The UNESCO Site Ironbridge on a very bright May day in 2023. The bridge was designed by Thomas Telford and cast at Coalbrookdale.

The Severn Gorge at Ironbridge where much of the town is built on the side of the groge. On a rather bright and warmday early summer 2023.

Ironbridge as a town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of my my very favorite places to visit is the quaint old town of Ceský Krumlov. “It is the second most popular tourist destination in the Czech Republic after Prague. The center of the city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well deserves the designation; a visit is like stepping back in time to the 14th century as you stroll this perfectly preserved labyrinth of laneways with numerous Renaissance homes and buildings.” One fascinating fact I learned involves that big rock you can see at the base of the corner on the left side of the shop. Does anyone out there know its purpose? If not, play along and take a guess!

The Tower of Saint Vincent is another very important fortification in Lisbon Portugal, situated in the banks of the Tagus river. It served as a fortress but also a ceremonial getaway. Built during the Portuguese renascence period, the 16th century, and now another UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Another very crowded place to visit, as you can see in the left of the photo, so the decision was made, we were going to enjoy it from outside, and it was as impressive I imagine. Maybe next time?

Click on the photo, see it a little better.

If you want to know a little or lot about this important place, I found something very interesting:

Photography is one of my passions, and nature photography is my favorite.

I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.

I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!

The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

Lübeck - the former capital and Queen City of the Hanseatic League - was founded in the 12th century and prospered until the 16th century as the major trading centre for northern Europe. It has remained a centre for maritime commerce to this day, particularly with the Nordic countries. Despite the damage it suffered during the Second World War, the basic structure of the old city, consisting mainly of 15th- and 16th-century patrician residences, public monuments (the famous Holstentor brick gate), churches and salt storehouses, remains unaltered.

Lübeck is the second largest city in Schleswig-Holstein, in northern Germany, and one of the major ports of Germany.Because of its Brick Gothic architectural heritage it was placed on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 2009.

The Iron Bridge is a cast iron arch bridge that crosses the River Severn in Shropshire, England. Opened in 1781, it was the first major bridge in the world to be made of cast iron. Its success inspired the widespread use of cast iron as a structural material, and today the bridge is celebrated as a symbol of the Industrial Revolution.

Kroměříž stands on the site of an earlier ford across the River Morava, at the foot of the Chriby mountain range which dominates the central part of Moravia. The gardens and castle of Kroměříž are an exceptionally complete and well-preserved example of a European Baroque princely residence and its gardens.

In 1998 the gardens and palace were added to the Unesco list of world heritage sites.

I'm showing you the vault of the crossing today because I was fascinated by its brightness and simplicity ...

The commission for the basilica was awarded to Michelangelo in 1552, but his sketchy designs were heavily modified ...

the justly famous Michelangelo Buonarroti, who made the dome of St. Peter's Basilica possible and created the statue of David, the Italian painter, sculptor, master builder (architect) and poet, the most important artist of the Italian High Renaissance and far beyond ...

I had two shots of the nave and transept, so I put them together and added the large rest in the corners by hand, which I do frequently and which can be labor-intensive and time-consuming ...

However, I realized again today that the picture then becomes too “small” and the effect weaker. So I separated the pictures again and here you can see the results ...

Getting there turned out to be an unexpected challenge. We were headed for the North Rim, but as we got close, Road Closed signs appeared. It turned out that excessive winter snowfalls had created unusual run-off conditions at the North Rim, apparently knocking out all water availability at the North Rim Visitor Center. What then? Well, drive 167 miles (269km) to the South Rim of course!

Our last day in London.. On a visit to Greenwich.

Greenwich Park is a former hunting park in Greenwich and one of the largest single green spaces in south-east London. One of the Royal Parks of London, and the first to be enclosed, it covers 74 hectares, and is part of the Greenwich World Heritage Site.
