Zebras run in a zig-zag pattern when being chased by a predator to make it more difficult for the predator to run after them. The pattern of a zebras stripes are different for each individual zebra, making them each as unique snowflakes!

Old, unique, and full of personality… The Tufa is otherworldly, but you need to search to find the best views. When we finally arrived at the South Tufa in the afternoon, we were thrilled and surprised by the number and beauty of these incredible God made structures on the lake... There is an easy boardwalk trail down to the Lake. The views are magnificent and beautiful. This lake is often used as the face of 'wish you were here' postcards, and deservedly so.

On a long (8.5 hours) hike to the Subway in Zion National Park / Utah / USA we passed these magnificent cascade. For me they were because of the autumnal coloring of deciduous trees, the unique highlight of this tour.

When I have some spare time I like to browse through my photo archive and quite often I find pictures that initially didn't catch my attention. I took this one at the main yard of Salk Institute, just a few miles outside San Diego. As I described on another photo that I posted from there (The outernationalists), this is a unique place where the whole scenery (the architecture of the buildings, the view of the ocean, the seagulls) calms your soul. Torrey Pines gliderport is nearby so as you can imagine lots of paragliders make low flights close to Salk Institute while riding the strong winds coming from the ocean. If you ever find yourself in San Diego, don't miss a chance to visit this magnificent place. Happy Thursday everybody and stay safe.

On my way to Kamloops, I had thoughts in mind for a photo of the hoodoos prior to sundown. However, an unintended delay stretched my departure and I missed my planned arrival. To that end it is always a good idea to have an alternate destination. There are so many opportunities out there that the one in mind will wait for another day.
This place was my alternate destination and has often rendered terrific results. However, since "you never know till you go", meant observing this rather unique event. The red line in the sky was occurring at the sunset hour and reflecting off the Thompson River. A short walk and I was in an ideal spot to catch this isolated event.
and this is a beautiful, beautiful thing, grasshopper.

Grasshoppers are insects of the suborder Caelifera within the order Orthoptera, which includes crickets and their allies in the other suborder Ensifera. They are probably the oldest living group of chewing herbivorous insects, dating back to the early Triassic around 250 million years ago. Grasshoppers are typically ground-dwelling insects with powerful hind legs which enable them to escape from threats by leaping vigorously. They are hemimetabolous insects (they do not undergo complete metamorphosis) which hatch from an egg into a nymph or "hopper" which undergoes five moults, becoming more similar to the adult insect at each developmental stage. At high population densities and under certain environmental conditions, some grasshopper species can change colour and behaviour and form swarms. Under these circumstances they are known as locusts.

The unique design of the Oval Plaza, also called the Oval Forum, cleverly connects two divergent main axes of the ancient city. The much older Sanctuary of Zeus faces northeast toward the original settlement core of Gerasa on the opposite hill (where the museum stands today). When, at the turn of the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, the new Cardo was laid out as the city's north-south connection and main street, it had to incorporate the central Sanctuary of Zeus in a representative way, which was not possible through a frontal approach because of the river valley and the rules of Roman urban planning with a rectangular street network.
I have seen sunflower fields many times - but rarely such a jungle. The perspective was really interesting - it felt like going downhill and then up a slope. This was already in the shade and the foreground was illuminated by the sun - the whole thing with a 200 mm focal length and a blurred foreground ... that's it ...

Ich habe schon oft Sonnenblumenfelder gesehen - doch selten solch einen Dschungel. Die Perspektive war echt interessant - gefühlt ging es erst bergab und dann einen Hang hinauf. Dieser lag bereits im Schatten und der Vordergrund wurde von der Sonne angestrahlt - das Ganze mit einer 200 mm Brennweite und einem unscharfen Vordergrund...das war's...
Unique social passerine with a disproportionately long tail and very short and rounded wings. Overall pallid sandy-brown. Often seen hopping on the ground with its tail cocked. Favors vegetated desert wadis and plains in the Middle East; also found near human habitation. Eats arthropods, plants, and berries. Moves around in noisy social groups; the subject of intensive studies for decades. Gives a high-pitched “tsee tsee tsee.” (eBird)

Although the description above suggests that these birds are easy to see, that was not our experience. While we did see them in groups, they were usually hidden in quite dense vegetation and were very difficult to photograph. I really like babblers as a family because they are cute and fun to watch so I was pleased to finally get a half-decent shot of this one perched briefly on a branch.

this is just one of the incredibly beautiful mountainscapes I had the chance to see after coming back from a hike in the Andes, right at the Argentina-Chile border. The car was moving but the landscape was unique, so I did my best to get it right. no time for tripods nor for second chances, think fast and shoot fast. special thanks to the bus driver whom kindly slowed down a bit to help me out.

