Some photos from Monday night's fun time party at the Pan Pacific Masters Games here on the Gold Coast where Captain WOW entertained around 1500 competitors after a day of competition. Nick, Courtney, Shonay Raynham, and Jodie really had the crowd on their feet singing and dancing to songs participants at the Games grew up with.

Now this show took me back to my surfing days at Bondi Beach and the music I grew up with. Great show put on by The Beach Boyz at South Tweed Sports Club. The first strum on the guitar had hardly been struck and the dance floor in front of the stage was full - and they were doing the twist, mashed potato, the swim, the monkey, the watusi to name just some of the old dance moves on display.
Great night, highly recommend, will certainly catch these guys again in the not too distant future

Options Tavern at Helensvale was the venue of last night's Masters of Rock Show featuring the music of Michael Hutchence, Jimmy Barnes and Bon Scott in their Australia's Favourite Sons show. It had to be seen to believed. If you closed your eyes and drifted into the clouds, the sounds you were listening to you would have sworn were those of INXS, Cold Chisel and ACDC playing LIVE right there in front of you.

What a night listening to Tim Gaze and The Echoes playing the music of Eric "Slowhand" Clapton at Club Burleigh. This was simple music, stripped back music, no fancy costume changes - this was the way Blues and Rock are meant to be played, au naturale - raw and plain. And boy did those of us present get treated to some great guitar playing by one of the best in the business, ably backed by some great musicians. For someone who grew up with the music of The Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes it was so Wonderful Tonight! Slowhand - The Music Of Eric Clapton performed by Tim Gaze

This really is a show not to be missed when it comes to town with the performance of John Blunt with his voice and stage presence taking you back to the days when Freddie Mercury fronted the legendary Queen.

Sensational show this morning in the iconic Twin Towns Showroom. Playing before a sold out crowd of 1000+, these guys recreated the music of the 50's, 60's and 70's before an enthusiastic audience who showed their appreciation by not just singing along to the tunes of yesteryear but by also giving this show a standing ovation.
Hadn't seen the Mason Rack Band since Blues on Broadbeach and had been hanging out to see them again. And it was great seeing them again.
This band brings entertainment and audience participation in a live show to a whole new level. Will be watching out to catch these guys again real soon.

Well that was a show with Sir Mick strutting and pouting on stage while Keefy was doing the splits and all sorts of acrobatics - great show, great music and great memories of tunes I grew up with in the 60's and 70's. Went down to see Paul Hayman present his '50 Years of Legends' show and boy, what a show this is - great songs from yesteryear performed by a great singer who is more than ably supported by Kylie Wall with some astounding dance moves. Another SOLD OUT/STANDING ROOM ONLY show last Saturday night at RSL Club Southport. The Eagels Band once again showed why they continue to be one of the most popular groups in the country - it was great watching these guys on stage interact not just with the audience but with each other and boy, did they have fun on stage as can be seen in many of the photos.
Their harmonies and musicianship on stage had the full house on their feet singing and dancing along to songs of yesteryear, songs that have stood the test of time.
On a personal note, there was no better way for me to spend the 11th anniversary of a massive heart attack than listening to some of the greatest music of my youth being performed by some of the best musicians we have in Australia - discovering live music here on the Gold Coast and rediscovering photography during my recovery process were two things that helped me after that life changing event.

Playing in "The Big Room" at Twin Towns, Paul Hayman's show, Cloudland the Musical, thoroughly entertained a crowd of 900+ people. This wonderful concept show traced the history of the iconic home of music in Brisbane, Cloudland, through story, dance and song.
To the strains of tunes of a time gone by, the audience laughed and sung along to songs made famous by Normie Rowe, Buddy Holly, the Bee Gees, AC/DC, the Angels, Cold Chisel to name a few. Kudos to Paul on taking an idea and creating a show which was brilliantly choreographed by his wife, Kylie Wall.

When I heard earlier in the year that this show was coming to the Gold Coast I knew I had to see it. And James G Brennan, as the Boss, didn't disappoint. Been a Springsteen devotee for as long as I can remember and the band on Saturday night did full justice to what Bruce and his E String Band have brought us over the years.
Featuring James G Brennan Peter Ferguson Luke Williams Ash Higgins Jason Chandler & Adam Owens on the mighty sax!
My particular favourites were "The River" and "Jungleland", who can say NO to a bit of SAX and we got plenty of it in Saturday night's show. Will definitely catch James and his "Boss Experience" when they are next on the Gold Coast.

Great show last night with The Beatlegs at CSI Club Southport. These guys are the real deal, full of life and laughter on stage - and they had the full house on the dance floor from the first strum of the first song.
Listening to songs like "Hey Jude" and "She Loves You, Yea, Yea Yea" was great but the standout song for me again was "A Day In The Life".
This was the third time I have seen this group in the past three years and definitely look forward to seeing them again when next they are in town.

What an incredible afternoon of live music at Nerang RSL with the incomparable Mental As Anything rocking the house of over 500+ punters. First saw this group back in 1976 in Sydney when I was completing my BA Dip Ed - and boy, did I get an education from these guys back then! And today, 43 years later, I was up there with the best of them moving to hypnotic sounds of Greedy Smith and his great band.
Opening for the Mentals was Gold Coast local Nick Waters who most certainly got the huge crowd into the mood for when Mental As Anything took to the stage.
"A popular urban myth concerns a group of art students who passed themselves off as a band in order to con the local publican into giving them a gig in exchange for free beer. The deception worked better than intended, and the group came to be known as Mental as Anything. Nearly two decades later, they are still irritating the public with their highly listenable, idiosyncratic brand of garage pop. A self-explanatory single to reflect their success, The Nips Are Getting Bigger, rose through the charts as did their fundamental understanding of the old adage that 'for every action there is a reaction'. Ahead lay a very lengthy pub crawl which only the accomplished could survive."

Last Sunday we joined Betty, Dot and Mabel who took us on a journey back in time to the 1940’s. We re-lived some of the classics of the day including The Andrew Sisters' Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree, Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again, songs by Doris Day and many more! It truly was a trip down memory lane for a lot of people who were there on the day.

Was great catching up with Nick Waters in a solo show on Sunday afternoon at Advancetown Hotel. Great session of songs I grew up with from the late 60's and 70's.
Nick is a terrific musician and showed everyone just how good he is playing both acoustic and electric guitar.
Put Nick down in your diary for when he comes your way either in a solo act or with his well known band, Captain WOW band.
