“Rabenau was not alone in using glass plate negatives to capture images of railroad construction workers. From about 1870 to 1920, many photographers used fragile glass plates to portray daily life,” says Convertito. “Plates were sold in boxes, factory-coated with a gelatin emulsion of silver bromide, available through mail order or at stores in large villages such as Key West. The photographer loaded one negative at a time into their camera, made the exposure, and stored the negative until he or she developed it in a home darkroom.”

Je ne sais pas pourquoi cette vue m'a fait penser à un ensemble de building!!

99% Full moon as of Fri, May 04, 2012. Just a day before Super Moon. This construction site and the huge crane provided a nice foreground for the rising moon :)

Turning a dry cleaner into a parking lot

Here is a tiny Orb-Weaver Spider (Araneidae) making a new web to replace the one that was knocked down by the wind and rain last week. The new web looks like it has segments of fluorescent light tubes, but that's just some sort of refraction of the sunlight coming from behind. The finished web is only a couple of inched across, see this photo and below. The tiny spider is only a couple of millimeters across. I was thinking it was one of the tiny Labyrinth Spiders (Metepeira) that I've been finding lately, like in this photo, but it doesn't look hairy enough. Maybe it's genus Hypsosinga for its size as much as anything else? Yeah, this photo is similar to this photo and this photo, but there are subtle differences. Happy Web Webnesday!
