This is a short Photoshop Tutorial to show you another way to obtain a hand drawn pencil sketch. The process that works and has been used by many of us over the years is this, and this is the process I used for image 1 above

Start with a color image.

1. Make a Copy

2. Change the blend mode of the copy to Color Dodge

3. Now press CTRL + I , or go to Image, Adjust to Invert.

4. This will make your image all but disappear, except for maybe a few dark spots.

5. Now go to Filter, Blur, Gaussian Blur. Adjust the Slider to choice. I adjusted to 8

This will give you a color sketch. To get the hand drawn pencil effect go to the New Fill or Adjustment layer icon in the bottom of your Layers Palette, click on Hue Saturation and adjust the Saturation slider to -100. You can also get to this from the Image and Adjustments menu.

To get to the effect on Image 2, the first 4 steps are identical. When you click on the Filter, instead of clicking on Blur go down to near the bottom and click on Other. This opens another menu and click on Minimum. For the purpose of what I’m posting here I set this slider also to 8. Now go to Hue Saturation and reduce the Saturation to -100.

These adjustments work differently for different images depending on size, resolution etc. so you may need to use different ones for yours, just select what looks good to you.

In my opinion the image in #2 looks more like what you might get if you took a pencil and drew the image, if anyone has a better way….I’m listening.

For the sake of comparison I set both the slider amounts to 8 but you will get some very different effects by changes in this step.

And here's the tutorial for my piece Garlics (Sketchbook Mobile on iPhone 4S). Hope it's helpful!

Turn the top flap so that the left side resembles a diamond.

Fold your wreath RIGHT SIDES together and pin. We're going to sew this gap closed. You might like to finish it off by hand as it gets a little fiddly the closer you get to the middle of the wreath.

Now take the second panel cutout and stitch it in place, covering the first set of seams. (This step is optional, but I think it makes them more comfortable)

just a simple tutorial i tried today! Had a little fun.

As mentioned in previous posts. This last weekend I was given the opportunity to help create a tutorial for Photojojo.com. I supplied the images and the details on how I made my photograms, and they Photojojo'd it into what you see on the site. I want to say a big thank you to Lisbeth at Photojojo for the opportunity to share my work and for her kind and supportive help, it was a lot of fun.

Here is a link to the tutorial : content.photojojo.com/diy/how-to-make-a-chemical-free-dar...

Make sure to check out the rest of Photojojo's site, they have a ton of DIY photo projects and some of the coolest photo gear on the web. Plus when your package arrives you get a plastic dinosaur along with it, how could you not want to order something now ?

Freshly Picked has a great tutorial on making a coin purse.

However, I didn't have oilcloth on hand, so I made mine with quilting cotton, batting and a lining. These are my modifications to her tutorial. Please still refer to her instructions for basic construction technique as my pictures only show how I deviated from her tutorial.

{Tutorial will be posted 1/8/11}

... mix it well and make sure to get out the lumps. You want the colors to blend.
