The Two Buttes 4,711’ (1,436 m) in southeastern Colorado is a prominent double-capped butte rising 356 feet (109 m) above the surrounding plains.
The Two Buttes was certainly known by the native Americans of the region (Comanche, Kiowa and Arapaho) and known to the Spanish of New Mexico (perhaps as early as 1706). However, no oral history, cartographic depiction, or written description of this unique feature of the Colorado plains have been found in indigenous or Spanish-colonial records.
The first known written description was noted by an American trapper/trader, Jacob Fowler, passing through what was then Spanish territory (now southeastern Colorado) in June 1822.
“monday 10th June 1822

These looked like a couple of abandoned sheds, beside a church near the Ring of Brodgar, Orkney, but I think someone might have been living here at some point - there was the remains of a cooker inside.
Continuing with my unplanned recent Sheep theme ..... ;)
A minimal photograph with two Sheep in a frosty grass pasture.
On a windy and cold day in Randolph, New Hampshire. My photographic forays from the vehicle were numerous, but brief, with the heat turned up high in between.

These two little teddies are part of an extensive collection of miniature teddy bears that I've had for over 20 years. These two little guys represent the origins of what we call teddy bear. The one Teddy represents Theodore Roosevelt and the other represents the cartoon teddy that started the craze. Clifford Berryman was a cartoonist and political commentator. The story about the origins of the teddy bear can be found here: www.theodorerooseveltcenter.org/Blog/Item/Political%20Cartoonist%20Clifford%20K.%20Berryman%20and%20the%20Origin%20of%20the%20Teddy%20Bear
Have a great weekend, everyone!
These two parrots are part of one of the shows at Sea World in San Diego and they are a true pleasure to watch and hear. Parrots mate for life and can live to be very old. They often outlive their owners. The oldest one on record lived to be 92. He was a different type of parrot.
ALMOST A CIRCLE is the topic for October 4th - 10th 2025, Group Our Daily Challenge

Two horseshoes doing their best to form a circle, but like true good luck charms, they prefer to stay open to new possibilities. Who needs perfect geometry when double the luck is nailed to the door? A duo that says: “Only good vibes allowed in here!”

… and a reflection
Yesterday we went a walk along the Leeds & Liverpool canal from Foulridge towards Barnoldswick.
It’s a pleasant walk we met few other people… the odd cyclist and dog walker… and a jogger.
It’s a walk we’ve done a number of times, and we both like it… Herbie does too!
