I covered these cans with air drying clay. Before I colored the clay with food color (nothing else was at home). After drying, I embellished them with gold foil (metal, not real gold:-)). Finish was a matt clear coat.

Voila - the upcycled flower vases

For Smile on Saturday - "vases and flower pots"

this used to be a cigarette lighter. but now it has been re-purposed: a light conduit in my arsenal of props....you will be seeing corners and bits of it in my "catching rainbow" images.

For 120 pictures in 2020 #111 "Upcycled", This garden ornament is made from recycled scrap metal. It is fairly old and in desperate need of repainting, but it still stands ready to remove garden pests from our plants (this is an aloe vera our neighbor gave us - still need to make a proper garden plot for it).

When my daughter first asked me to find a large cable drum so that she and her fiance could make a beer bottle top table I thought it a slightly ambitious idea. After all, no way was I going to drink enough beer to cover the top of the table. But fortunately I knew someone who could, and being a great environmentalist, he had saved all his bottle tops, all six million, seven hundred and eighty five thousand of them. Nah, just joking. But probably a couple of thousand. Now the beer bottle tops have been set in sparkly black tile grout, and a smooth hard layer of resin has been added, it looks fantastic

TRÆ is a new office building at Sydhavnen in Aarhus. It is Denmark's tallest wooden house with its 78 meters and 20 floors...WOOD is - in addition to wood - built in concrete and glass, and many of the materials are reused or upcycled - such as discarded wind turbine blades that are used on the facade. In addition, we recycle facade panels, bricks, wood, double glazing and other materials.

The theme for this week is Wabi-sabi. A Japanese term for beauty in imperfection and impermanence, especially in the natural world (as I understand it).

This is the remains of a bicycle that was once abandoned in the woods. The tree grew around it, enveloping the mechanism. Unfortunately, the rest of the bike recently vanished, leaving only the crankset.

Smart move, momma bird!

This Ruddy Ground-Dove (Columbina talpacoti), a very common bird in Suriname, made her nest in a comfy old sneaker.

Smile on Saturday! :-)

it started 2007 with the art project of my friends "Gastplätze" www.maboart.ch/archiv/Doku_gem/gastplatz.htm and ended 2020 with shoppers and bags, my friend made out of the panels.

Something My Mom made back in the early 1960’s and which I’ve had ever since I was born…..

He’s stood the test of time rather well…the only thing he’s missing is the pom pom on his right foot.

I think he’s probably in better shape than I am for being only slightly older :)

As the Flaneur With A Camera stood composing this photograph, made with a Leica M5 and 50mm Summicron and Ilford Delta 400 film, the words of John Lennon spun unexpectedly through is mind, "...I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round

I really love to watch them roll

No longer riding on the merry-go-round

I just had to let it go..."

Once horrific gold mirror (Ive had for oh, about 10 yrs) is now a lovely shade of matte grey..

Are inspired by the selkie folklore, shape-shifting beings and their transformative powers.

In order to shapeshift they had to cast off their sealskins. Within these magical skins lay the transformative power to return to seal form, and therefore to the sea.

And as much of the transformative power lies in the Selkie's coat, there is transformative power in the process of creating selkie costumes by animating pre-loved and discarded textiles from a two-dimensional flat surface into a three-dimensional object.

I made some fun baby blankets from vintage bed spread and bed linens. The colors were just so much fun!

Responding to the central idea of their unit of inquiry: 'living things cannot survive if we do not take action', the children wanted to re-use waste and natural materials in their explorations in the atelier. They explored different ways to re-use waste paper from the school office to make "marbol paper" (through the marbling process) and using pigment inks. They also decided to make the following out of clay, wire, beads and twigs from the garden:

"a necklis"

"a bralislet"

and a "tree for (hanging your glasses and) gelri" (jewellery) on..

Cleaning out the closets can be fruitful, not only selling things on Ebay but repurposing. I never cared for this dress as a swing-sundress, but with a few alterations, I love it as a wiggle dress,

Another of the upcycled creations of Donald. It's a model chainsaw using a piece of original 'Oregon' chain and all sorts of other bits of steel from the scrap-heap!

This is in serious contention for the Upcyled World Cup so there is a strong chance Donald will win back his own creation!

ANSH 103 (4) upcycled

A bag made by a student at the university using old clothing and other materials. I think it's the only upcycled thing I own.

I have shown this project here on Flickr before, but am just blogging it now :)
