While on the West Coast, gangster Al Capone was said to enjoy partying with Hollywood movie stars. He allegedly had an affair with silent screen star Gladys Walton, who was under contract with Universal Studios at the time. Her movie roles are pretty much forgotten, but she’s still remembered for her role as a real-life gangster's moll.

The Blue Ridge Two-lined Salamander is a highland form of the Eurycea bislineata complex that is primarily restricted to the Blue Ridge physiographic province. It is usually distinguished from lowland forms by its incomplete tail striping but it also tends to be more vibrant and precisely marked. Chattahoochee NF, GA.
Keeping with the gunfighter theme from the previous photographer post, I suppose this is a double barrel shotgun. In actuality this is a stereophotographer, I know because I too, take stereo images. Basically the two images (one for the left eye, and one for the right eye) can be displayed so you perceive depth. Various formats exist, including Anagkyphs [Anaglyph Group] which use red and cyan glasses, and parallel or cross-eyed image pairs [Stereography group].

The Two-striped along with the Differential are the two large Melanoplus grasshopper species in our area dwarfing the other smaller species.
Gold finger-ring with intaglio

Found in Old Ford, Bow, Tower Hamlets
This is one of the finest pieces of jewellery to be recovered from a cemetery. It was found in 1995 during archaeological excavations of a cemetery that served the settlement at Old Force, where the London to Colchester road crossed the River Lea. Five graves were discovered and the ring was found on the third finger of teh left hand of a woman, aged 17-22 years. She also wore a number of copper-alloy bracelets.
The gold ring is set with a carved nicolo gemstone (intaglio). Nicolo is a banded agate of greyish-blue and white. The gemstone cutter removed almost all of the white to leave a hazy grey colour on the surface. It is likely this was a betrothal ring, indicating the woman was engaged or married. The ring shows little wear and may have been fairly new when buried.
Notice that the carving shows two mice dining together. This is a scene from the story of the town mouse and the country mouse, from the Satires by the Roman writer Horace.

Spurred on by the discovery of an extremely rare sarcophagus in Harper Road, Southwark, last year, curators have assembled 250 fascinating objects to reveal the surprising similarities as well as striking differences between the original Londoner and the modern global city that 9 million people now live in today.
These items range from everyday objects, such as pots and vessels which may have held incense used in ceremonies to bury loved ones, to priceless artefacts, like a millefiori glass dish which would have cost the equivalent of a year’s salary for a Roman soldier. These precious items highlight that even from its earliest days, some of London’s population possessed immense wealth, and that the city had connections to the rest of the world.

On October 1, 2011, John Carlos and Dave Zirin launched the book, The John Carlos Story, at Busboys and Poets in an event hosted by Teaching for Change, Edge of Sports, and Haymarket Press. There was a standing room only crowd for this special event. The program started with the book trailer featuring the 1968 Olympic salute by Carlos and Tommie Smith and an interview with them shortly after their historic stand. It caused a swell of applause and probably a few teary eyes. Zirin gave a rousing opening talk that connected Carlos' political stance in 1968 to that historical period and to contemporary struggles for justice including honoring the life of Troy Davis.
