An African Helmeted Turtle (Terrapin) suddenly arrived in our garden the other day out of nowhere - there are no likely bodies of water around where we could think he came from. We have placed him in the care of a wildlife organisation who will place him in a suitable (wild) environment!

In the market in Iquitos, we saw so many turtle waiting to be bought to be eaten. It was so sad to me because I love turtles, but I guess when it comes down to survival and cultural practice it isn't bad to them.
Keep the smallest creatures in mind during drought conditions..like this small turtle in need of a low drink of water

After laying down a few feet from this gal she opened her mouth nice and wide (not sure if it was a threat display or if she was just stretching her jaw). She quickly realized I wasn’t that much of a threat and and decided I wasn’t worth her time, and went on her way.
near Tampa Florida, I saved its life. It was in the road and I picked it up and moved it off the road. it went into its shell when i picked it up.
This turtle did not look quite as sleek as some of the others. An older animal, or maybe a different species?
