Matted triggerplant (Stylidium repens). I measured the flowers at 6mm. Stylidia are entomophilous - the pollen covered 'trigger' is activated by alighting insects (or nosy cameras). Perth , Western Australia.

Camera triggered with Cactus LV5 on channel 16. The laser was aimed so the beam would be broken when the cat jumped.

2 flashes were then triggered via a Cactus V5 trigger mounted to the camera's hotshoe.

the sense of smell is one of the strongest memory triggers...

i have always experienced this in a very strong way. there are many smells that instantly bring certain memories front and center to my mind. some are simple, everyday smells that everyone can recognize and identify, and some are more elusive and harder to describe, and yet bring the strongest memories.

for instance: the smell of clothes dried on a clothesline in the sunshine immediately makes me think of my mom... she always hung our clothes outside, as long as there was sunshine, and as i got older, it was my job to help bring them in when they were dry. so, that wonderful smell of fresh air clinging to a slightly stiff towel is an amazing jog down memory lane.

now, a more elusive smell would be the slightly musty, mothbally, old smell that i associate with the things stored in my grandma's "third room"... the room she keeps all of her craft items in. fabric, yarn, thread, and countless other interesting items are stored here... it was a place i loved to dig in when i was younger, and that feeling has never gone away. now that my grandma is getting older and can't do many of her crafts anymore, she has begun to share many of these things with me, and when i bring them home, there is that unmistakable scent that just screams "grandma's house" on everything.

i have many memories connected with scent that i can't even put into words... some, because they are too precious to share... and some, because they are so elusive that i can't recall them until the moment that a certain scent enters my nostril, and then it all comes flooding back...

but, as a final gesture, i'm going to share one last trigger...

you see it above.

it is the scent of sweet, tantalizing lilacs. these flowers have always been one of my favorites. their beauty is so fleeting and their scent so intoxicating that it's hard not to love them. and, since they are such a part of my whole life growing up, there are, quite honestly, many memories associated with them.... not the least of which is that they remind me of my sister's wedding. we (the bridesmaids) carried lilacs and, for a wedding in august, this was extra special.

however, that is not the first memory that comes rushing to my mind when, on that first glorious day in May, i smell the lilacs for the first time.

no, it is the memory of my dear sweet grandmother who passed away 7 years ago this Christmas... truly one of the sweetest women i've ever known or had the privilege of being taught by... a woman so godly and dedicated... so kind but firm... so caring in all ways, wanting nothing more than to see her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren love their families and love God.

a woman who i miss every single day.

a woman i want to be like.

a woman i will someday see again.

i miss you grandma....

This optical trigger was designed for flash units with low voltage trigger voltages. I have used it with trigger voltages of 6 volts and with some flashes with a trigger voltage of 4 volts.

Optical trigger schematic. Q1 is a photo-transistor that I pulled from old floppy disk drives. I have used small pulse transformers for L1.

None of the parts are critical.

Q1, L1 and Q2 do the initial triggering. The rest of the parts hold the output on and will stretch very short pulses.

I hope the result is ok, because I had to improvise a little bit

- The top image is the front of the skirt, with the focal point being the painting of myself, inspired by how 'Venus' was represented in Sandro Botticelli's "Birth of Venus", where underneath I question: 'WOMAN ENOUGH yet?". With this rhetoric, embroidered in the style of Tracey Emin's appliqué blankets and Vivienne Westwood's textiles style, I try to mock and take away the influence of pre-determined beauty standards imposed on women of the of the past and in the modern day. Instead, in this piece I bring back the attention to women who fought for the equality we are able to enjoy today, and commemorate them. Moreover, I also included collages of transferred images of the suffragettes and of women's marches from the 60s, as well as singular paintings of modern day women in different scales.

- The bottom image is the back of the skirt where I included more collages of transferred images, paintings of modern day women, as well as a large scale painting homage to Judy Chicago's "Tear" to accompany the statement 'MY BODY MY CHOICE'. Through this statement and the homage I bring into focus the modern day issue of legalising safe abortion for all women, which would ensure that all women could have control over when, where and how they choose to give or not give birth.

Charlie's daughter came round. Trigger doesn't have a tail, it's more like a stump so it's quite amusing when she wags it.

Wide Bandpass, fc = 80kHz

DC - 50Hz Line Rejection >120dB, which means it should be more or less independent of ambient light conditions or should have a huge range if used as a slave strobe trigger.

Special thanks to the entire crew at only the best firearms.

This is an attempt (well 2 attempts) at setting up actions using different methods to get a bleach Bypass effect. Not sure it works with this photo so well, it seems to have ruined the detail on the dress.

This is from a shoot I did back in September with the lovely Trigger. We were due to do a shoot last week but it got so cold around the area that I couldn't be cruel enough to have her stand out for a long period of time.

Beautiful fish, but we can't have one in our tank - he would eat anything he can fit in his mouth.

The other side. Note the blue and white connector in the back. This is a gas port. The trigger generator uses two types of gas. Every time a shot is taken, they have to adjust the gas. We'll go over the sequence in a later slide show.
