One of my all-time favourite birds. This one was as brave as any I've seen and let my move in for a head and shoulders portrait.

Et bien les Amis....on parle du Printemps ? Plutôt moche non ? Dans mon temps on disait "l'hirondelle fait le Printemps"...

Three Tree Swallows discussing the coming of Spring...or not.

Taking a moment to rest, this tree swallow perches at the top of a tree at Potter Marsh.

Yesterday I mentioned that the White-tailed doe I posted was the first of several nice wildlife sightings and photo ops during a morning visit to Custer State Park in South Dakota. My first ever shot of a Tree Swallow was part of the experience.

They're BACK! Well, so are a lot of birds as it's that time of year to refurbish the nest, lay eggs, raise young, that sort of thing. But in Alaska it seems to go very quickly as they have to get it done and then fly south to enjoy the warm winters.

This very pretty male Tree Swallow rests a moment from all the hubbub going on with the nest building. It was overcast that day so I wasn't getting that very blue iridescence popping on this bird, but it's still quite gorgeous.

Tree Swallow in Flight - If you have ever tried to photograph these guys you know how tough it is. They are very fast and almost never sit still.

I photographed this one in the rain yesterday. Lots a rain here but just needed to be out yesterday. The overcast skies really brought out this one's teal color though.

I hope everyone enjoys this image!

usually swallows are busy doing acrobatics in the air, snatching insects on the fly ! it was nice to see one at rest

Tree Swallows

Went to the Marina to get it all set up, knew there was some Martins and Swallows there, but this was a great surprise.

Love was in the air yesterday. Killed a few brain cells trying to capture the moment with these Tree Swallows

Went back to check out the young ones. They all fledged and were out hunting for food. Very cool to se. Some did a good job.

A Tree Swallow warning all other swallows that this is his and stay away.

I hope everyone enjoys this image! :D

Yesterday, my husband and I found a place where the Tree Swallows were having a party. We sat for most of the morning watching them as they flew right over our heads. Sometimes it looked like they were going to fly right into us when suddenly they veered of to the side and missed us. They are so fast and efficient in their flying. We practiced trying to capture them with our cameras. When we got home, we both realized we needed to do better. So we went back again today! We had time to spare for practicing our skills and getting it right. Plus, we enjoyed being a spectator in the quiet setting with the warm sun on us. I still am not completely happy with my results and I look forward to going back again! Happy Wing Wednesday!

Je n'ai pas souvent l'occasion de les photographier ailleurs que sur le nichoir ou un fil de clôture .

I do not often have the opportunity to photograph them elsewhere than on the nest box or a fence wire.

This guy was yappin at everything and anything. Very vocal, much more so than any of the others.

"Take my picture, I'm the prettiest!"

I posted a set of three Swallow species this evening. They were taken at various times and at various locations around Edmonton this season.
