Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.

Back in the long cold spring.

This is the horse trough missing from the scene in my Tram Shelter photo. This is where it was moved to - the Market Square, Dover, U.K. I hope the horses drew comfort from the beatitude carved into the side.

This was the last of several identical cast iron horse troughs that were dotted around St. John's. It was moved to Bowring Park from the east end of Duckworth Street on an unknown date.

A brief break in an otherwise wet and dull day!

A Kimberley sunset that gave a nice effect on the trough, just a pity about the power lines.

2 worlds, in bus and on the road

Burlington Northern’s very unique Trough Train slinks around six curves on Montana Rail Link’s Ten Subdivision at Perma, Montana, on September 11, 1998. These huge 278-foot, 13-unit articulated cars were designed by BN and built by Johnstown America Corporation. Each monster car had a stenciled capacity of 28,740 cubic feet. There were 23 cars built and this train could haul an equivalent of 146 standard coal hoppers, at a reduced weight due to lighter construction weight of these aluminum cars. The Trough Train was stored not long after photo was taken, and the train was sent to scrap in 2004. I believe two of the problems that occurred with these experimental cars is metal (aluminum) fatigue and that coal (dust) was very abrasive to the sliding plates of the articulated joints.

Our second early morning trip up Going to the Sun Road was quite "fun"! About half way up a cloud descended on us turning visibility to about 5 feet in front of you. There was no were to turn off (or at least none we could see) and you can't just stop and sit in the road so we navigated the winding road the next 15 minutes at 5 MPH. At least if you went over the edge you wouldn't see the bottom till you got there. LOL!

This was the shot looking back after we finally climbed above the cloud bank.

It was an incredible scene.
