Stylidium are known as "trigger plants" because of the unique, irritable flower column which is triggered by insect visitors. The trigger remains cocked until an insect probes the flower and then springs upwards and deposits pollen on the head or back of the insect which then transfers the pollen to another flower.
Looking Close... on Friday: Spring Flora
It's coming into Autumn here but these Trigger Flowers are trying to make the most of the weather. They usually flower in Spring and Summer but it was so dry and hot that they seem to have put flowering off till later. We've had plenty of rain now so the flowering season has extended.

==============
Photo from the first roll of film used to test my then new Leica M3. I felt so happy pressing that shutter....
There are a few distinct signs that nature sends to herald the month of August. Almost on the very first day, I heard crickets singing in my garden while sipping an early morning coffee on our front porch. Then there are my tall Tree Lilies that bloom with a burst of fresh white at my back deck. These Lilies were given to me by my sister a few years ago. So when they bloom they trigger memories of that wonderful visit we had. Since I have captured these blooms many times, I decided to try a different approach. I used in camera multiple exposures to capture this with 3 images. Then I turned the image a quarter turn to get this composition.
You could easily close your eyes and fixate Autumn windows of your mind.

Have a safe and special day dear Flickr friends !
We have all been on this boulevard (and our eyes were not dry). But before you jump through a glowing ring, save this moment too, because it is short-lived.
This is a double exposure in camera. I chose the subject and photographed it, in the second step I turned the camera once around itself (not very elegant because the head was down ;-*), then I triggered the second exposure. I like the result. But suddenly the EXIF- data's were lost. Gone forever ...
Happy Slider Sunday ya all! Have a good new week Flickr-Friends!

For Macro Mondays theme - the First Letter of My Name
I knew I was gong to run out of time again.... so I took a photo while I was at work!
This is my first serious attempt at Macro. I used 68mm worth of extensions tubes on my AF-S 24-85mm VR since it stops down to f/29 instead of only f/16 like my 50mm prime. I didn't want to mess with trying to focus stack for just the hint more DOF that I wanted.
It's lit by 1 SB-800 which is on it's OEM stand on the table to camera left and is pointed at a wall to camera left about 2 feet away. It's set to 1/1 and 24mm zoom. The flash was triggered with a Neewer radio trigger. A homemade reflector made from aluminum foil is on the opposite side to provide a little fill.

Machu Picchu 20221127
Machu Picchu not only offers the visitor the view of the temples and stone houses that are on its cusp, but also gives a look of its terraces and irrigation systems, which give a unique personality to the Incan citadel and its surroundings.
The Functions of the Platforms
These constructions are wide steps built on the mountains’s slopes that allowed the Incas to gain land in order to develop agriculture adapted to the landscape.
Without a doubt, creating great steps meant a great effort, but without these, the constant rains, the humidity of the environment and the steepness of the area would have triggered large landslides that would have destroyed the ruins of Machu Picchu.
This terrace system fulfills three main functions:
Containment: These constructions prevented the land’s erosion from creating landslides when carrying out the construction of cities, houses and temples.
Agriculture: Through the construction of these platforms, the Incas expanded the amount of land used for agricultural activity. These terraces allowed to take advantage of the rainwater as a source of crop irrigation directly from channels that connected each of the levels. Nowadays, crops are not cultivated anymore to maintain their integrity, due to the condition of World Heritage of Machu Picchu.
Ceremonial centers: these finer and more extensive construction platforms were intended to decorate ceremonial and/or administrative centers.
Stylidium laricifolium
Tree Trigger-plant (It's hardly a tree! even a big clump is hardly 1m tall)
The trigger is to spread pollen on the backs of flying insects: clever!
I find it very inspiring when the groups have a theme.
My creation genes get triggered and I start seeing the world with different eyes to find something that can be fun to capture for the theme.
This is Ribbons and snowcrystals
We have been fortunate enough to have a group of these wonderful birds behind our house. I must admit though that they have been elusive to photograph as they spend much of their time flying and are quick, small targets to try and get a good shot of.
Luckily for me they have taken to a sand hill that has been created by ongoing construction in our neighbourhood and have begun digging out little burrows in the hill. I still found though that I couldn't get close enough to get a sharp shot as everytime I got closer they would take to the air. The time had come for me to try my new remote shutter release...so I set up my tripod with the camera focused on one of the sand holes and moved back within a comfortable distance waiting for them to return. The resulting shot turned out 100% better than any of my previous attempts. Hope you enjoy!
