain in my ribcage has almost gone away completely. Maybe I'll make another entry later or tomorrow. Thanks everyone for all your support and comments and mails and stuff, I really appreciate it so much! <3

English

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant native to the Americas. It possesses a large inflorescence (flowering head). The sunflower is named after its huge, fiery blooms, whose shape and image are often used to depict the sun. It has a rough, hairy stem, broad, coarsely toothed, rough leaves and circular heads of flowers. The heads consist of many individual flowers which mature into seeds, often in the hundreds, on a receptacle base. From the Americas, sunflower seeds were brought to Europe in the 16th century, where, along with sunflower oil, they became a widespread cooking ingredient. Leaves of the sunflower can be used as cattle feed, while the stems contain a fibre which may be used in paper production.

Description

Head displaying florets in spirals of 34 and 55 around the outside

What is usually called the "flower" on a mature sunflower is actually a "flower head" (also known as a "composite flower") of numerous florets (small flowers) crowded together. The outer petal-bearing florets are the sterile florets and can be yellow, red, orange, or other colors. The florets inside the circular head are called disc florets, which mature into seeds.

The flower petals within the sunflower's cluster are always in a spiral pattern. Generally, each floret is oriented toward the next by approximately the golden angle, 137.5°, producing a pattern of interconnecting spirals, where the number of left spirals and the number of right spirals are successive Fibonacci numbers. Typically, there are 34 spirals in one direction and 55 in the other; on a very large sunflower there could be 89 in one direction and 144 in the other. This pattern produces the most efficient packing of seeds within the flower head.

Sunflowers commonly grow to heights between 1.5 and 3.5 m (5–12 ft.). The tallest sunflower confirmed by Guinness World Records is 8.0 m (2009, Germany). In 16th century Europe the record was already 7.3 m (24 ft., Spain). Most cultivars are variants of H. annuus, but four other species (all perennials) are also domesticated. This includes H. tuberosus, the Jerusalem Artichoke, which produces edible tubers.

Heliotropism misconception

Flowerheads facing East, away from the Sun. Late afternoon, Sun is in the West.

A common misconception is that sunflower heads track the Sun across the sky. This old and chronic misconception was debunked already in 1597 by the English botanist John Gerard, who grew sunflowers in his famous herbal garden: "[some] have reported it to turn with the Sun, the which I could never observe, although I have endeavored to find out the truth of it." The uniform alignment of sunflower heads in a field might give some people the false impression that they are tracking the sun, but the heads are actually pointing in a fixed direction (east) all day long. However, the uniform alignment does result from heliotropism in an earlier development stage, the bud stage, before the appearance of flower heads (anthesis). The buds are heliotropic until the end of the bud stage, and finally face east. Their heliotropic motion is a circadian rhythm, synchronized by the sun, which continues if the sun disappears on cloudy days. If a sunflower plant in the bud stage is rotated 180°, the bud will be turning away from the sun for a few days, as resynchronization by the sun takes time. The heliotropic motion of the bud is performed by the pulvinus, a flexible segment just below the bud, due to reversible changes in turgor pressure (no growth).

History

The evidence thus far is that the sunflower was first domesticated in what is now the Southeastern US, roughly 5000 years ago. and possibly introduced into Mexico at an early date, as other crops such as maize were exchanged. The earliest known examples of a fully domesticated sunflower have been found in Tennessee, and date to around 2300 BC[citation needed]. Many indigenous American peoples used the sunflower as the symbol of their solar deity, including the Aztecs and the Otomi of Mexico and the Incas in South America. In 1510 early Spanish explorers encountered the sunflower in the Americas and carried its seeds back to Europe. Of the four plants known to have been domesticated in what is now the continental United States to have become an important agricultural commodity, sunflower is currently the most economically important.

During the 18th century, the use of sunflower oil became very popular in Russia, particularly with members of the Russian Orthodox Church, because sunflower oil was one of the few oils that was allowed during Lent, according to some fasting traditions.

Used a bit more thread to secure the hair inside the scalp (I'm still surprised it is supposed to look like that, haha)!

Mum and Dad Shanhun's 40th wedding anniversary was just a few days after Edward was born.We all went out for Dinner at Blue Water Grill on the day - the 12th of May, 2013. We always enjoy eating there and it was on our shortlist of wedding reception venues when we got married, but it ended up being too small. We all enjoyed a lovely dinner, dessert and coffee. Dad presented Mum with a new engagement ring (herâs had been lost many years earlier). A solitaire diamond in gold - we all approved! Such a special gift.I really loved this photo of our family that was taken on the night.

Using flickr's filters yay. Leaving for a family trip over the weekend. Kai gets left behind. She's pretty upset and is already resenting me for leaving her. She's a very emotional dog.

Just close your eyes, say 'It's a Tug' twenty times and hey presto..... it's still a Voyager. Oh well.

Having left Northwich after photting 60040 on 6F05, the next move was to Arpley, hopefully to catch 60071 on 6F28. Well Tug and train of HTA's were there, sitting waiting for the road up the slope and onto the WCML. So, I figured I could beat it to Winwick, especially as it wasn't due off for the best part of an hour. But, despite waiting well over two hours it was a no show. I can only assume that 6F28 ran via Ditton.

So instead of a dramatic pic of UG71, here's 221101 on a Birmingham-Edinburgh run. Taken 14 August 2011. Nice.
