Mirit Ben-Nun is a unique Israeli painter whose works showcase a rich inner world that blends color, shape and emotion. Mirit was born and raised in Israel, and art has been a part of her life since a young age. Certainly not a unique pose, but I really like this shot -- especially because the bride and groom "got it" when I told them to "almost" kiss, rather than lip or tongue lock ... like so many other couples do. The KEY to getting this photo right is getting them to let me capture the moment BEFORE the kiss as they blissfully close their eyes. You want to capture the "anticipation" of the moment they kiss, rather than the kiss itself. The whole idea is to get the couple to act as if the photographer isn't there. It should seem like it's just THEIR moment ... which just "happens" to be caught on camera. About all I did in post was to add some diffuse glow to the skin tones.
As for lighting, we took this shot within minutes of the sun setting and faced them towards the remaining light in the sky, or as I call it, God's Huge Softbox. You get great soft light and warm skin tones in that light. And you only get that light for about 15 minutes during sunset. BTW, if you do this shot, do it with the bride on the left and the groom on the right. That way you get her ring and his boutonnière.
Oh, and it really helps to have a good looking couple. Especially a bride with a gorgeous neck and chin line. =)

Before the 6823 was reborn into an SD50, it was this U28C,(nee PC 6823), and sported a bold CR like no other. Here we see it kicking up a morning dusting of snow as it rolls west through Onieda, NY
This rear three-quarters view of Greenfield Village Locomotive No.3 departing from Firestone Stations shows the unusual 0-6-4 arrangement of the Mason Bogie type. Mason Locomotive Works of Taunton MA gained a licence to produce Single Fairlie patent locomotives: these featured an articulated design of a power bogie beneath the single boiler, with an unpowered bogie under the cab and tender. The design found favour with mining and logging railroads, with their preponderance of sharp curves. Mason built 146 bogie locomotives, but No.3 is now the sole survivor.
The Story of my Toby's birth, is one of the most unique animal stories, for me. Not just because of what had happend that morning, but rather for the rarest of times... We actually have an eye witness and an official Birth Date. (Which is not common enough in the life of a beloved pet)
March 26th 2014 my little tuxedo wearing, agent007-assassin cat came to be. That morning we were in the midst of yet another Snow storm. And it was a heavy snow and sleek with slightly below temperatures.
A dear sweet woman named Sheila (a mother of a friend) had been a long time caretaker of a group of wild and feral cats. She lived on the edge of a large forest field, where the cats would roam and hunt. And true enough to her love to these felines... She would feed them in hardtimes and even name them. Despite their fear of humans, they would hang around the edges of her yard. And came to know her well enough that they felt safe if she alone was outdoors.
One day Sheila heard a strange sound at her back door. As she walked upto it, she realized it was one of the youngest cats (barely out of kittenhood herself). With layers of snow on her and wet and cold, she stood right upto the door. Sheila wondered why this young cat who was always so timid and shy, had the courage to be at her back door. Until she looked closer and realized... she was holding a newly born kitten in her mouth.
Ofcourse she was shocked to say the least, so she opened the door in the hopes this frightened cat would come in. And she did!!!! This scared wild young cat somehow KNEW she had to do the impossible to save her kitten!. So she walked in and as Sheila search to get a warm blanket. This wet and confused cat placed her kitten down just feets away from the door, and slightly colapsed by it's side. All while a hyper but most friendly dog (Sheila's dog) was dancing around her with joy and happiness to her arrival. Yet she didn't have any energy or strength to react to her fears.
And then it happend...
As Sheila was putting down the covers for the kitten and her mother. Right there and right then...... Ladies and Gents...... My Toby was BORN!!
The young mother cat who saved her kitten by going into a strange and scary place. Had given birth to a little tuxedo wearing, agent 007-assassin cat, who would be know by all, in the near future as (my love) Sir Toby! :)
If this story isn't dramatic enough... here are a few quick added notes about this miracle..
1-The dog (bella) was the one to lick clean off the Vernix and cords of both kittens ( The oily white fluid bag rapped around the kittens) And Bella was the official babysitter. She would clean them, check up on them, and sleep by them. The mother cat would only come in several times a day to nurse her kids. But had no part in raising them, because she didn't want to stay indoors long enough.
2- Toby was the 3rd of this cat litter. Sadly Sheila found the remains of a new born kitten a short while after. We believe the storm was so bad and it was so cold the little kitten could'nt survive the storm. Which lead the mother to take her second born and find a safer place. Or she knew she was going to loose all her kittens.
Again I asked how a barely old enough WILD cat (appx 1year old and a few months) would have known what she had to do to save her kittens. And then to let a dog take care of them without hissing or fighting... Thats unheard of!!
3- Finally... I was actually there and witnessed Mother Cat coming to the door with a still ALIVE mouse she caught in her mouth. And wanted to show her (WAY TOO YOUNG) newly born kittens how to eat theses. Which shows you how young the mother was and inexperienced as a mother. Because the kittens were too young to see clearly yet, let alone eat solid foods.!! :-)
I don't need to tell you that was the only time Sheila didn't let the mother in the house. NO mouses ALLOWED!!! LOL :D
So this is the beginnings of my Toby's story. There is a second part to this, which leads upto how I ended up with my precious-beloved-adored- agent007-assassin... Sir Toby!

