This is a snapping turtle that was on the pavement at a local state and wildlife fishing area. I actually got down on the ground to get this shot.
This little box turtle managed to position itself right in the middle of the main trail in the Fresh Ponds portion of Delaware Seashore State Park near Bethany Beach. I moved him/her out of the way of my bicycle, and I hope s/he stayed that way. But with box turtles you never know . . . . Photographed on August 27, 2013.

This girl was one of three that was crossing the road. She was the only survivor by the time John saw her, stopped, and brought her to the safety of the ponds at home. She either already had laid, or was ready to lay, her eggs. She moved very, very fast. John put her in Pond 3.
