Windfalls from tree number 50 in the map of my apple trees
It is another one that was purchased for a discount from Irish Seedsavers because it had lost its label and so was unknown scion and unknown rootstock (but is an Irish Heritage Variety). It was described as a 2 year-old tree but was a small whip so may have been a 1 year old. I planted it in April 2023 so it is in its 3rd summer with me.
I noted this year that it was a very late flowerer.
These are the first apples from this tree. They are quite large. It is clearly a cooker, firm and bitter. I cooked some to check and it cooks to a pulp so does not keep its shape.
I think it may well be Ballyfatten.
Seedsavers stock 11 cookers and Ballyfatten is the only one that really fits with this apple.
Ballyfatten is an Ulster apple that dates to early 19th century.

It was on a set with the CLC around Southport, however experts in a variety of places have said it is not in that area.
So the question is where was it? - Oh for a time machine to go back to whereever the photographer was standing