The least colorful part of this colorful plant is what caught my attention -- a single white flower.
This house was built in Popivka village of Zinkivskyi district of Poltavska Region in the second half of 19th Century. This is unique farmer’s dwelling of Poltavshchyna’s second half of 19th Century, with its five rooms, carved konyky on tips of its logs, “washed” linden walls.
This house was the property of Skorupa M.M., who inherited it from her mother. Since first building, the house has never been reconstructed or redesigned, except for the stove (inside the house).
A house from Popivka village of the second half of 19th Century represents a late, well-developed type of a house “in two parts”. There are five rooms therein: a solar, a room, a home, a storeroom and a mudroom. The mudroom has two walk-through doors – a direct path from the main façade of the garden.
This is a log-house made of linden. The walls outside are clayed on processed wood and whitewashed. Inside walls of all the premises have their structure open and “washed”. They washed the walls with water-alkaline solution (thick layer of stove ashes had to be filtered with warm water).
The house is supported by oak-tree piles.
The top longitudinal logs of the house are opened on sides with tips konyky, decorated with traditional carving. These konyky are constructively interconnected with transverse linden lumbers, which support rafters.
Logs of the house, pairs are rafters are fixed with oak-tree nails tyblia.
The house is covered with sheaves of rye straw on pairs. The pairs and rafters are made of linden; the lower logs of the houses are made of oak tree.
Perimeter walk of the house is high, outlined brightly. Small windows have one-leaf shutters in house, in solar they are outlined with red clay.
Floor of the house is made of well-packed clay; the storeroom’s floor is made of oak boards on lumbers. The ceiling is made of round sticks, laid on beams, clayed from the both sides.
The chimney is twiggen longitudinally and clayed from inside and outside.
In front of the entrance, there is an awning on two columns.
This is a linden “wooden” house. Its plan is the one of a well-developed “two halves” dwelling. Having divided the solar, the owner received one more space – a “room”. The log walls outside are clayed and whitewashed. Internal walls in all the premises are “washed”. The lower logs of walls are made of oak. The roof is covered with sheaves of straw.

Належало житло Скорупі М. М., яка одержала його у спадок від матері.
Від часу побудови хата не зазнала серйозних конструктивно – планувальних переробок, за винятком печі (у хаті).
Хата з села Попівка другої половини ХІХ ст. – пізній місцевий розвинений тип хати - «хата на дві половини». В ній п’ять приміщень: світлиця, кімната, хатина, комора, сіни. Сіни мають двоє наскрізних дверей – безпосередній прохід з боку головного фасаду в сад (чи город).
Хата рублена. Вінці зрубу з липи. Зруб ззовні обмащений по клинцьованій деревині, побілений. Всередині стіни всіх приміщень мають відкритий зруб і «миті». Мили стіни водним розчином лугу (проціджували теплою водою шар пічної золи).
Хата поставлена на дубові стояни.
Верхні подовжні вінці зрубу виходять на причілки «кониками», які оздоблені самобутнім різьбленням. «Коники» конструктивно зв’язані між собою поперечними липовими брусками, на них покладено причілкові крокви.
Вінці зрубу, лати і крокви між собою кріпляться дубовими тиблями.
Хата вшита парками з житньої соломи по латах. Крокви і лати з липи. Нижні вінця зрубу хати – дубові.
Призьба хати висока з яскравою підводкою. Малі вікна мають одностулкові віконниці з боку хатини, а з боку світлиці обведені червоною глиною.
Долівка в хаті глиняна, трамбована і мазана; в коморі підлога дощата по лагах, дубова. Стеля із круглого хворосту, покладеного на слижні, знизу і зверху мазана глиною.
Бовдур плетений подовжньо лозою і обмазаний глиною з внутрішньої та зовнішньої сторін.
Перед входом до хати – піддашок на двох стовпчиках.
Хата липова, «мита». За своїм плануванням – це розвинений тип житла на дві половини. Переділивши світлицю, господар отримав ще одне приміщення – «кімнату». Зруб ззовні обмащений глиною і побілений. Всередині стіни всіх приміщень «миті». Нижні вінця зрубу – дубові. Покрівля солом′яна, парками.
Площа - 69.49 м2 (11.96 х 5.81)
Common in name and number, but each one unique in my eyes and still inspiring joy and intrigue.
These common crow butterflies seem to favour resting on the trails of tears succulent I have. This past week I've seen one or two there every day.
Also known as the oleander butterfly due to them laying their eggs on the leaves of plants that have a milky sap such as oleander and two species of fig, amongst others.
This is specifically Euploea core ssp. corinna.

Distinctive pair and . . they both are designed to use their razor-sharp wheels to cut slices through pizzas! But these two specific bikes will not be used for that and instead will be enjoyed TOGETHER as a pair of lovely and unique objects.

Small, slender oriole. Adult males are a unique rich chestnut-brown color with a black head. Females are dull yellow-green with white wingbars. Immature males are similar to females, but with a black throat and mask. Breeds in open woodlands, river edges, pastures with scattered trees, and brushy orchards. Visits feeders with nectar and fruits. Departs breeding grounds early and heads to wintering grounds in Mexico and Central America, where it can be found in any open or wooded habitat. Compare with female Hooded Oriole, which is larger and longer-tailed and has a narrower, more curved bill. (eBird)

A common garden bird throughout much of Asia, found in open forests, fields, and parks; introduced to several regions around the world. Often tame and approachable. Brown overall with a rosy breast and a unique white-spotted black nape patch. Plumage shows slight regional variation: western birds have dark centers to wing feathers, lacking in eastern birds. Turtle-doves are larger, have black centers to wing feathers and stripes rather than spots on the neck. Coos loudly and often: “coo-a-roooo”. (eBird)

A familiar bird to us but welcome nevertheless. We saw or heard this pretty dove most days during our time in Singapore, usually deep in the trees or on the ground.

Sunrises are always unique and even when the sun doesn't make an appearance have their own charm. The wind didn't favor bird photography on the morning when this was taken while I was visited Jacksonville, but I thought the sunrise was beautiful and the simple composition appeals to me. Maybe it's the bird! Have a good day!
