The moment captured between chilling and unhinging.

Seagull perched on the rail keeping a keen eye on the lookout.......

Often you see a flock of Gulls flying around a fishing vessel as it enters the harbour with its fresh catch of the day.

Good eating for these smart birds.

Gulls, or colloquially seagulls, are seabirds of the family Laridae in the suborder Lari. They are most closely related to the terns (family Sternidae) and only distantly related to auks, skimmers and even more distantly to waders. Until the 21st century, most gulls were placed in the genus Larus, but that arrangement is now considered polyphyletic, leading to the resurrection of several general.

An older name for gulls is mews, which is cognate with German Möwe, Danish måge, Swedish mås, Dutch meeuw, Norwegian måke/måse and French mouette, and can still be found in certain regional dialects.

Gulls are typically medium to large birds, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls; stout, longish bills; and webbed feet. Most gulls are ground-nesting carnivores which take live food or scavenge opportunistically, particularly the Larus species. Live food often includes crustaceans, molluscs, fish and small birds. Gulls have unhinging jaws which allow them to consume large prey. Gulls are typically coastal or inland species, rarely venturing far out to sea, except for the kittiwakes. The large species take up to four years to attain full adult plumage, but two years is typical for small gulls. Large white-headed gulls are typically long-lived birds, with a maximum age of 49 years recorded for the herring gull.

Gulls nest in large, densely packed, noisy colonies. They lay two or three speckled eggs in nests composed of vegetation. The young are precocial, born with dark mottled down and mobile upon hatching. Gulls are resourceful, inquisitive, and intelligent, the larger species in particular demonstrating complex methods of communication and a highly developed social structure. For example, many gull colonies display mobbing behavior, attacking and harassing predators and other intruders.Certain species have exhibited tool-use behavior, such as the herring gull, using pieces of bread as bait with which to catch goldfish, for example.[ Many species of gulls have learned to coexist successfully with humans and have thrived in human habitats. Others rely on kleptoparasitism to get their food. Gulls have been observed preying on live whales, landing on the whale as it surfaces to peck out pieces of flesh.

Haven't done one of my *photages* in ages. These are not collages, but compositions put together graphically from my photographic archives. No *pasting* or assemblage before photographing, which is a medium used in traditional paper collages!

Getting up very early with high spirits and hopes to find some diamonds and ghosts in the old ghost town of Kolmanskop by Lüderitz. It didn't end up very successfully. I just found a shabby unhinged door ;-)

[Treasure hunter and adventure Nathan Drake awakens freezing, numb, confused, and covered in snow. He groggily takes in his surroundings, and finds himself in the seat of a train car. He looks down at his blood covered hands to find himself impaled by an ornate, ancient dagger.

"That's my blood... That's my blood... That's a lot of my blood."

He looks out the window and is confused by what he finds. It almost looks like the rockface is sideways...

Suddenly parts of the car rocket towards him. He dodges and realizes the train is hanging off the side of a cliff! The seat he is sitting on comes unhinged and falls. He barely grasps another seat, but it is to no avail. His fingers are weak and numb and he is groggy from loss of blood. He slips, and the train car flies by him,and he finds himself falling out the door. He just barely manages to grab a rail connected to the end of the car.

"Oh, crap..."

My first moc in a while! This is the opening sequence of Uncharted 2. The opening was an incredible start to an incredible game. The Uncharted games, especially 2 and 4, are some of the best games I've ever played.

Not much else to say. It's a really big and heavy build, and took quite a while to make. Thanks for looking, and I'll try to build something else soon! (school and such tends to interfere)

Puffins sometimes nest in cliff crevices, but most often they nest in burrows on predator-free islands like the Farnes. Sometimes they excavate their own burrows, but sometimes they appropriate burrows from rabbits or Manx Shearwaters. The actual nest is lined with grass and is usually 70-110cm from the entrance. A single egg (sometimes two) is laid early to mid May and both birds share incubation for 39 to 43 days. I photographed this Puffin on 10 June which is just about when the first baby Puffins would be hatching so this may have been bringing food back to feed the youngster. But it may just be displaying to a potential mate what a good provider it would be with a beakful of sandeels. The bill "unhinges" so that it can close with parallel serrated edges and the tongue is rough to help it hold sandeels against the bill. The record number of Sandeels held by one Puffin is an amazing 83, though I'm guessing these were small ones.

JONATHAN LIVINGSTON SEAGULL... (Richard Bach, 1970)

This photo and all those in my Photostream are protected by copyright. No one may reproduce, copy, transmit or manipulate them without my written permission.

For the past few years, all of my Flickr photos have followed the exact same format: A dumb title that more often than not had absolutely nothing to do with the contents of the photo, and a description that very rarely had anything more than the location, subdivision, and date of the photo.

Now let me bore you a little bit with my history within the railfan hobby, there is a TL;DR at the end if you don't care. My first venture into this hobby began with a blog that I created when I was 11 years old (2010). That blog, called Crossing Talk, centered heavily around railroad crossings both in real life and on Trainz Railroad Simulator. Over time, my interest shifted towards trains, then train photography. I continued blogging during that shift, often telling the stories behind the photos I took. For the next few years, all of my train content went on my YouTube page and my blogs. I was far from the only one- some of the more reputable railfans of the 2000s and 2010s had their Blogger and WordPress sites as their main platforms. It stayed this way until 2017, when I started joining railfan Facebook groups, created my Instagram, and started posting on this very Flickr account. Just like that, my blog went dormant. Other railfans that had blogs followed suit.

