Clown Trigger Fish at the Baltimore Aquarium

Ever since I got back from christmas break, the high speed trigger I bought and assembled has been broken. I tried replacing micro controllers on it, as well as contacting the support from the company I bought it from... Nothing worked. After messing with it for a few days and replacing the timing chips twice, I decided to just try sticking the output cables in random places. Turns out, it works fine if you put one of them in the WRONG slot.

Long(ish) story short, my high speed trigger is now operational, and it makes shots like this infinitely easier than trying it manually. Expect to see more of these (even closer up) in the near future.

Stylidium utricularioides

This is a small native annual herb which grows between 0.03 -0.06 m and flowers between October to December. Usually grows in winter wet areas or margins of lakes.

Stylidium's have an irritable "trigger" which moves open and below the flower until an insect lands on the petals. The "trigger" moves over and pats pollen onto the back of the insect. The insect flies onto another plant, gets another pat on the back, thus pollinating the plants. The trigger then resets itself.

So me and my friend Trigger had a bit of a play around with the camera (unfortunately the 400D and not my 50D) in my makeshift studio

Bit of an impromptu shoot with Trigger organised the night before - 21.09.10

A game of Carrom after a really long time

A laser trigger was set up to take photos (and fire a flash) of everyone who passed through the doorway of the code.lab space.

The images were then sent to a computer which analyzed them as they were received and attempted to detect faces. (badly)

(in this case the peak of the building across the street was mistaken for a face)

I want to take photos of bats. So I'm building a trigger with lego mindstorms. (It's what I have) This is a crude prototype, the motor will be replaced by an electronic trigger very soon to eliminate the 1/10 sec delay in triggering.

As a surrogate bat I have a paper plane launched at just under 10m/s. It's all rather succesful if not particularly aesthetic just now.

Strobist: flagged flash set to 50hz strobe, radio trigger connected to lego mindstorms, light beam gets broken and the flash goes off less than 1/10 sec later. Shutter open in dark room for 2 secs.
