Winter is coming, and autumn, the only remaining flower, seeks some life!
Old, unique, and full of personality… The Tufa is otherworldly, but you need to search to find the best views. When we finally arrived at the South Tufa in the afternoon, we were thrilled and surprised by the number and beauty of these incredible God made structures on the lake... There is an easy boardwalk trail down to the Lake. The views are magnificent and beautiful. This lake is often used as the face of 'wish you were here' postcards, and deservedly so.

Unique, mystic topography and sacred to the aborigines. is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory in central Australia. It lies 335 km south west of the nearest large town, Alice Springs. Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara Anangu, the Aboriginal people of the area. The area around the formation is home to an abundance of springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Uluru and Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, are the two major features of the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park. 15453
Petunia is a genus in the family Solanaceae, subfamily Petunioideae. Well known members of Solanaceae in other subfamilies include tobacco (subfamily Nicotianoideae), and the cape gooseberry, tomato, potato, deadly nightshade and chili pepper (subfamily Solanoideae). It's a flowering plant of South American origin. Petunias can tolerate relatively harsh conditions and hot climates, but not frost. They need at least five hours of sunlight every day and flourish in moist soil and conditions of low atmospheric humidity. Petunias are generally insect pollinated.The Maya and Inca believed that the scent of petunias had the power to ward off underworld monsters and spirits. Another unique shop/cafe in the historic shopping district of Micanopy, FL. Many years ago Micanopy was known for their antique shops and was a very desired location for dealers, but sadly the desire for antiques has fallen over the years. We were afraid of what we would find here after a pandemic too, but most of the buildings were still occupied and there are more gift shops and restaurants taking over.

Grasshoppers are insects of the suborder Caelifera within the order Orthoptera, which includes crickets and their allies in the other suborder Ensifera. They are probably the oldest living group of chewing herbivorous insects, dating back to the early Triassic around 250 million years ago. Grasshoppers are typically ground-dwelling insects with powerful hind legs which enable them to escape from threats by leaping vigorously. They are hemimetabolous insects (they do not undergo complete metamorphosis) which hatch from an egg into a nymph or "hopper" which undergoes five moults, becoming more similar to the adult insect at each developmental stage. At high population densities and under certain environmental conditions, some grasshopper species can change colour and behaviour and form swarms. Under these circumstances they are known as locusts.

The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is a 416-hectare botanical garden located in a hilly area of the southwestern Sydney suburb of Mount Annan, between Campbelltown and Camden, New South Wales. It is the largest botanical garden in Australia, specializing in native plants, with a collection of over 4000 species. Officially opened in 1988, it was known as Mount Annan Botanic Garden, until 2011. The garden consists of Australian Bushland with cultivated displays. It is the Australian Plant Garden of the Botanic Gardens Trust and includes not only picnic areas and over 20 kilometres of walking tracks, but also a native flora research facility and the NSW Plant Bank. 26299
It is standing there like a visitor from another world, this small beech surrounded by large and small spruce trees. It's a late riser, because even though it's mid-April it is still in it's hibernation pajama.
A few years ago, the future tree took the chance when a few of the big ones fell at this point, allowing more light to reach the forest floor. Now it bravely fights it's way up into the canopy before the window can close again.
Since it's life expectancy is significantly higher than that of it's neighbors, there is a chance that one day (in 3 to 400 years) it will tower above everything around it. An ecosystem in itself, which provides shelter and food for tons of other life forms. Until then, however, it is still a long way and not without danger.
I would love to come back here than to take a look.
Wie ein Besucher aus einer anderen Welt steht sie da, diese kleine Buche, umringt von großen und kleinen Fichten. Sie ist ein Spätaufsteher, denn obwohl es schon Mitte April ist, hat sie immer noch den Schlafanzug von Ihrer Winterruhe an.
Vor ein paar Jahren hat sie die Chance genutzt, als an dieser Stelle ein paar der Großen gefallen sind und damit mehr Licht den Waldboden erreicht hat. Nun kämpft sie sich wacker nach oben ins Kronendach bevor sich das Fenster wieder schließen kann.
Da ihre Lebenserwartung deutlich über der Ihrer Nachbarn liegt besteht die Chance, dass sie einmal (so in 3 bis 400 Jahren) alles um sich herum überragt. Ein Ökosystem für sich, welches Unmengen anderer Lebensformen Schutz und Nahrung bietet. Bis dahin, ist es allerdings noch ein weiter und nicht ungefährlicher Weg.
Ich würde dann zu gern hierher zurück kommen, um mir das einmal anzusehen.

Large tree with cones the size of bowling balls - risky to stand under tree, as they drop at random! Araucaria bidwillii, the bunya pine, is a large evergreen coniferous tree in the plant family Araucariaceae. It is found naturally in south-east Queensland Australia and two small disjunct populations in north eastern Queensland's World Heritage listed Wet Tropics. There are many old planted specimens in New South Wales, and around the Perth, Western Australia metropolitan area. They can grow up to 30–45 m. The cones are opened by large birds, such as cockatoos, or disintegrate when mature to release the large 3–4 cm seeds or nuts. 7340
A very unique looking bird adept at natural camouflage and found in the higher elevations of the Himalayas. The male - in this picture - has a very interesting pattern and I struggled to sight it for a couple of minutes even while the others started taking shots.
This is a gamebird closely related to the Grouse bird. The birds just lay down on the forest floor and stay still making it very tough to identify them. They also forage on the forest floor eating pine nuts, shoots, seeds, pollen and other fruits that fall on the ground. I believe they are named after their calls (noted from Wikipedia).

A uniquely-patterned, medium-sized hummingbird, the adult male White-necked Jacobin has a blue head and chest, a sharply contrasting white nape, a green back and blackish wings. The White-necked Jacobin can be found in a variety of habitats from humid forest canopies, to tall second growth forests, and even in coffee and cacao plantations. White-necked Jacobin can be found within its broad range feeding on nectar and small arthropods; occasionally, many will concentrate at flowering trees where they are aggressive and even territorial to one another. Although uncommon throughout most of its large range, the White-necked Jacobin's population is believed to be stable, and consequently has not been placed on any threatened species lists. Here you can see a juvenile (left) and an adult (right).

I've never seen another jumping spider that looked like this one. Her patterns seem pretty unique to me and in my opinion her coloration is beautiful. Photographed in Pasadena, MD.
The least colorful part of this colorful plant is what caught my attention -- a single white flower.

My iPhone could not capture how truly unique this cloud looked. I thought I had captured the whole circle but unfortunately I didn’t look until later. :(
Unique sparrow with incredible variation between populations. Generally patterned with gray, white, and shades of tan. All have pinkish bills and white outer tail feathers. Juveniles are streaky. Breeds in a variety of forested habitats, especially with conifers. Found in any wooded habitat in the winter, often in flocks. Usually forages on the ground for seeds, but also fond of brushy thickets or weedy fields. Visits feeders. Subspecies include: Slate-colored (widespread), Oregon (West), Pink-sided (Rockies), Gray-headed (Rockies and southwest U.S. to Mexico), Red-backed (central Arizona and New Mexico), and White-winged (breeds in Black Hills, winters mainly Colorado).
