Like a red wheelbarrow, so much depends upon a carefully placed bag...

He gives strength to the weary

and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,

and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the LORD

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint.

Wilmington Priory, Landmark Trust

This garden has been inspired by the power of plants and natural forms in an urban and suburban environment. It is a dry, sustainable garden designed for exploration, revealing areas as you move through the space.

Four bold cedar wood frames create long views through the garden, whilst dividing the space into distinct yet visually-connected areas. Stone and wood are present in conventional garden features (stone paving, walling and seating), but are also used in more stylised features such as oversized horizontally-sliced boulders, a water feature and bespoke wooden sculptures to decorate and energise the design.

The Vestal is a migrant species, mainly occurring in southern England in varying numbers. In good immigration years, several hundred may appear, and some may turn up almost anywhere in Britain

The species breeds in southern Europe and North Africa, and the caterpillars live on knotgrass (Polygonum), dock (Rumex) and other low plants.

A visit to the National Trust run estate of Stourhead in Wiltshire.

Stourhead is a 1,072-hectare (2,650-acre) estate at the source of the River Stour in the southwest of the English county of Wiltshire, extending into Somerset. The estate is about 4 km (2+1⁄2 mi) northwest of the town of Mere and includes a Grade I listed 18th-century Neo-Palladian mansion, the village of Stourton, one of the most famous gardens in the English landscape garden style, farmland, and woodland. Stourhead has been part-owned by the National Trust since 1946.

A look at the middle and top part of the Walled Garden, that we didn't see earlier on during this visit.

Little Dining Room

It began life as a garden hall, providing access to the south lawn outside, down twin flights of steps. But when Colt Hoare added the Library wing in 1792, he removed the door to the garden and steps. Between 1802 and 1809 he renovated the room and brought new furniture from Chippendale. The name 'Little Dining Room' was introduced in Victorian times to distinguish the room from the Saloon, used as the large dining room for more formal occasions.

Do you have the one

The one of eyes that speak honesty

Do you have the one

The one who listens to you troubles

Who patiently sits there adoring you

Do you have the one

Who is by your side

Telling you what you know

Deep down inside

The one just might be you

Southern Trust Building

Little Rock, Arkansas

Listed 9/26/2013

Reference Number: 13000790

The Southern Trust Building was built during 1906-1907, opening to the public on December 31, 1907 _ At ten stories tall it was the first skyscraper in Arkansas, a title it held for only three years, and was the first building in Arkansas to incorporate all of the major components of a skyscraper. Built at a cost of approximately $350,000.00 by the Southern Construction Co, it included fireproofing techniques, steel skeletal construction and electric elevators. It also included pneumatic mail chutes and electric lights. It was lighted by electricity and gas, heated by steam and serviced by three electric elevators. The building was designed by noted architect, George R. Mann in the Commercial Style. The building featured many windows combined with the U shape light-well making it very functional with cross currents of fresh air and sunlight able to enter the windows of every office during the course of the day. As the first skyscraper in Little Rock, the Southern Trust Building is being nominated to the National Register of Historic Places with local significance under Criterion C.

We just got back from a really fine week at Methwold Old Vicarage, a wonderful Landmark Trust property. The house dates to 1490-1510, and is quite beautiful inside and out. For an American like me, the idea of sleeping in a house constructed in the time of Columbus's voyage is just too amazing.

The brick front is a veritable sampler of ornate brickwork from the period and remains a real show piece. There are gorgeous carved beams inside, and cool remnants of late 16th century wall paintings in the main bedroom upstairs that are museum quality. And we slept in that bedroom.

Wow.

We're totally hooked, and definitely planning another Landmark Trust stay before we return to the States this summer!

I have an utter ton of photos. I'll dump most them up to this account without any editing or cleaning, and then post some of my faves to my "real" account as I have time process them.
