Eggs by Yael (coffee colored shell and scarlet body -- female) and Tecumseh (turquoise shell and gold body -- male). I feared these would be the last eggs they ever lay. Behind the eggs sleep Yatif (emerald shell and purple plastron) and Adiv (Grey brown with rust red plastron). Iyoba stands by the Tumeric bush.
SEASON TO TASTE
I started this by dyeing the background fabric with
tumeric. Clear vinyl was glued to interfacing to create the shaker, pop can was cut to make the shaker lid. Glitter confetti was poured between the layers of the shaker.
Hand dyed cotton, interfacing, vinyl, pop can, glitter confetti, free motion quilted.

My annual egg-coloring experiments: I know the tumeric and red cabbage will produce nice colors, and I"m pretty sure I used the red berry tea from TeaSource before (farthest right). The blue mug is loaded with crushed cranberries, which turned out to have no effect on the shells; that was disappointing. The green much in left foreground had some paprika and a little leftover cabbage, which didn't do much, either.
Hand made polymer clay beads coloured with tumeric spice. These are accentuated with gold plated bead caps, glass seed beads and semi preciuous red carnelian.
Preparation: Within 5 minutes I sliced my finger, so this is mainly Carl's handy work. Had my finger shoved ina bowl of tumeric to stem the bleeding (it's also a natural antisceptic) - plaster on and carry on.
I braised lamb shanks with all sorts of Indian spices -- cumin, tumeric, ground corriander, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, home canned tomatoes. Then we had lots of wild mushrooms, so I did a similar pallet with the last of the peas. We licked our plates.
there's nothing quite like being dedicted to reusing...
i've had the tumeric jar since (according to the label) 2004.

'spice' for the scavenger hunt.
Just cooked up my contribution for a friend's hot'n'spicy xmas eve potluck tonight.
I was certain that tumeric was the spice that added the 'spice' to the dish but it appears I was mistaken.
Garam masala is what I'm after and seeing as I only bought tumeric at my fave spice store in Kensington Market earlier I grounded up some chilis and used that instead. Hope it's spicy enough!
Yummy recipe from Laura Rebecca's Kitchen blog.
added cloves, paprika, mace, tumeric and a fresh chilli. Very nice warm soup for a cold winters day.
Bacon and Eggs at Bacheeso's in Berkeley on San Pablo. Served with sliced potatoes cooked (parboiled & pan fried lightly?) with tumeric and a dill sauce on the side, strawberries and grapefruit. Freshly made conserves, peach and berry I think. I had the marble rye toast. all for a whopping $4.90! (That's the dill sauce served in a little "cup" of cabbage leaf to the right of the potato.) Fabulous breakfast spot. I have a buffet for lunch and dinner that I haven't had a chance to try yet.
Tumeric-dusted rocks are seen at the mouth of a small waterfall. The boats on the left are tethered by plastic tubing while the boats on the right are floating freely.
Spices! Cinnamon, Tumeric, Cumin and Coriander. Each 200g bag cost me about 70c AU. I forgot to buy containers to put them in tho.
lunch today: brown rice and sauteed green beans, carrots, red onions and almonds with a dash of tumeric. very tasty.
