made a ring flash, only thing that sucks is my lense is capturing the very edge of it lol

The kits (for the internal electronics) are sold here at HiViz.

I recently purchased some radio frequency triggers so that I could take pictures in bright sunlight, and still use my strobes. With line of sight triggering like the Nikon Creative Lighting System, it's often a problem to use remote strobes in broad daylight.

Before I turned on the strobes, I set a manual exposure on the camera that would underexpose the flower and plant by one to two stops. I then lit the flower with an SB600 in a snoot from underneath in an attempt to make the interior of the flower light up. I lit the top of the plant with a Strobie 130 from scottrobertstudio.com to the right of the flower and pointing down at it. Both strobes were in manual mode and were triggered by Tiny Triggers from scottrobertstudio.com. I just experimented until I got the look I wanted.

This looks best when viewed large on a dark background, and you can see it that way by pressing "L".

Other plants and flowers that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/...

EDIT: I.D. confirmed.

This is the trigger for the flash we used for the broken window picture.

Despite having my own set of triggers for being anxious – who doesn't? – I've always maintained a steady refusal for blame. It's easy to look at the world around me and claim a reason for how I'm feeling. But constant anxiety doesn't thrive in normal conditions, it's a mental illness that makes me feel worse than someone healthy in the same situation. It's no more real than when my schizophrenic uncle explained a lost button on his coat as the KGB shooting at him with a laser. Maybe my heart is pounding, my head feels light, and my stomach's in knots – but that would only make sense if death was imminent. I refuse to say that politics, foreign wars, or other existential crises are why I'm feeling wrong. I'm not beyond caring about big issues, but not as an excuse for my state of mind. This summer, time spent finding an annoying squeak in my car made me feel worse than any of my (far more real) ongoing financial struggles. That was a weird week. There will always be new reasons for anxiety, and when I knock one down, the next arrives. Instead, I aim at the source by being alone when I must, sleeping enough, and trying not to take it out on what's outside me.

I used a wire tie as a stress relief so that the cable cannot be pulled out of the hole.

When I wake in the morning the fingers on my left hand are in a curved position and unable to extend themselves. To open my left hand I must use my right hand. The fingers can then close themselves, but when doing so snap back into the curved position and again are unable to extend themselves. At the present time after I have been up and moving for a while my fingers return to a nearly normal function.

This condition is known as "Trigger Finger." It is caused by swollen ligaments in the fingers. The ligament passes through an opening in cartilage similar to a thread passing through the eye of a needle. When the cartilage swells it has difficulty passing through the opening.

I have had this condition in the past. Sometimes it comes and goes on its own. It can range from a minor annoyance to a painful handicap. Once before it became so severe I had to have a cortisone injection to correct it. Although it has never been so extreme for me, in some cases it is corrected with surgery.

Reading about Oscar Levant triggered my memories from August 2008, exactly 15 years ago. I became a benzodiazepine addict. I battled anxiety for a few years, and it was more or less under control. But after College graduation, it went through the roof. I had rocks on my chest. I couldn’t do anything with that heavy feeling. There I was, a 24-year-old College graduate with job offers & a six-figure salary left & right, and unbearable anxiety. I threw up every day. I lost 18 lbs in 1 month. So, for the first time, I decided to handle something not alone. Being almost 90 lbs, I got addicted to meds in no time. I remember walking to my MD and asking for another prescription, and she said, “No.” She offered buspirone instead, a non- controlled anxiety medication. The idea of going on something long-term hit me so hard that I went home and just stopped. I have stopped the wrong way, cold turkey. Withdrawal symptoms were terrible, to say the least—my tachycardia and shakes. I couldn’t go to work. Some days felt like dying. At some point, I just said to myself if my heart would stop, just let it be because living like this is painful. But one day, it went away. But of course to this day I’m claustrophobic. People always tell me how I can fly to Asia & Europe. At first I tried Florida, Mexico then on & on & on. Of course when the plane gets stuck at JFK gate I go through hell. I turn my headphones really loud. I believe that helps.

Ford Triggers supply boom

An announcement by the Ford Motor Company to reduce its number of worldwide suppliers by 90 percent has been welcomed by a South Wales union boss. Andy Richards, Transport and General Workers Union district officer who is responsible for members at Ford in Wales, says the decision could mean more business for local companies.

He said: "The Swansea factory has won a contract to supply Ford's plant in Kansas and the reson for this is because we can do it economically. In Wales we have lower unit costs, and can actually produce things more cheaply. We are hoping that this decision will win back to Wales some of the work currently carried out by component manufacturers in Europe. Ford corporate affairs manager, Don Hume, said the car manufacturer would be reviewing its suppliers on a global basis. "It will affect everyone from people who supply our stationery to those who supply major engine parts, but for those who meet Ford's high quality standards it could mean more business". Part of the changes includes a new just-in-time policy which involves relocating suppliers next to Ford plants to save on transport costs etc. Mr Richards said: "Our Union has been working closely with the company and people like the WDA, who are supporting this initiative and looking at ways of helping firms set up factories close to the main Ford plants".

Here are the main parts for my DIY wireless flash trigger transmitter unit.

Not shown are the keypad (because I'm still searching for a nice one to replace my prototype resistor ladder lash-up), the battery pack (in the post) and the connection to the camera hotshoe (it's a metal vivitar replacement foot which connects across port 3's digital input and ground.

There has been a bit of modification to the LCD controller board and the LCD board. The middle 4 pins aren't used, and thanks to screw pillars in the case, they were stopping the board mounting high up in the case, so they got drilled and filed out. I almost murdered the LCD controller in the process, there's a very thin track which goes just just between the 7th pin from the left (which I removed) and the 6th (which is required), I only just saw it in time! Luckily it survived so I didn't have to tack a patch across from the SMD chip! *phew*

The parts you can see are:

If I have room I have two other small boards from Jeelabs to go inside. A real time clock and a 128Kbyte Eeprom board... What for? Well to record the flash powers for every shot so when I upload my pictures I don't have to guess, I know exactly what power was used for each :-)

A shot from the Bristol Strobist Christmas Shoot. The outfits that both Kae and Hannah wore were perfect for this shot. The angel and the bride... It shouldn't be too hard to come up with a story to match the image.

Post: Lightroom

Immediately applied MikeyG's - Kodak Tri-X 400 Auto preset. This shot had B&W written all over it for the lovely glow that it brings to the image.

Standard exposure adjustments and applied a negative clarity to the image to give it a nice soft "glow".

I used the adjustment brush to paint a -1 stop Burn all across the image then using a low Flow erased the mask. This brought back the exposure fully to their faces allowing it to fade down their bodies but keeping the Burn surrounding them as a vignette.

I added sharpnees and clarity to their hair, eyes, lips, the wings and dress details to return some of what the first negative clarity adjustment removed.

I then added a little more contrast via the Curves as the image was looking a little flat from all the changes.

Some spot healing of black dots on the floor and background.

PT Lens

Fixed a little lens distortion (not much as the Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 has very little to fix. Their feet were looking a little bit clownish though (I'm probably the only person who would have noticed it).

Photoshop CS4

A little bit of healing brush to the more serious scuffs on the floor, I can see more but I'm not that much of a perfectionist with those things.
