The young never peeked out, but this Tree Swallow and its mate were busy delivering feedings and removing the babies fecal sacs. This is some type of a Bluet damselfly I believe.

Bringing back food for the nestlings. Such a short time with these birds, They arrive in late April, early May and are gone by the mid July.

Love the colours on these birds. They fly so fast that I am happy to take pictures when they land somewhere!

A little noisier than I like, I should have shot faster but the light was duller than I like. There was a huge number of Tree Swallows feeding over the ponds at Willband Creek Park.

Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

We thought we were lucky this year when the tree swallows chose our box to raise their family. This was after missing the last 2 years. We were excited that there were 6 perfect eggs. But yesterday morning when I checked, there were no eggs in the box. They were broken under the box and all the feathers had been removed. I just learned that this was the work of a house wren. They break the eggs and remove all the feathers because they don't use feathers to nest. But these swallows have been very active and it appears that they may be trying again. I sure hope so. Taken in my back yard in Calgary, Alberta.

I will only be on Flickr intermittently as I am very busy at home.

A tree swallow alights on a cottonwood branch, pausing from its acrobatic aerial ballet while hunting flying insects. Tree swallows occur throughout most of North America, though migrate seasonally from Mexico northward during the breeding season.

It's that time of year again.

Compositionally Challenged: Hobbies

I like having a look around the neighbourhood park to see what seasonal visitors I can find.

Perched on a Bat Box, and enjoying hunting bugs in the area (which is fine by me) this tree swallow spent several minutes entertaining me.

Is she blinking or did she lose an eye? I don't know; i suspect the latter. But what I'd really like to know is how did she get her head on backwards?

The nesting cycle here on the northern prairie runs through May and June, and she was busily bringing material to a snug little bird house along the fence line.

This ends the "birds with nesting material" photo set; tomorrow, a chance encounter. Surprises are the best part of any outing.

More of a record shot and a reminder to me to watch my camera settings.

Only time I could access this bird was during our paddle on the rural Cornwall marsh.

Tree swallows have arrived! this couple seems to have an argument about the quality of this swallow box.

Handsome aerialists with deep-blue iridescent backs and clean white fronts, Tree Swallows are a familiar sight in summer fields and wetlands across northern North America.
