The UNESCO Site Ironbridge on a very bright May day in 2023. The bridge was designed by Thomas Telford and cast at Coalbrookdale.

The Severn Gorge at Ironbridge where much of the town is built on the side of the groge. On a rather bright and warmday early summer 2023.

Ironbridge as a town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of my my very favorite places to visit is the quaint old town of Ceský Krumlov. “It is the second most popular tourist destination in the Czech Republic after Prague. The center of the city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well deserves the designation; a visit is like stepping back in time to the 14th century as you stroll this perfectly preserved labyrinth of laneways with numerous Renaissance homes and buildings.” One fascinating fact I learned involves that big rock you can see at the base of the corner on the left side of the shop. Does anyone out there know its purpose? If not, play along and take a guess!

A B&W from inside Mission San José. It was founded in 1720. It is one of five of the San Antonio Missions National Park or The Mission Trail National Park in Texas. They are connected by the San Antonio River. The trail is about 15 miles long. Mission Concepcion is another of the five missions. It was completed in 1731 and is a U.S. National Historic Landmark as are the other missions located on the trail. Mission Alamo is also located on the trail. They are a UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The names of the five missions are Mission Concepcion, San Antonio de Valero ((Alamo), San Jose, San Francisco de la Espada, and San Juan Capistrano. About 2 1/2 miles separate each mission. They were built by Spanish Colonial residents. #NPS #B&W #MissionSanJosé #SanAntonio #Texas #MissionTrailNationalPark #白黒写真 #schwarz-weiß #NoirEtBlanc #church #mission #église #Kirche #UNESCOWorldHeritageSite

The Tower of Saint Vincent is another very important fortification in Lisbon Portugal, situated in the banks of the Tagus river. It served as a fortress but also a ceremonial getaway. Built during the Portuguese renascence period, the 16th century, and now another UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Another very crowded place to visit, as you can see in the left of the photo, so the decision was made, we were going to enjoy it from outside, and it was as impressive I imagine. Maybe next time?

Click on the photo, see it a little better.

If you want to know a little or lot about this important place, I found something very interesting:

Photography is one of my passions, and nature photography is my favorite.

I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.

I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!

The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

On this very changeable summer day, the evening sunshine finally made an appearance late in the day. This is the view from the slopes of Herdus overlooking Ennerdale Water, with the flanks carpeted in gorse. The sun really enchanced the vibrant yellow of the flowering bushes and contrasted perfectly with the moody sky.

The Cathedral is a striking white-painted monumental church with a single high belltower offset to the right of the main entrance. Built on a plan comprising three longitudinal naves surmounted by semi-ogival arches on square pillars, the basic spatial structure of the Cathedral is typical of the 16th century. Based upon interior features — especially the details of the pillars, arches, and the carved and coffered ceiling — some experts assert that the Cathedral should be characterized as Gothic-Mudéjar in style. It certainly has Gothic features in the pointed arches of its naves, as well as in the ambulatory that surrounds the presbytery.

Inside, the three naves are supported by pointed arches, which in turn are supported by pillars with square bases. The central nave has cedar panelling betraying Moorish influences. An extraordinary wooden coffered ceiling is supported by a golden frieze and beautiful paintings hang among the arches.

Petra Theater (Arabic: مسرح البتراء) is a first century AD Nabataean theatre situated 600 m from the centre of Petra. Substantial part of the theater was carved out of solid rock, while the scaena and exterior wall were constructed. The theater's auditorium consists of three horizontal sections of seats separated by passageways and seven stairways to ascend. The theater could accommodate a number of approximately 8500 people, more than the estimated number of Amman theater. Petra Theater follows similar architectural patterns of Roman theaters, which enhances superior acoustics

The mosque-cathedral identity of this site reminds me of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, when I was accused by one Flickr member that Hagia Sophia is not a church.

The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba was originally a church until Muslims conquered Spain in 700s. The grand mosque of Cordoba was built on the site subsequently. It was then converted to a Roman Catholic church after Córdoba returned to Christian rule in 1236.

My next stop in India, after experiencing the holy river Ganges, was the Taj Mahal. I never had a desire to see this famous architectural wonder, but I was wrong. It is magnificent and awes even the most skeptical person.

Usually I don't like including people in an image like this, but I intentionally did so this time. I thought they reinforced the grandeur of the this man made wonder.

The Iron Bridge is a cast iron arch bridge that crosses the River Severn in Shropshire, England. Opened in 1781, it was the first major bridge in the world to be made of cast iron. Its success inspired the widespread use of cast iron as a structural material, and today the bridge is celebrated as a symbol of the Industrial Revolution.

Olympia is a small town in Elis on the Peloponnese, famous for the nearby archaeological site of the same name. This site was a major Panhellenic religious sanctuary of ancient Greece, where the ancient Olympic Games were held every four years throughout Classical antiquity, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. They were restored on a global basis in 1894 in honor of the ideal of peaceful international contention for excellence.

The palaestra at Olympia is the ground or grounds in ancient Olympia where "wrestling," was taught and performed for training purposes; i.e., "wrestling-school."

Taken from Robinson looking across to Keswick.

Not a terribly good photo.. 200mm lens and then the photo was cropped.. also bear in mind my camera has a cropped sensor so the range was even greater.

These deer began to run as soon as they sensed me coming over the rise. Luckily I had my 200mm lens at the ready, I had been hearing the stags for quite a while and had been hoping to get a shot of them.

I took other shots of the deer later on, they were all long shots but didn't work out too well because of the mist..

Bagan is located on a broad plain along the Irrawaddy River some 500 km (311 mi.) north-northwest of Yangon, in the Mandalay Region, Myanmar. It became the capital of the Pagan Kingdom, which grew to encompass nearly all of present day Myanmar from the 9th to the 13th centuries. During that period some 1,000 stupas, 10,000 small temples, and 3,000 monasteries were built on the Plain of Bagan. Mongol invasions caused the kingdom to collapse in 1287. Subject to more than 400 earthquakes since 1904, much of Bagan's architecture has been lost.

In 2019, Bagan was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Covering an area of 50 sq. km (12,369 acres), UNESCO notes that the site includes "3,595 surviving monuments" and includes the Dhammayangyi Pagoda seen at left, built during the reign of King Narathu (ruled 1167-1171). Narathu ascended to the throne after murdering his father, King Alaungsithu (ruled 1112-1167) and his elder brother. This shot was taken looking east-southeast from the Shwesandaw Pagoda, built in 1057 by the founder of the Pagan Empire, King Anawrahta Minsaw (ruled 1044-1077).
