North of Dunsop Bridge, Lancashire
Having just had a few days away in the western lake district we decided to drive over the Trough of Bowland rather than bomb down the M6.
On a good day its a lovely drive over the moors but yesterday the rain came through! The distant hill is Pendle Hill
Hiking from The Table Mountain, Jacumba vicinity to the Old Butterfield Stage Route, down to The Sheep Pens in Mountain Springs Ca. with The Jacumba Hikers. We came across this old watering trough being consumed by the enviroment. the location is at the corner of no and where miles from the nearest habitation. Probably from the days of the cattle drives as these can be found throughout the back country down to the deserts below.

The trough, built by the great grandfather, runs 24 hrs. a day thanks to an underground spring, which also feeds the homes of 3 of 4 other families in the community. The trough sits right on the road and is a landmark. When trying to get back to this place, a local shop owner asked me if there was such a trough where I wanted to go. When I said "yes" he knew immediately where to give directions. The barn across from it is the one that was torn down to make way for the new - as you can see it was getting in bad shape.
A shot from a drive out to Truleigh hill in Sussex last night ,I was drawn to this old cattle trough buy the sky reflection in the water . It was just me the rabbits and the sheep up there last night , lovely.
A South Branch Valley crew moves to the next location to pick up ties along the newly-ballasted right of way. Reportedly, the “V” in the green stripe of the SBVR’s original paint scheme was in homage to the secluded narrow valley through which it travelled, known as the “trough”. Here is a study of the inspiration vs. the finished work.
The pig trough boat was once the working tool of the Mosuo people, traveling between the islands of Lugu Lake, traveling between water and land, fishing, fishing for shrimps, and collecting aquatic plants on the lake, also is love boat, countless sounds of love sing on the boat.

Lake Viedma (Patagonia) 20240206
Viedma Lake is a Patagonian lake in the province of Santa Cruz, Argentina, situated near its border with Chile. Measuring approximately 80 kilometers in length, it is a major elongated trough lake formed from melting glacial ice. Viedma Lake is the second largest perennial lake located entirely within Argentina. The name of the lake comes from the Spanish explorer, who in 1783 reached its shores, being the first European to do so. The town of El Chaltén and the Andes peaks Cerro Torre and Fitz-Roy lie in the proximity of Lake Viedma. Lake Viedma is fed primarily by the Viedma Glacier at its western end. The Viedma Glacier measures 5 kilometers wide at its terminus at Lake Viedma. The brown landscape is a result of ice scouring, which left virtually no vegetation on the steep-walled valleys. Water from lake Viedma flows into Lake Argentino through the La Leona River, and eventually from there into the Atlantic Ocean through the Santa Cruz River. Although the lake lies in Argentine territory, the western shores of the lake reach the Southern Patagonian Ice Field in an area where the border remains undefined.