His Mother truly saved him... And I will always be so amazed AND thankful for that!!! :-)) xx

The road network of Madagascar, comprising about 4,500 unique roads spanning 31,640 kilometers (19,660 mi), is designed primarily to facilitate transportation to and from Antananarivo, the Malagasy capital. Transportation on these roads, most of which are unpaved and two lanes wide, is often dangerous. Few Malagasy own private vehicles; long-distance travel is often accomplished in taxi brousses ('bush taxis') which may be shared by 20 or more people.
While most primary roads are in good condition, the World Food Programme has classified nearly two-thirds of the overall road network as being in poor condition. These conditions may make it dangerous to drive at moderate-to-high speeds and dahalo (bandit) attacks pose a threat at low speeds. Many roads are impassable during Madagascar's wet season; some bridges (often narrow, one-lane structures) are vulnerable to being swept away. Few rural Malagasy live near a road in good condition; poor road connectivity may pose challenges in health care, agriculture, and education.
Drivers in Madagascar travel on the right side of the road. On some roads, to deter attacks from dahalo, the government of Madagascar requires that drivers travel in convoys of at least ten vehicles. Car collision fatalities are not fully reported, but the rate is estimated to be among the highest in the world. Random police checkpoints, at which travelers are required to produce identity documents, are spread throughout the country. Crops are transported by ox cart locally and by truck inter-regionally. Human-powered vehicles, once the only means of road transport, are still found in the form of pousse-pousses (rickshaws). Taxi brousses constitute a rudimentary road-based public transportation system in Madagascar. Rides on taxi brousses cost as little as 200 Malagasy ariary (roughly US$0.10) as of 2005, and vehicles involved are often overpacked, sometimes with the assistant driver riding on the outside of the vehicle. Stops on their routes are generally not fixed, allowing passengers to exit at arbitrary points.

The myth of Dutch Light. Joseph Beuys postulated his theory in the late 1970s. He said that the light for which Holland was famous had lost its unique radiance, thereby acknowledging not only that it had disappeared, but that it had actually existed in the first place. The idea was astonishing. Beuys put it down to land reclamation in the Zuyder Zee in the mid-1950s [after which the Zuyder Zee was called the IJsselmeer]. And that, he maintained, marked the end of a visual culture dating back to the 17th century. Beuys described the Zuyder Zee as a vast mirror of light, calling it the eye of Holland. And he concluded that by draining it to create polders, the Dutch had ended up blinding themselves.
I snapped this picture early in the morning in a field in the central area of Mallorca. I edited out a couple of small bushes to accentuate the tree´s isolation in that field.