Back to my Flickr titles. The reason they are the way they are is because I simply cannot be assed to think of a creative title, and I think generic titles such as "J54 in Kimball" are boring, so my titles are literally the first thing that come to my head. It can be something as simple as a remark regarding the food I am eating at the time, or a general gripe I have with humanity. If I am feeling frisky, I will even plagiarize off of the Wikipedia pages of businesses. The titles will not be changing. I am an unhinged person and unhinged people require unhinged titles.

What went away with my blog is the story that comes behind each photo. I have met some amazing people, eaten at amazing places, and visited so many landmarks that I would never have if it weren't for this hobby, and I'd like to bring those stories back to life. For this reason, I have made a little New Year's resolution to myself that I will be putting substantive descriptions on some (but not all) of my Flickr photos. One of my stronger suits has always been expressing myself through writing. I'm going to be bringing back the stuff that got me into this hobby in the first place.

TL;DR: My descriptions are going to be less useless.

Yup , it is all unhinged here looking at doors , gates , laptops and even gizmos to hold an embroidery hoop plus in fact not forgetting the little door on the camera to get at the SD card !! If it opens on a hinge , it has been considered for this weeks SSC hinges week . There is even the laptop that we know has a hinge to open up the screen and keyboard but it is not so visible , although , the page open is the brief for Jan's Challenge !!

Oh , in case you ask , the background was taken at the same time I was hunting hinges when a flock of murmurating pigeons did a bit of an airshow !!

I liked the light and collection of junk, windows, and doors in this alley.

During our outing in downtown St Paul we passed this alley where this old wooden walk-in refrigerator door caught my eye.

As threatened, a few more from the same walk yielding yesterday's photo in collage form. The top two from the only surfaced road leading to my house, this offering a number of dirt roads and trails to explore as in the lower two. After 9+ years of walking the area, I know most of them. However, somehow the familiarity has never led to contempt, disproving the old adage...at least as it relates to nature. As for the subject of its initial intent, people, that may be a different story.

Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends. I was wondering if perhaps PM Trudeau might consider a peaceful takeover of your southern neighbor. Today is Columbus Day in the US, something which like everything else is now cause for debate and protest. Forget that the history is "fake news," the problem is that celebration of this is now apparently racist. Everything, of course, is now racist. There are people who in addition to tearing down monuments to the Confederacy, would also get rid of the Washington and Jefferson memorials in Washington and blow up Mount Rushmore. In fact, I heard a Black Lives Matter leader pronounce categorically that "if you're white, you're racist." Hmmm. Our nation has clearly become completely unhinged on every little issue. We can't even watch a sporting event anymore without front page controversy. It's insane, getting worse, and not solely because of Trump. The media simply avoids coverage of the crazies on other side. On second thought, M. Trudeau, a hostile takeover would be good as well....and provide a happy Thanksgiving for us next month. ;-))

The European herring gull (Larus argentatus) is a large gull, up to 66 cm (26 in) long. One of the best-known of all gulls along the shores of Western Europe, it was once abundant. It breeds across Northern Europe, Western Europe, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Baltic states. Some European herring gulls, especially those resident in colder areas, migrate further south in winter, but many are permanent residents, e.g. in Ireland, Britain, Iceland, or on the North Sea shores. They have a varied diet, including fish, crustaceans, and dead animals, as well as some plants. While herring gull numbers appear to have been harmed in recent years, possibly by fish population declines and competition, they have proved able to survive in human-adapted areas and can often be seen in towns acting as scavengers. 30007

Last weekend I went to Llanddwyn Island, again. It's a favourite place. I would like it to be my final resting place. But not yet. I've got unfinished business.

Unofficially I renamed it "I wish Island" because I wish... and I threw a message in a bottle into the water. It set me day-dreaming. The island has that effect on me.

And today I got a surprise, so much out of the blue that I am still reeling. A nice surprise, so utterly unexpected, that it later got me thinking about surprises. They happen all the time, good and bad but what should we make of them? I sought out some greater wisdom, and found these words:

"Surprise is the greatest gift which life can grant us". Yup. I've got to agree with that.

"A story to me means a plot where there is some surprise. Because that is how life is - full of surprises". I love a story with twists and surprises.

"The moments of happiness we enjoy take us by surprise. It is not that we seize them, but that they seize us". Very true

"I have seen many storms in my life. Most storms have caught me by surprise, so I had to learn very quickly to look further and understand that I am not capable of controlling the weather, to exercise the art of patience and to respect the fury of life". Yes I think I am tolerant and fairly patient

"There is no surprise more magical than the surprise of being loved: It is God's finger on man's shoulder". Yes, I feel that one.

"About myself I have no great illusions. I know what I am. I know what I'm good at. I know what I ain't. I'm always hoping to surprise myself. But I do know how to smile and I do love to communicate it, and that's the best I can do, really". Yes, I certainly try!

"Now we're e-mailing and tweeting and texting so much, a Christmas card comes as a fresh surprise. I get text messages on my cell phone all day long, and it warbles to alert me that someone has sent me a communication on Facebook or a reply or direct message on Twitter, but the postman hardly ever rings". Unless you are a very lucky boy.

You see the surprise unhinged me, and I'm rambling now!

Near Pine Flat Reservoir,

Fresno County, Ca.

In a fairly remote area next to the road and along a very beautiful stream. Not sure what its original purpose was, but suspect it had something to do with the stream. Someone apparently has determined it would make a nice outhouse.

I could not help but invoke my vulgar self and imagining that it fit the old (archaic?) saying, "Built like a brick shithouse." The term was used for describing many things, including a well endowed female.

For Slider Sunday. The doors and stairs were laboriously separated from background. The background was processed with a Ps Artistic filter from the Filter Gallery followed by the Lens Blur filter and some brightness slider adjustments.
