On one of my walks recently I noticed that the wood ants are active again. I find them fascinating and as I had my little compact with me and as it records video I thought I'd place it on the nest to film them. I could watch them for hours as they are so busy. I got a couple of nips when I retrieved the camera and, as you can hear, we were on the Gatwick flight path that day...Listen carefully and you might hear their footsteps as they cross the microphone.....
Trust in Dreams
. The background is made with my spray paint technique featured in my Somerset Work Shop article I did this fall. The work is created on cardstock and mounted on cigar box lid. The altered medical book image, a colorful bird, text from a Kahil Gibran poem and found objects such as a tiny key, rusty cog and a tiny light bulb with a secret message inside .. The size is 6.5 inches by 9 inches. It has a wire on the back for easy display, but could be used for a great journal cover!

Petworth House (owned and managed by the National Trust) is a late 17th century Grade I listed country house, having been rebuilt in 1688 by Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset, and altered in the 1870s to the design of the architect Anthony Salvin. It is famous for the extensive art collection of George Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont (1751-1837), and contains many works by his friend, J.M.W Turner.
Grade I listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, Petworth Park is owned and managed by the National Trust, and the wall around the 700 acre deer park is 14 miles long. The grounds are managed sustainably for wildlife and are protected under a Higher Level Stewardship agreement with Natural England. Petworth Park and Pleasure Grounds were transformed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown throughout the 1750s, the formal gardens being replaced with the graceful curves and wide sweeping vistas of a perfect ‘natural’ looking landscape. The Park and Pleasure Grounds were one of Capability Brown’s earliest large-scale commissions and considered by many to be his masterpiece, taking 12 years and no less than five contracts to complete.

A visit to the National Trust property Plas Newydd on the Isle of Anglesey. The seat of the Marquesses of Anglesey.
Plas Newydd is a country house set in gardens, parkland and surrounding woodland on the north bank of the Menai Strait, in Llanddaniel Fab, near Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey, Wales. The current building has its origins in 1470, and evolved over the centuries to become one of Anglesey's principal residences. Owned successively by Griffiths, Baylys and Pagets, it became the country seat of the Marquesses of Anglesey, and the core of a large agricultural estate. The house and grounds, with views over the strait and Snowdonia, are open to the public, having been owned by the National Trust since 1976.
From its earliest known resident in 1470, Plas Newydd passed by inheritance and marriage through 500 years of a family's increasing concentration of wealth, titles and estates, until the 7th Marquess of Anglesey presented it to the National Trust, so that the house and grounds could be opened to the public.

The 7th Marquess revived the formal Italian garden created by his father (the 6th Marquess) in the 1920s. Beyond the hedge at the southern end of the garden stands an Istrian stone statue of the messenger god Mercury.
