I covered these cans with air drying clay. Before I colored the clay with food color (nothing else was at home). After drying, I embellished them with gold foil (metal, not real gold:-)). Finish was a matt clear coat.
Voila - the upcycled flower vases

this used to be a cigarette lighter. but now it has been re-purposed: a light conduit in my arsenal of props....you will be seeing corners and bits of it in my "catching rainbow" images.
For 120 pictures in 2020 #111 "Upcycled", This garden ornament is made from recycled scrap metal. It is fairly old and in desperate need of repainting, but it still stands ready to remove garden pests from our plants (this is an aloe vera our neighbor gave us - still need to make a proper garden plot for it).
The theme for this week is Wabi-sabi. A Japanese term for beauty in imperfection and impermanence, especially in the natural world (as I understand it).
This is the remains of a bicycle that was once abandoned in the woods. The tree grew around it, enveloping the mechanism. Unfortunately, the rest of the bike recently vanished, leaving only the crankset.
A 2nd hand jacket that I have customised with bits of fabric and yarn, and finished off with my own handmade buttons.

Something My Mom made back in the early 1960’s and which I’ve had ever since I was born…..
He’s stood the test of time rather well…the only thing he’s missing is the pom pom on his right foot.
I think he’s probably in better shape than I am for being only slightly older :)
As the Flaneur With A Camera stood composing this photograph, made with a Leica M5 and 50mm Summicron and Ilford Delta 400 film, the words of John Lennon spun unexpectedly through is mind, "...I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go..."

Are inspired by the selkie folklore, shape-shifting beings and their transformative powers.
In order to shapeshift they had to cast off their sealskins. Within these magical skins lay the transformative power to return to seal form, and therefore to the sea.
And as much of the transformative power lies in the Selkie's coat, there is transformative power in the process of creating selkie costumes by animating pre-loved and discarded textiles from a two-dimensional flat surface into a three-dimensional object.

....the conversion of a stable block of an old mansion (long since demolished and built on) makes for an unique home in the city of Bristol.
I made some fun baby blankets from vintage bed spread and bed linens. The colors were just so much fun!
This newspaper hat proves that a joyful costume can be made out of anything. Instead of throwing away the egg carton, newspaper, and artificial flowers, one can make herself a Sunday hat!

Cleaning out the closets can be fruitful, not only selling things on Ebay but repurposing. I never cared for this dress as a swing-sundress, but with a few alterations, I love it as a wiggle dress,
Another of the upcycled creations of Donald. It's a model chainsaw using a piece of original 'Oregon' chain and all sorts of other bits of steel from the scrap-heap!
This is in serious contention for the Upcyled World Cup so there is a strong chance Donald will win back his own creation!
ANSH 103 (4) upcycled
A bag made by a student at the university using old clothing and other materials. I think it's the only upcycled thing I own.
