I've noticed Mistletoe growing increasingly in UK trees, so I read up about it and learnt that it's due in part to an influx of continental blackcaps from Germany that have started overwintering in Britain, with many thousands now spending their winters here.
'Blackcaps are migratory warblers that are becoming regular winter visitors to our bird tables. Berries, including those of mistletoe, are an essential part of their diet. On eating the white flesh of the mistletoe berry, the birds wipe their bills on twigs and branches, leaving behind the seed. If the seed is deposited on a host tree and manages to take hold, a mistletoe plant might germinate on the branch. It seems that blackcaps are more efficient at spreading mistletoe seeds than other birds, such as the mistle thrush, which also feed on the berries.' - www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2018/12/where-does-mistleto....
'According to the Anglo-Saxons, kissing under the mistletoe was connected to the legend of Freya, Norse Goddess of love, beauty and fertility. According to legend, a man had to kiss any young girl who, without realizing it, found herself accidentally under a sprig of mistletoe hanging from the ceiling.' www.thewhitegoddess.co.uk/articles/mythology_folklore/mis....

I took this photograph in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. My eye was caught by the way these trees were growing on the mound of rock. I also liked those green leaves against that deep blue sky. I do not know what these trees but there are quite a few contacts out there who certainly will….. ID gratefully received

One from last weeks Peak District near Torside. Planned to drive up when it was snowing and it didn't disappoint.
First time I've used my Walimex fisheye for a few years, pointing it up at these beautiful trees seemed like a good idea, even though the light wasn't fabulous. That and the quite severe CA the lens produces in such a high-contrast shot led me to process it in b&w. As usual with this completely manual lens I set the aperture to f/8 and the focus to infinity.
I found this fuzzy looking Cottonwood Tree at the beginning of the hike into Little Wildhorse Canyon, near Goblin Valley. The shape and color of the tree stood in great contrast to the clear blue sky in the background.

I laid flat on my back as I was tipping over trying to capture this bare tree while standing up on a side of the hill :)
I'd probably look really awkward lol

A very Happy New Year to all at Flickr, all the best for 2007!!
Trees are poems that earth writes upon the sky, we fell them down and turn them into paper, that we may record our emptiness.

Trees of Life
The trees line the road for a long way and they are all different, twisted and knarled.
Autumn beckons and the leaves will soon be gone.
From Easter day at Skylands Botanical Garden, New Jersey. It was a very large and stately tree, I think they are cherry blossoms.
A tree with such wide and powerful limbs. I could only think of them as arms reaching out to attack me. Seriously it was such a beautiful tree with such expansive and reaching limbs in every direction. Such a work of art.

Tree, Dear Tree,
In the Spring, you give the birds a place to rest.
On your lovely branches I can hear a family of Robins singing in their nest.
Some trees are short, some trees are tall,
But all trees are lovely as their leaves change in the Fall.
I love to see your reds and browns, but your golden yellows are the best of all.
How beautiful you are covered in winter white,
As you stand in the snow and your branches are frozen in ice.
Then again comes the spring so crisp and clean,
Waking you out of your slumbering sleep.
Joyfully telling you another year has gone by,
" Look up dear tree you have grown one inch more closer to the sky." ~
