A quiet Sunday morning at Larkrigg (bridge 180) near Kendal on the dry northern reaches of the Lancaster canal. I was there for about an hour before the tow-boat circus turned up. I was a bit worried at one point, if someone was to asked me what I was waiting for, my reply of "a boat" might have caused some concern. I did think that if I added that Captain Jack Sparrow will be in command, the police would soon arrive! The larch trees on the left were planted by the canal company, very forward thinking of them, as their boats used Larch.

This tree was behind the caravan at Plehérel-Plage near Cap Fréhel and I took some shots of it with different skies in the back.

Same tree, different shot. Kind of amazing how a dead tree can make a interesting shot. Hope you like it.

This tree has managed to grow in an area of essentially solid rock in Yosemite National Park, and yet at home, in my own back yard, I can't even get some of the trees I planted in fertile soil to grow! I have already had to replace one of the trees two times, after the first two died. Maybe my soil is not so fertile after all, or my trees just aren't good at persevering!

There are many deciduous trees coming into leaf along the Cape Fear River Trail, thick enough now to spread a welcome shade as the season heats up.

Third of a series of Tree variations. I like this one because it's sharper and a bit less cluttered. Please check them all out and let me know which you like best. Thanks.

This is an old picture that I found. I intended to post it a long time ago but never got around to it. It is a little stream out in the country (the middle of nowhere Kansas actually) that I drove by and turned around and went back to look again. The only thing I did to this was crop it. I hope you enjoy it.

Angel Oak Tree

The Angel Oak Tree is estimated to be in excess of 400-500 years old, stands 66.5 ft (20 m) tall, measures 28 ft (8.5 m) in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet (1,600 meters). From tip to tip Its longest branch distance is 187 ft. It is a southern live oak located in Angel Oak Park on Johns Island SC.

This image was taken at Fort Richardson, which is a Texas State Historic Site. My previous image seen below, as it sits today, the hospital kitchen is filled with soft light and warm tones unlike what it was in the past...a place filled with injured soldiers either too cold or too hot and lacking modern medicine. Outside the shelter of the hospital is a harsh land. This tree may be a Black Oak...I have two in my yard, and they take on such unusual shapes and their leaves are small, thick, and sturdy. Rarely do they lose their leaves in winter. The Ranger explained that because of drought, many trees and plants surrounding the fort grounds have died. It's an amazing landscape...I just can't imagine standing there in the extreme heat of summer.
