Ah, the joy of childhood, when a kid gets a new bike. My grandson was all smiles, recently.

Ok, I know I didn't have a helmet on...
Probably taken by my Mom, circa 1972, with her Kodak 110 camera.
I'm seen here riding my Schwinn bicycle in the driveway of our house on Kaipapau Loop, Hauula, Oahu. It was a 2nd Birthday present, and I apparently rode the bike a lot.
My Mom remembers that it was HEAVY, and rusted in the salty air. My sister was it's next owner.
My parents had no idea of what they started...
She gets so frustrated when she get stuck in a hole, or is on the slightest incline. Part of learing to ride is learning patience and to trust oneself.
Lulu masters the bicycle. That expression says it all. A defining moment of childhood. The sense of pride and accomplishment.
She came at it a bit later than her brother. She learns different and at a different pace. We took it easy. No pressure. Training wheels were preferred to a balance bike. Then... up with the training wheels, a bit at a time, until she started to keep the bike upright naturally on her own. Now, she is mobile. Wobbly, sure, but mastering control.
(IMG_5662) Only way to get the pictures I got here was through a screen, This was pretty funny to watch. Once in a while the driver would knock over a cone, and a guy on a moped or Vespa type red thing would scoot out and pick up the cones.

Here's a really pathetic fact about me:
I never learned how to ride a bike.
I KNOW, it's absolutely the saddest thing you've ever heard since you found out Michael Jackson died! I should be on Oprah, seriously....
(LOL) Now that I'm done being sarcastic and silly, I will divulge the reason I don't know how to ride a bike; I was never really taught. I remember the day my mother took off the training wheels. I fell, started to cry, and I guess my mom just lost patience with me 'cause I was never taught again. =(
But, I digress. Life goes on. =D
So, I know I said I'd upload the pics from the Met game I went to on Friday, but I'm way behind on my uploads and I'm determined to just upload one a day so as to not burden my photostream with photos that get lost in the shuffle and forgotten. Thanks everyone for waiting patiently! <3

he really figured out pedaling today, to the point where he can ride around in circles in the driveway unassisted.

Although I’m a little sheep, I’m not tiny. Sometimes when I meditate I dream of a world where I am a tiny sheep, sneaking through tiny cracks in the wall, hide when evil people try to make me take a bath, feast on ginormous cookies and use my mommies ring as an exercise wheel.
I think it would be fun :-)
We met this little boy and his bigger friend on the trail today. He carried on quite a conversation with us, with the pacifier in his mouth the whole time.

Much like some grownups I could name, she really only wants to ride her bike if she can GO SOMEWHERE on it.

Kids were excited to get their bikes out for the first time since fall. In snowpants and boots, but biking!

.......do ya still have any of that birthday cake under your hat? We may need it for sustenance."
Louise, "Nah, it got all sticky in my hair; probably should'a wrapped it up 'afore I stuck it there."
Poe, "REALLY Louise, you are causing me to lose my patience!!!"
Lousie, "How was I supposed to know?!?!?!?! I thought we was gonna eat it right away!"
Poe, "I sure hope the males come back soon for us! If they don't mom's gonna be soooo pissed! She'll kick their asses!!!!"

Apparently co-branding is "in", as witnessed by this cheezy Ducati kiddy bike. Actually there was a whole line of cheezy Ducati bikes but one photo was enough.
Despite the shitty lighting I just had to pay homage after coming across this scene in a park one night.
At the end of every year, the peloton awards this high-quality trophy the poor sod who has spilt the most blood in pursuit of his/her cycling recreation. I am the current owner, because, in the first three months of riding with these guys, I fell off my mountain bike and opened up my right leg and forearm; off my road bike and onto my face and right leg, again; and finally had my spectacles blown off my face onto a busy road.
Little known fact: some people can measure tire pressure by carefully placing two fingers on a set distance on the tire. The technique is based on the changes in electric conductivity of the rubber compound under pressure. Sometimes I have nothing better to do than to write silly descriptions to flickr pictures.
