Kalesas or horse-drawn carriages at the cobblestone street of Calle Crisologo, Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Vigan is a UNESCO World Heritage site. UNESCO refers to it as the “the best-preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia. Its architecture reflects the coming together of cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines, from China and from Europe, resulting in a culture and townscape that have no parallel anywhere in East and South-East Asia.”

One of the more representative architectural elements of Morelia is its well preserved aqueduct.

The aqueduct made of Pink Cantera Stone connected Centro Morelia to the springs of San Miguel de el Monte, approximately 7 Km southeast of the city.

Construction between 1785 and 1789, was the impetus of bishop Fray Antonio de San Miguel.

The Aqueduct operated until 1910.

The 253 remaining arches and two water boxes extend for about 1,800 meters. The water boxes acted as storage to help settle silt from the arriving water.

The aqueduct was an important element for the Historic Center of Morelia being declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991.

The Morelia aqueduct has appeared on the back of Mexico's 50 Peso note.

This image shows one of the lock systems in our area. This is only one of the four at Jone's Falls. I had such a great time that day as it is just prior to the tourist season for this area so I had the park area almost all to myself. Bliss!!

The small stone building on the left is a Blacksmith shop and there actually was a blacksmith working in there the day I was here. I have another shot that shows the smoke and glow from inside. I will post it later this week. This is best viewed large of course.

Bagan is located on a broad plain along the Irrawaddy River some 500 km (311 mi.) north-northwest of Yangon, in the Mandalay Region, Myanmar. It became the capital of the Pagan Kingdom, which grew to encompass nearly all of present day Myanmar from the 9th to the 13th centuries. During that period some 1,000 stupas, 10,000 small temples, and 3,000 monasteries were built on the Plain of Bagan. Mongol invasions caused the kingdom to collapse in 1287. Subject to more than 400 earthquakes since 1904, much of Bagan's architecture has been lost.

In 2019, Bagan was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Covering an area of 50 sq. km (12,369 acres), UNESCO notes that the site includes "3,595 surviving monuments" and includes the Gawdawpalin Temple seen here. Construction began in 1203 by King Narapatisithu (aka Sithu II, ruled 1174-1211) and was completed in 1227 by King Htilominlo (ruled 1211-1235). The temple was severely damaged by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake which struck on 08 July 1975 and has since been repaired.

I just love this shot. A poppy gets a foothold on the retaining wall of the Theater of Dionysos on the flanks of the Acropolis in Athens. But, besides making for a nice photo, this shot shows off some significant ancient masonry. This wall dates to early Imperial Roman days and represents the final set of major renovations to the theater, holding back the earthen bank making up 'house right'. The incised marginal draft, highlighting the perfection of the fit between the drystone blocks, is characteristic of Roman large ashlar masonry of the time.

INDONESIEN, Java, hinduistische Tempelanlage Prambanan

Spruce Tree House was constructed between about 1211 and 1278 CE by the ancestors of the Pueblo peoples of the Southwest. The dwelling contains about 130 rooms and 8 kivas, or ceremonial chambers, built into a natural alcove measuring 216 feet (66 meters) at greatest width and 89 feet (27 meters) at its greatest depth. It is thought to have been home for about 60 to 80 people.

The cliff dwelling was first discovered in 1888, when two local ranchers chanced upon it while searching for stray cattle.

The Perito Moreno Glacier (Spanish: Glaciar Perito Moreno) is a glacier located in Los Glaciares National Park in southwest Santa Cruz Province, Argentina. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Argentine Patagonia.

The 250 km2 (97 sq mi) ice formation, 30 km (19 mi) in length, is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes system shared with Chile. This ice field is the world's third largest reserve of fresh water.

The Perito Moreno Glacier, located 78 kilometres (48 mi) from El Calafate, was named after the explorer Francisco Moreno, a pioneer who studied the region in the 19th century and played a major role in defending the territory of Argentina in the conflict surrounding the international border dispute with Chile.

Despite most of the innumerable glaciers worldwide retreating, one of the few unusual glaciers that maintains in a state of equilibrium is the Perito Moreno Glacier because it continues to accumulate mass at a rate similar to that of its loss. The reason remains debated by glaciologists.

The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 km (3.1 mi) wide, with an average height of 74 m (240 ft) above the surface of the water of Argentino Lake, in Argentina. It has a total ice depth of 170 metres (558 ft).

Holy light shines into Geghard, a medieval monastery and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, near Goght, in Kotayk province of Armenia.

Geghard was founded in 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator, and is partially carved out of the adjacent mountain. The name of Geghard (Armenian: Գեղարդ, meaning "spear") originates from the spear which had wounded Jesus at the Crucifixion, allegedly brought to Armenia by Apostle Jude, and stored amongst many other relics.

京都 醍醐寺 林泉苑

Daigo-ji (醍醐寺 Daigo-ji) is a Shingon Buddhist temple in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Japan. Its main devotion (honzon) is Yakushi. Daigo, literally "ghee", is used figuratively to mean "crème de la crème" and is a metaphor of the most profound part of Buddhist thoughts.

Daigo-ji was founded in the early Heian period. In 874, Rigen-daishi (Shōbō) founded the temple.

After having fallen ill and abdicated in 930, Emperor Daigo entered Buddhist priesthood at this temple. As a monk, he took the Buddhist name Hō-kongō; and shortly thereafter, died at the age of 46. He was buried in the temple, which is why his posthumous name was Daigo.

Several structures, including the kondō and the five-story pagoda, are National Treasures of Japan. The temple possesses 18 specifically designated national treasures, including the buildings and other works as well; and the temple holds several dozen important cultural assets. Wall paintings at the temple were the subject of academic research which earned the Imperial Prize of the Japan Academy in 1960.

As part of the "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto", it is designated as a World Heritage Site.

The five-storey pagoda at Daigoji temple was built in 951 and is the oldest building in Kyoto. It was one of few buildings to survive the Onin War in the 15th century. -wikipedia
