The village of Vík is the southernmost village in Iceland, located on the main ring road around the island, around 110 miles southeast of Reykjavík. In 1991, the US journal Islands Magazine counted Vik beach as one of the ten most beautiful beaches on Earth. Its stretch of black basalt sand is one of the wettest places in Iceland. The cliffs west of the beach are home to many seabirds, most notably puffins which burrow into the shallow soils during the nesting season. Offshore lie stacks of basalt rock, remnants of a once more extensive cliffline Reynisfjall, now battered by the sea. There is no landmass between here and Antarctica and the Atlantic rollers can attack with full force.

Vík lies directly south of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which itself is on top of the Katla volcano. Katla has not erupted since 1918, and this longer than typical dormant period has led to speculation that an eruption may occur soon. An eruption of Katla could melt enough ice to trigger an enormous flash flood, potentially large enough to obliterate the entire town. The town's church, located high on a hill, is believed to be the only building that would survive such a flood. Thus, the people of Vík practice periodic drills and are trained to rush to the church at the first sign of an eruption.

The village was affected by volcanic ash during the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajokull volcano.

Trigger plants (Stylidium sp) use insects to help with pollination. As the insect settles in on the flower it triggers off a reproductive arm as such with pollen on the end quickly snapping on the unsuspecting insect. This does no harm to the visitor but has left pollen on it's body for when it flies off to the next flower. The trigger winds back ready for the next visitor.

Back from the cottage gentrification project ready for the season and our isolation oasis I hope that you enjoy the continuation of my re-edit visit to the Netherlands from fall 2017 to continue on unabated until arriving in Amsterdam for my final post in the series.

Thanks for all the supportive comments on this Dutch Masters process development and those that just like to have something trying to be a little distracting in their feed other than today’s current events,

my goal is to hopefully trigger a memory or the want of a memory of someplace you would like to be.

As mentioned before my short break, Delft is where we will pick up my reverse chronological order Dutch revisit, captured here is what I thought to be Vermeer’s corner but now upon some reflection realize it is not his view but it is a view of Delft just the same and not a bad one.

Delft is an easy day trip from almost any location in the Netherlands making it an excellent day trip, the core is easily walkable, chock full of historic treasures, wonderful shops, warm cafes and beautiful views and should not be missed.

I took this on Sept 17th, 2017 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens at 58mm 1/40s, f/16 ISO 100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , Luminar and DXO

Disclaimer: My style is a study of romantic realism as well as a work in progress

Many thanks for your kind favs and comments :)

This male eastern bluebird would perch on the same spot outside a nest while the female did her work going in and out with nest building materials.

To get this image, I setup the wifi connection on the camera to link it to my phone. That allowed me to stand back at a distance and wait for the blue bird to return to the spot. It works, but there is a considerable lag, so I wouldn't rely on it if you had to get a shot.

The image was taken in the morning with light reflecting off green brush in the distance. The bird was in the shade, so a flash was used to add some fill light.

We're breaking promises we thought we could keep

We trigger avalanches unknowingly

We travel in and out, we take off, we land

We live in airports like we don't have a plan

This is a journey and we call it home

And when it stops we're feeling miserable

Stylidium are known as "trigger plants" because of the unique, irritable flower column which is triggered by insect visitors. The trigger remains cocked until an insect probes the flower and then springs upwards and deposits pollen on the head or back of the insect which then transfers the pollen to another flower.

Looking Close... on Friday: Spring Flora

It's coming into Autumn here but these Trigger Flowers are trying to make the most of the weather. They usually flower in Spring and Summer but it was so dry and hot that they seem to have put flowering off till later. We've had plenty of rain now so the flowering season has extended.

This was an exceptional evening of lightning .

Shot from our bedroom window , through glass as the rain was torrential.

No editing in software , it didn't need any .

Shooting with my dslr set up on a mini tabletop tripod .

With a mega cheap Chinese built lightning trigger .

No adjustments on it . It's either on or off .

Only Fools and Horses – The “Trigger’s Broom” Joke

“Trigger’s Broom” is one of the most famous comedy moments from Only Fools and Horses.

What’s the joke?

In the episode “Heroes and Villains” (1996 Christmas Special), Trigger proudly tells everyone that he’s had the same broom for 20 years.

He explains:

It’s had 17 new heads

And 14 new handles

Del Boy points out that if both the head and handle have been replaced many times, it can’t possibly be the same broom.

Trigger, completely serious, insists it is — because it’s still his broom.

🎧 I’m worth the time (I'm worth the time!)

I’m worth the love (I'm worth the love!)

I’m worth every single star up above!

I ain't a discount item on a dusty shelf

I’m finally falling in love with myself!

🎧 Cause I’m the one I’ve been waiting for

I ain't looking for a savior at the door

I spent so much time sweeping up the sleeping

Trying to find a heart that was worth the weeping

It took losing you to finally see...

That I am someone worth keeping!

(Oh, I'm worth it!)

I usually setup 2 lights with shoot through umbrellas for our tight little interior shooting area. The lights are triggered with radios, specifically Pocket Wizards. But, let's say you occasionally run into a problem with one, or more, and they don't work, usually a fluke though. Pocket Wizard's are top of the line radio triggers, but even they can fail from time to time. In the above photo the main light on the left didn't fire. Usually, the image would be a "throw away." But, in this case, I kinda' liked the the result and decided to do the edit. It is proof that even one off camera light could yield some interesting results.
