I think I could sit in this seat for a long time with a view like this. #lifesbetteroutside #tylerstatepark #texasparksandwildlife #getoutside #sunrise #lifesshort #iphonography #shotwithiphone #cedarparkphotographer #landscapephotography
I visited Tyler State Park recently. It is located deep in the woods of East Texas about halfway between Dallas, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. President FDR’s Civilian Conservation Corps created the park between 1935 and 1941, and some of the original buildings are still in use. There are tons of camping sites for tent camping, RV camping and there are also cabins to rent, so it covers various levels of roughing it. It has a 64 acre lake that is popular for kayaking, canoeing and swimming as well as fishing. The park also has miles of trails including a 2.1 mile trail that goes all the way around the lake.
I was hiking the lake trail when I found this location, then I went back and grabbed my camera gear and hiked the entire route around the lake to check out other locations. There are quite a few, but this one really stood out to me. I really like how the shape of the cove makes like a winding, mirrored pathway into the distance lined with the grass and then the trees.
About an hour before sunset I headed back to this location, set up my equipment, and waited. Since this was not going to be a direct shot of the sun setting (it was hidden by the trees to the left), I was hoping that the clouds would stick around and that I would see some nice color reflected in them from the setting sun. I was not disappointed! This was the scene just before the sun set completely, which produced these amazing colors that reflected off the tranquil waters of the small cove.
We have been taking new paths through the woods in our park. We were always up high when we saw this waterfall. Now we are right next to it. Unfortunately we had to climb up the hill to get back on the path. Worth it!
The autumn weather has been warm and humid. Strange, but there are some advantages. Many people are enjoying summertime activities!
I watched, a couple of years ago, as this kiln was constructed. At the time, they wondered whether it would be possible to make it hot enough to fire pottery, using only wood as fuel. It worked!
Ice pools...
...which must have melted today, as the temperatures soared into the 60s (above 15.6 C) ... How long will the warmth last, is the question...
Some college students were hanging out under a bridge, on a ledge where I often go to photograph bullfrogs. When I spoke to them, they seemed very interested to know that frogs often spend time there, too.
Since they were occupying that space, I simply crossed the creek and photographed their reflection instead!

I needed a fresh dose of Doodle Bridge! So, I returned there today.
In case you don't follow my stream, "Doodle Bridge" is the name I've given to a wooden bridge in the woods. Boy Scouts built it years ago, and college students have since been decorating it with graffiti of a more sophisticated quality

I took this while sitting with my wife on a bench at the park.
Maybe I should have looked behind me!?
We did talk with the couple down by the water; their puppy is ten weeks old.
Planned on starting off the New Year right by participating in one of the First Day Hikes in one of the many Texas State Parks, but it looked the Texas weather was not going to help any. Over a dozen of the hikes had been cancelled due to weather. Luckily for us, one of the hikes near by had been rescheduled for the following Saturday in Tyler State Park.
Unfortunately, we were not moving too fast that morning and missed the organized hike, but we were not going to miss the opportunity to visit the park. After meeting some family for the lunch and fun in Tyler, we headed to the park late that afternoon. If you have never been to Tyler State Park, it's a lovely park with a picturesque lake in the middle of the Piney Woods. We did the 2.2 mile hike around the lake with camera in hand. This photo was one of my favorites from the hike.