New and unique view of Jersey City from New York's newest attraction the One World Observatory on 100th floor of One World Trade Center. It was tough to find the spot with so many people sitting by the glass, firing cell phone flash walking around. Thanks to the engineering marvel that this window shot with camera resting on ground produced nice and sharp image with 8 sec exposure. Hope you will like it. – via 500px ift.tt/1QKhR6F

one shot i took awhile back. these clouds were formed after a heavy monsoon rain. it's too bad as well that the pollution was trapped just on the horizon. at least, that guy in the toothpaste ad looks happy... have a great weekend, my friends.
don't really remember what i did here. i think it must be a 3 ex hdr then further processed in photoshop. or was it manually blended from 3 exposures... or was it delivered to me by the easter bunny... could be the tooth fairy... hmmmm...
Friday evening just after sunset this rather unique manifestation of the Belt of Venus and Earth Shadow appeared in the eastern sky for a very few minutes.
This three-pane panoramic image covers a uniquely beautiful part of the constellation Scorpius from the Cat’s Paw and War and Peace nebulae to the beautiful Ptolemy Star Cluster. This part of the night sky covers roughly 9 x 5 degrees, for reference the full moon is about half a degree in width.
The glowing red nebulae in this area to the right are is the aptly named Cat's Paw Nebula and the War and Peace Nebula. The Cat's Paw Nebula, an emission nebula and active star forming area located about 5,500 light years distant and bears a striking resemblance to a cat’s paw. The War and Peace Nebula also called the Lobster Nebula is also an emission nebula that contains proto-stars forming in the clouds of gas and dust that lie within this area. Also, in the War in Peace Nebula is the open cluster Pismis 24 which contains some of the more massive stars known, some of them approaching 100x the mass of our Sun.
As you move to the left in this image you'll notice the bright clouds of the Milky Way and dark dust lanes that are highlighted by two bright blueish stars at the bottom Shaula on the left and Lesath to the right, Shaula the second brightest star in the constellation Scorpius is relatively close to Earth and very bright at about 10,000 times the luminosity of the Sun which is why it shines at a 1.62 magnitude in our night sky. As you move further to the left there are two orange/yellow points of light, one is the star HR 6630 a close star to our solar system at around 126 light years away, and to the left of it is a much farther away Globular Cluster NGC6441 which is about 38,000 light years away!
Then finally once you head up to the top left of this image the very beautiful Ptolemy cluster shines with stars blue and golden in color. This open star cluster is visible to the naked eye and gets its name from Ptolemy who mentioned it around 130 AD when he described it as a, 'little cloud following the stinger of Scorpius.' The Ptolemy Cluster is about 1.3 degrees across in our night sky and has an actual diameter of 18-25 light years. It contains about 80 stars and being only 800-1000 light years distant they appear very bright in our night sky.

Unique, rare, or otherwise odd leaders can be found on any train on any railroad, really, but there are few times when something special appears on the last of the roadrailers. NS256 is one of only two surviving roadrailer trains, and it is almost always headed by NS AC44C6M rebuilds, however this time we got something a bit special. The BNSF Fakebonnet 751 took the charge of the eastbound roadrailer, which was a real treat. With the longevity of these two roadrailer trains heavily in question these days, getting a fun leader like this made for a nice change of pace. The faded red and purple henbit in a field near Sidney are a nice change of the usual black and white of the NS-led Triple Crowns. A fine treat for sure.

So I went down to OWS the other day with the express intention of taking pictures for the Strang.ers Occupy Wall Street story. Unfortch, shooting protests just aint my thing. I barely shot half a roll of film. It wasnt that I wasnt motivated, it was the sheer preponderance of cameras, the uncomfortable crowding, and the fact that I am sort of sucky at photography. Anyways, what follows is about the only shots that werent total garbage. Regardless, I had an amazing time and believe strongly in the movement.

A trick shot using a Nikon D40x with nikkor 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 kit lens.
Unique sooty-gray bird with odd yellow tufts of feathers at the base of each leg. Darker black on head and wings. Rather hefty and long-tailed with sizable conical bill. Typically found close to the ground, working through low tangles and bushes in pairs or small groups. Prefers forest and edges. Sexes alike; juveniles lack yellow but overall color diagnostic (and usually in group with adults).

I have a lot planned for the upcoming days in Lisbon, photographically speaking. I will take my new Nikon d90 with me with two new lenses, my sister's Minolta x700 with a normal and an expired film and the Diana Mini (which I have used in Istria and Venice - photos will be up in the future). Planning too much I guess but I am starting to take this quite seriously ;)
