I wanted to upload a tutorial for low key portraits, but couldn't make it work in the 90 seconds that Flickr provides. Instead, here's a condensed version of my editing process for A Latte Low Key, and hopefully the written description below will be useful for anyone wishing to duplicate the low key effect. Low key photos are photos in which the main subject is bright, and the background is dark (usually totally black).
Lighting for Original Shot: 1 octobox 45 degrees cameral left, 1 manual flash 90 degrees camera right. This photo was shot in a small room, so the background couldn't be totally eliminated, however post-processing was still able to achieve a low key effect. If you have a bigger room, or darker lights, similar effects are easily accomplished through lighting alone. However, I've often shot portraits that I later converted to low key, and I find this is a handy trick to have in your toolkit.
Step 1: Adjust exposure for the cup. You want the cup to be "bright", as it's going to be the only thing in the shot at the end. Look for a nice curve on your histogram, and make sure that the cup isn't jumping out at you quite yet, since it'll get even brighter after Step 2.
Step 2: Boost contrast. You're looking to balance the brightness of your subject (the cup here) against having the background fade away. If you can't make the background totally disappear, Step 5 will help.
Step 3: (Optional) Align photo. I tend to tilt when taking shots, this one needed a slight adjustment. For other shots you may or may not need to align.
Step 4: (Optional) Some simple retouching (coffee cup was used =), I wanted the cup to look pristine, so I used the retouching tool to fix a few blemishes. There's no truth in advertising!
Step 5: Local darkening (dodging) on areas that aren't quite black, for example the tripod that the cup was sitting on. This step can be a lot of work, and I only recommend it for small parts of the image. If you are going to spend a lot of time making local adjustments, it might be worth using a more powerful tool like PhotoShop to achieve the low key effect.
Step 6: (Optional) One of the advantages of keyed portraits is that you can easily extend the photo and increase its effective resolution (i.e. compare to taking this photo in landscape and cropping to square). I felt that the square composition worked best, and was able to scale up easily without worrying about the background.
Step 7: Try it! Try it on one of your own photos, the only way to get a feel for how this works is to try it out for yourself!
Tools Used: Apple's Aperture for post-processing, including their provided dodging/burning plugin. Adobe LightRoom, or any other post tool would work equally as well. Adobe PhotoShop used for some (small) adjustments at the end of the video.

No primeiro video algumas pessoas me fizeram perguntas e achei melhor fazer outro bem explicadinho, beeeeeem detalhadinho.
This is my latest video tutorial on how I created this image using photoshop. If you want to download it you can see it here www.christianfletchertraining.wordpress.com
This was a particularly hard image to work so it is a great tutorial in how photoshop can rescue an image that suffered from average light. Enjoy.

6. Cut a hole on either side of the neck hole for the arms. I did my holes while it was folded so that they would be equal distance apart.
7. Put dress on doll tie at waist with a piece of trim, braid, cord or yarn.
Cordie's body fit through the neck hole. If needed, a small slit done the back could be made so that you could fit the dress over the head.
After Image - Used to illustrate a review of the Joey Lawrence Behind the Scenes Tutorial DVD.
Lighting via Contax TLA280 fired into umbrella low to the right, and a Metz MZ40 fired from the left with cardboard grid spot.
Adjustments using Photoshop and the JoeyL action, plus blended texture, also from the DVD tutorial.

Rose water has a number of uses, both cosmetic and culinary.
The toughest thing about making your own is convincing yourself to boil water for several hours during a hot and humid summer day.
Making sure not to disturb the first fold, fold the binding strip straight down matching your binding and quilt edges.
