The wonderfully unique Plains Turkey! These quirky birds are one of Australia's largest at up to 1.2m tall & a very impressive 2.3m wingspan - they also boast the title of Australia's largest flying land bird!
This is a large male in full breeding display. During breeding season (once a year), the male will clear a display area & strut around with their tails cocked high. They will periodically inflate a large throat sac, producing a loud, deep roaring noise. Amazing to witness!
Unique use for logs from a recently downed tree. When I think of a log fence I normally think of the logs being horizontal not like this. Orem, Utah.

The unique, surreal, stunning, incredible landscape of Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon on the south coast of Iceland. Part of the locations charm is every day is unique, and on this day I shot a duck, a blue marlin-like block and this giant snail of a block.

Here in the heart of Rapid City, a unique place exists; a functioning alley that hums with the urban street sounds of delivery and garbage trucks and a backbeat of shaking spray paint cans. The walls feature truly unique works of art, personal and political expressions about community and global issues. It has a fickle nature and is constantly changing, sometimes, many times a day. It has become a sacred place for many - artists, locals and tourists. It is a place where you can get lost in the art - and also found. Art Alley, located between 6th and 7th, and Main and Saint Joseph Streets in Rapid City, emerged as an organic, community gallery in 2003. In the beginning artists hung largely canvas artworks on the walls, and over time, evolved to painting directly on the walls. A group of passionate artists and community members worked with city officials to nurture this organic art form, and Art Alley was born.

Rapid City (Lakota: Mni Lúzahaŋ Otȟúŋwahe; "Swift Water City") is the second most populous city in South Dakota and the county seat of Pennington County. Named after Rapid Creek, on which the city is established, it is set against the eastern slope of the Black Hills mountain range. The population was 67,956 as of the 2010 Census. Known as the "Gateway to the Black Hills" and the "City of Presidents", it is split by a low mountain ridge that divides the western and eastern parts of the city. Ellsworth Air Force Base is located on the outskirts of the city. Camp Rapid, a part of the South Dakota Army National Guard, is located in the western part of the city. The historic "Old West" town of Deadwood is nearby. In the neighboring Black Hills are the popular tourist attractions of Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park and the museum at the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research. Rapid City is located at 44.076188°N 103.228299°W. The downtown elevation of Rapid City is 3,202 feet (976 m) and Rapid City sits in the shadow of Black Elk Peak, which at 7,242 feet (2,207 m), is the highest point east of the Rocky Mountains. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 55.49 square miles (143.71 km2), of which 55.41 square miles (143.5 km2) is land and 0.08 square mile (0.2 km2) is water. Rapid City is located on the eastern edge of the Black Hills, and is split in half by the Dakota Hogback. Rapid City's "Westside" is located in the Red Valley between the foothills of the Black Hills proper and the Dakota Hogback, so named for the red Spearfish formation soils and the way the valley completely circles the Black Hills. Rapid City has grown up into the foothills, with both ridges and valleys developed, especially in the last 20 years, and wildfire is a distinct threat to these residential areas, as shown by the Westberry Trails fire in 1988. Skyline Drive follows the summits of the Dakota Hogback south from near Rapid Gap (where Rapid Creek cuts through the Hogback) to a large high plateau that forms the current south edge of Rapid City. The Central and Eastern portions of Rapid City lie in the wide valley of Rapid Creek outside the Hogback, which includes a number of mesas rising a hundred feet or more above the floodplain.

Phae Mueang Phi Forest Park is a beautiful natural attraction in Phrae Province of Thailand. Known for its unique rock formations, the park offers visitors the chance to explore a fascinating landscape steeped in cultural and geological significance. The name Phae Mueang Phi translates to City of Ghosts in Thai, reflecting the mystical atmosphere and eerie appearance of the park's rock formations. Also called hoodoos, these rock formations are the result of millions of years of erosion, leaving towering rock pillars that resemble ancient ruins or stone cities. The area has been inhabited by ethnic communities for centuries and remnants of ancient civilizations, such as ancient cave paintings, can be found in the park. These historical artifacts provide insight into the region's rich cultural heritage. The park is particularly beautiful during sunrise and sunset when the golden light illuminates the rocks and creates a magical atmosphere. There are beautiful viewpoints in the park and information boards with educational information about the geology, flora and fauna. The environment is serene and peaceful.
Phae Mueang Phi is a place of original rock formations in the Phi Pan Nam Range, Thailand. It is located about eight kilometers northeast of the city of Phrae in Phrae Province. The orange-brown area is full of many strange rock formations mushroom and anthill; depending on your imagination that were created more than two million years ago by eroded dirt and sandstone. You can walk to the viewpoint to see a panoramic view of the site and the surrounding green forest. Lots of nice spots to take pictures. However, I recommend that you visit the place in the morning to avoid the midday heat and don't forget to apply sunscreen.

10 years ago, Fenniarail was taking its first steps to become a railway operator, and Operail Finland and its successor North Rail Oy was not even a thing yet and VR still had to monopoly on freight traffic. But nowadays, the Finnish railway systems is filled with operators in the freight sector and at Kurkimäki the three giants unite on a unique gathering as Fenniarail's Vectron North Rail Oy's Dr20 meet the speeding class Sr1s of VR.

