From My Photo Archives: Young girls riding decorated bicycles in the 1998 Riverfest children’s parade at Riverside Park in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on July 4, 1998.
The other day, my older son pulled the training wheels off his bike without assistance, hopped on and took off. It is so indicative of his drive to do something when he wants to do it. The hard part is getting him to apply that same determination to other less fun activities like cleaning his room or working on his homework.
Quiz Time!
1. If you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why? I never met either of my paternal grandparents, so most of my family history knowledge is from my mom's side of the family. I'd like to meet my grandmother, partly to see how she'd respond to my artistry and more importantly to see what aspects of my dad she sees in me.
2. What did you wanna be when you grew up? Car designer. I kept that dream alive until a summer engineering program for aspiring high school students shook my belief in my math abilities. (Kids - learn to love yourselves at an early age, not just because you should, but also because it can impact the course of your life and opportunities available to you later in life.)
3. What's your biggest asset? Being able to see things from all different perspectives and viewpoints. I feel that growing up biracial and cross-cultural (Dad was a Liberian immigrant) in a Midwestern city which had both colleges and factory jobs gave me a really broad perspective on life in the United States.
4. What's your favorite late nite snack? I don't snack, but I'll go with peanuts. Lightly salted.
5. If money were no object, what would you like to do? Go back to school, get a degree in graphic design, pay off my condo, and make my mark on the aesthetic world.
6. Name one talent you wish you had. I wish I could sightread music and play it on-spot. I played the piano from ages 9-21, and was good at mastery of the music and technical peformance, but I couldn't sightread to save my life.
7. If you knew then what you know now......... I'd have spent less of my youth uselessly fighting myself and my instincts and would have applied all that angst and drive toward something useful.
8. Would you rather take a dip in a lake or the ocean? As you can see from the photograph, I'm all about Lake Michigan.
9. What are your two favorite movies? I have many, but for the moment I'll go with the orignal 1974 "Gone In Sixty Seconds" and "Heathers".
10. List three things you'd like to achieve in 2011. Get a (good) job. Complete a photo book of my Back to the Bricks Car Cruise photos from 2010. Master Shutter Priority Mode and my tripod. (That last one counts as one thing.)
So now you know some (more) bits of information about me, just 'cuz. If I tagged you, it’s because I think you're cool - LOL. Don’t feel obligated to complete.

What a difference a fully-furnished studio makes. This isn't HDR, just really, really controlled lighting. Strobist: All Profoto heads, shot into large softboxes on left and right sides, full power. Another into beauty dish, slightly camera right, 1/2 power. Another as hairlight on 1/16 on top and behind subject, and two more, bare, for background, full power. Triggered with some sort of tethery, electronic string-type device.
This is an undated photo of a bicycle with training wheels. The bike is conveniently parked in someone's living room right between an RCA Victor television and a small table with a lamp.

Today was Darek's one day off this week so we spent most of it relaxing around the house. We did a photoshoot with the bikes we got for tonight's PTOTD Toy Drive...We want to cover the cruiser with toys.
We took the bikes to this evenings PTOTD Mixer. Bill, Rusty, Darek & I went to Loco Charlies for supper afterwards.

I'd never before seen an electric tricycle with two training wheels in front like this one above. For that matter, I'd never before seen an electric tricycle with a canopy overhead like yours, Sir. Thanks for this. Best Wishes. Peace.
I liked Rikx's idea for a title for this:
"Easy Rider III - the Later Years"
Isn't that great? I had to laugh!

A tennis court is a safe, enclosed, smooth surface to practice your bike riding....as long as no one wants to play tennis.
Seen and photographed on a crosstown sanpo with Kiyoshi-san. (There were two little girls riding together, but I could never figure out where there parents were... I hope not far away!) Stanley Park, Vancouver. June 17, 2011.
