"It's a little difficult to see the horses in this photo but it appears the towpath is on the far side."

My children have always walked along the Erie Canal towpath, when visiting family and friends in Pittsford, NY. This trip was no exception. We had a brisk walk on a glorious fall day, just a few hours before the wedding of a dear friend. Sometimes life is very good :-D

I got to 3 miles from the Kings Lock on the days walk along the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal, Middlewich Branch.
AtHalton on teh Wendover Arm of the Grand union canal. When I wa syoung I used to come here lots. The Wendover Arm is a canal witout any locks, it follows the contour of the front of the Chiltern Hills escarpment.
Nestled on the borders of North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire a hidden gem of a place, Turnerwood. The Chesterfield Canal runs through this scenic location just a couple of miles West of Shireoaks.
People coming and going alongside the Union Canal at Fountainbridge. As well as a nice leisure route for walking or cycling, it also offers a handy route for commuting by foot or bike, away from road traffic. And, of course, that also means a nice spot for me to take some people watching shots!

Been meaning to do a walk on this section of the Stratford-on-Avon Canal for a while now. Didn't want to do it during the July heatwave, and now it's cooler I headed off for an afternoon's walk.
Got the 50 down to The Horseshoe pub then got on at Alcester Road South. And walked as far as the East Portal of the Brandwood Tunnel.
As you can't walk into the tunnel (no towpath) you have to go up the towpath into Brandwood End.
Almost didn't find the towpath to the West Portal, but checked Google Maps and found it in the end.
After I got back on, just walked up to Kings Norton Junction (halfway along it started raining).
A look at the East Portal of Brandwood Tunnel. The towpath leaves the canal heading up towards Monyhull Hall Road, Broad Lane, Brandwood Park Road and Brandwood Road. To get back onto the canal, you have to go over to Shelfield Road. Although at first I went down a bit of Monyhull Hall Road, but realised I went the wrong way!
After passing the East End of the Brandwood Tunnel, the towpath heads up to the roads above.

Winter Time and the Going Ain't Easy.

Fallen tree across the canal.
THis was a large Oak tree that was on the far bank. The branches were blocking the towpath on this side of the canal. Luckily the people in the boat cut out some of the branches to make it passable.