This is one of the many very unique buildings on the Princeton university campus in Princeton, New Jersey. Some of the buildings reminded me of structures from the Harry Potter movies. The campus was very scenic and inspired me to take a few photos!
THE IMPERIAL SAND DUNES, a unique and separated part of the Sonoran Desert, unfolds across Southeastern California like “A SEA OF SAND" a 40-mile ribbon of raw silk that glows golden in the winter sun. This continually shifting landscape is a living canvas where wind-sculpted peaks reach heights of 300 feet, their surfaces unblemished except for the delicate ripples of sand created by the predominant breezes.
Unlike the rest of the Sonoran Desert, which was shaped by mountain erosion and volcanic activity, the Imperial Dunes were born from an ancient sea. Approximately 2,000 years ago, a massive freshwater body called Lake Cahuilla covered the region. When the lake dried up roughly 500 years ago, prevailing winds blew its leftover beach sands eastward into the 45-mile-long band seen today. The dunes are "alive" and constantly shifting, migrating southeast at a rate of approximately one foot per year.
While much of the Sonoran Desert is used for agriculture or conservation, The Imperial Dunes have a unique dual identity. Because of it’s predominant massive dunes, "The Sea of Sand" offers the largest off roading recreational mecca in the U.S., developing a Glamis-like community of OHV enthusiasts within this high-energy playground for ATVs and sand rails.
If the beauty and activity encompassing the dunes during the day is not enough, wait for Sunrise and Sunset to transform the dunes into a surreal, "otherworldly" landscape, casting long, dramatic shadows across the tawny hills of "THE SEA OF SAND".
Nothing unique about this shot, except that it’s a beaver, which I don’t see very often. This guy appeared rather suddenly, surfacing close to the shoreline where I was walking; he climbed up on a submerged log and chewed on a stick for a couple of minutes before disappearing again just as quickly. It was as though he came to pose for my camera. Thanks, Bucky!
For Our Daily Challenge: Natural Colors
While I am not a fan of hot weather, Death Valley National Park has to be one of my favorite National Parks in the US. There is so much unique geology there to keep a landscape photographer busy for years. One such place is known as "The Racetrack" that showcase these amazing "moving rocks". Sadly over the years, this location has become more popular, which also means more idiots are making the drive down the 27 mile 4x4 road to get there and causing damage on the track itself. Earlier this year I noticed missing rocks, fake tracks where individuals drug rocks by hand and an unbelievable amount of foot prints (you are not allowed to set foot on the playa when it rains). If you get a chance to visit, I do recommended seeing it atleast once...but do it soon, because I fear the damage is only going to get worse.

I used a small Lightroom plugin called LRENFUSE to blend three raw files together. In Lightroom I then adjusted contrast, clarity and applied a slight warm glow to the mud play using the local adjustments brush. In the sky, I adjust vibrance, contrast and saturation. I then jumped into Photoshop and used +onOne Software 's Perfect Effects 3 to pull out the texture and detail on both the mud play and the rock separately.
Gorinto are unique, stupa-like structures often seen at temples in Japan. As the name might imply, the gorinto has five differently shaped stones piled on top of each other. They represent the five different elements.
Originally one of the Four Great Temples of Asuka, the ancient capitol of Japan, Daian-ji was moved to its current location in 718 following the court's move to Heijo-kyo. It is one of the Nanto Shichi Daiji (The Seven Great Temples of Nara) and the last stop on the Yamato Jusan Butsu pilgrimage. It was a huge temple complex in its Asuka days, taking up almost five city blocks. According to John Martin's Nara: A Cultural Guide, Daian-ji fell into disrepair after the capitol moved to Kyoto--it suffered severe damage from fire in the 1200's and from an earthquake in 1449. Today, only a few structures remain on a small temple grounds.

Each bead starts with a base of Double Helix's Ekho glass. The bead is struck and reduced in the flame to produce shades purple and blue with a mother of pearl luster. Next each bead is encased for depth and then hand shaped.

Saint Basilica Nicholas and the Dominican monastery - one of the oldest temples in Gdansk , was founded in the late twelfth century. Closed until further notice from October 31, 2018 due to poor technical condition threatening a construction disaster. The first small church dedicated to St. It was built probably in 1185. It was built at the intersection of two important trade routes: the ancient merchants' road ( via mercatorum ) and the road leading from the Gdańsk castle to the princely estates in Pomerania . From the beginning, the church served both the local population and merchants and sailors coming to Gdańsk from all parts of the world.

As I was out in our backyard setting up to capture a full moon image, I turned around and this view popped! Had fun playing with this capture! The edit I came up with is of our chiminea that we fire up quite often.

Primula vulgaris, the common primrose, is a species of flowering plant in the family Primulaceae, native to western and southern Europe, northwest Africa, and parts of southwest Asia. The common name is primrose, or occasionally common primrose or English primrose to distinguish it from other Primula species also called primroses. None of these are closely related to the evening primroses (genus Oenothera). Primula vulgaris is a perennial growing 10–30 cm tall, with a basal rosette of leaves which are more-or-less evergreen in favoured habitats. It flowers in early spring in the northern hemisphere (February–April) on slopes and meadows. The leaves are 5–25 cm long and 2–6 cm broad, often heavily wrinkled, with an irregularly crenate to dentate margin. The leaf blade is gradually attenuated towards the base and unevenly toothed. The single stem, extremely short, is hidden in the centre of the leaf rosette. The delicately scented flowers are 2–4 cm in diameter, borne singly on short slender stems. The flowers are typically pale yellow, though white or pink forms are often seen in nature. The flowers are actinomorphic with a superior ovary which later forms a capsule opening by valves to release the small black seeds. The native range of P. vulgaris encompasses western and southern Europe. In the north, the distribution area extends from central Norway near the Faroe Islands via the British Isles, Denmark, northern Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France to southern Portugal in the south and the tip of North Africa in Algeria. To the east, the range extends through the southern European peninsulas to the Crimea, Balkans, Syria, Turkey and Armenia. S10N_220
