For a friend who makes me smile.
A shutdown is never a good answer, is it.
I only wish I could take good bird shots; but I was wading in the warm, shallow water trying to take pictures at the same time -
Milwaukee Road 113A is having an uplifting experience after hitting the ditch on the Ellie Sub. The Bucyrus Erie 250 ton MILW X18 was called to the incident to get the F7 back on track.
The X18 is a 1/29th scale scratch-built, functioning big hook. Building the X18 was pretty easy, adding the cables, well that's a whole other story.

Race cancelled shortly thereafter due to hazardous river conditions.
I learned how to make cool lemon twists for this image, so I can use this skill for my next cocktail party!
I find these amazingly complex little flowers a stunning and delightful intrigue along the wooded paths at Codnor Park Reservoir.
I think it's a mixture of interest in the complexity of the flower, the symmetry that exists and it's jaw dropping beauty.
Every one a gift! :-)
I've been out for the week with the Google Pixel 6 Pro. It got cold, it got wet, it got dropped... it kept on working. When you didn't have a camera with you a few years ago, you didn't have a camera. Now you often do. Check your pockets... Camera phones are becoming ever greater with their technology and their adaptability is beyond doubt. How I adore the primal sense of joy created from pulling a phone from my pocket and photographing what is right there in front of me in the moment. Don't get me wrong, the frame well-planned also brings untold delights when things come together, but this isn't always an option and you know it. Here is a shot in the driving snow, taken half way down an Alpine mountain slope. The thrill people were getting headed into the middle of a snowstorm at 3000m altitude is probably indescribable until you try it yourself. Here is the snowy fairground ride, headed up again through the whiteout giving its people a chance for another run. I haven't been skiing in over 20 years, but I think I'll be visiting again very soon with an even better sensor in my bag... better start looking into extreme camera insurance!
This image was taken as a jpeg and .dng using Google's RAW file system. I then used Lightroom's enhance feature to make the file slightly larger in pixel dimensions and then kept it as honest and high key as I saw it on the day. To compare it with other digital DSLR / Mirrorless tools is unfair, but wow how much things have improved in the camera phone market! I hope you enjoy seeing the scene as much as I did scoping it out on my skis and photographing it in the freezing cold conditions.
The slow uplift of the Colorado Plateau created one of Nature's wonders...the Grand Canyon. But it also created many lesser gems along the numerous desert streams and washes that are scattered throughout. This oxbow was deep in the backcountry of the Plateau, making the time spent overnight with the deep silence & the darkest of skies a real treat.

The valley floor is at around 3400m altitude, the summits above 5000m. Sharp edges, dramatic exposed strata - India is pushing hard into Asia: 'The Himalayan range is one of the youngest mountain ranges on the planet and consists mostly of uplifted sedimentary and metamorphic rock. . . . Its formation is a result of a continental collision or orogeny along the convergent boundary between the Indo-Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate. . . . The Indian plate is still moving at 67 mm per year, and over the next 10 million years it will travel about 1500 km into Asia.' (Wikipedia)
According to the USGS, the Himalaya are still growing, at a rate of about 1cm per year.
What a perfect way to end my July creativity challenge, with an image signifying how strong the hands have been that have lifted me up. Thank you for showing such incredible support this gorgeous July. I highly recommend that you watch the video for today, as it really sums up my feelings toward my month of creativity.

In short, it was transformative. It seemed like there was always an orange sunrise or a rainbow around the corner when the day was difficult. I always managed to bring a positive attitude when things weren't going my way. 4am never looked so good. Content aside, it has been one of the best months of my life. Content considered, I don't know yet which pieces were keepers and which I'll cringe at in another month, but it's there now and it wasn't before. That is really something.
The 15 Day Content Creation Challenge closes registration doors today at 5pm PST. 40% goes to charity, and you pay only what you can. Join me and the over 500 participants this August as you challenge your own creativity and create content that you're proud of.
Foreground rocks, at the outflow of the Annat Burn, still lightly covered with the night's fall of snow, cool blue in the shadows; across Loch Rannoch, the sun rises in a blast of gold behind the iconic triangular shape of Schiehallion.

I love how the branches of these trees curl upwards. I was hoping for more snow on them but I like the suggestion of snow on some of the branches

Image of mine are you just a myth?
Aiming for the stars and a need to exist
Singing your life to its final bar,
Staging all the scenes to avoid who you are.
Idol of mine will you lead me on?
Build for me the dreams that I'm longing to own.
Make me secure - be my fallacy.
You are all my world if for only today.
