Acey Amapola Tompkins died, the day after Thanksgiving, 2010, on these sheets, faded, much mended, and ready for upcycling.

Upcycling is one key to the new economy, and this year my creative project is going to be to figure out something beautiful and useful for these old sheets.

And the winner is Vintage Chica's crocheted rag rug.

Things made from discarded materials. Balaklava Show

This dress had two bleach stains on the chest. Because of its material and simplicity, it seemed to be the perfect candidate to my Wear a Garden Project, where I propose to hand embroider pieces of clothing, which may or may not have something to hide, giving them a new look and extending their lives.

In this case, I wanted to keep the dress's lightness, but still have fun in the process. I knew I had to play either with the embroidery size or with its color. I chose to use only two neutral and discrete shades, but still make a relatively large plant. The result is a new dress, much more custom made and unique.

These are window treatments like no other. Sustainable Stylish and Multifunctional. Upcycled Custom curtains made from vintage one of a kind 35mm film slides.

Every slide is housed with a new hard plastic white mount that attractively displays each image and compliments any rooms decor. Each slide is connected with eight metal rings making them very durable yet flexible like chain-mail , easily opened and closed like real curtains. The slides were meticulously sorted and put in order by color theme from pink at the top, followed by red, orange ,yellow, green, blue, and purple.

All the 35mm slides are original photographic images from the the past 50+ years from various amateur photographers around the world and the subject matters are as diverse as the planet itself.

By night the slides are visible from outside when the interior lights are illuminated acting as a privacy window for you.

The curtains are 5ft 7in tall by 6ft wide and consist of 36 curtain rings, 1,152 vintage film slides and 1,152 slide mounts and almost 7,000 silver tone rings and took a total of 4 months to make.

SOLD. 100% Upcycled.

A neighbor across the street had lived in Japan and was selling all her belongings in a garage sale. She was off to teach in Africa. I got some pretty things from her, among them a narrow and long bag which she said was used to do grocery shopping in Japan. I loved the thick, sturdy fabric but the bag was too narrow for my taste and the straps were falling apart so I deconstructed it and pulled some other things from my to-be-repurpused bin and I came up with this bag.

The Japanese fabric is very thick and looks woven. It creates this tan and cinnamon checkered pattern which I complemented with some straps made out of cinnamon colored fabric from a rescued dress. The bag has been lined with what used to be a skirt. The lining is light yellow/straw with printed small flowers and leaves in brown, white and olive green. The bag has three inside pockets and a narrow opening for pens, pencils, etc.

I bordered the top edge of the bag with some Spanish lace that I have had for YEARS and it originally came from my mother's craft closet. She had it herself for many YEARS. I believe when she was young this material was used to edge or to piece together parts of tablecloths. It is VINTAGE!

On the front, I put an appliqué of embroidery that came from one of my first embroidery projects as a teenager a long time ago. It was a vest that I worked hard on but then I ruined while ironing it. I had rescued the embroidered part of the vest and I finally found how to use some of it.

The inside pockets come from parts of tan and beige pants, with their original belt straps.

The stitching throughout the bag is olive green to give it a rustic feel.

A group of ladies at work bought this bag for Marge on her birthday. Thanks!

Made from old tee shirts and fabric scraps, I made first this outfit and then another as a baby gift.

The bottom of the vase was made from a A & W root beer bottle, the top comes from a sprite bottle. The flowers are made from hand colored recycled plastic. Each flower has a bead in the center. The bottle was sown together with a bit of dmc variegated thread. This is a view from the front

a little goo-gone, spray paint, and a cheap drawer pull.

Got the idea from Pinterest!

www.recyclart.org/2016/05/upcycled-meat-mincer-lamps/

The first one I found was in a small secondhand shop in my neighborhood. It was love at first sight. At first, I didn't know what to do with it, but I had to buy it. At home, I cleaned it, cut and sawed the mincing part out, and squeezed a little lamp into it. When I put it on, the result was surprising. The roster on the front of the mincer spreads the light out great! So I decided to find more mincers and make more, with several (big and small) meat mincers lamps as a result.
