Whilst Aspley Marina is itself reasonably attractive, the moorings alongside Sainsbury's have deteriorated. Some of the boats can best be described as a mess, whilst the towpath has become a storage area for anything not wanted on board. This used to be a very attractive area and may now be a reflection of the tough Financial Times we now live in.
A Middleton Photography Group walk to the Rochdale Canal, Chadderton. Afterwards, we all had a meal in the Lancaster Rose by the canal.
I love the reflections that you get in autumn and winter on the canal. In summer the canal sees so much traffic that the surface is usually disturbed, and the leaves on the trees hide the strong lines of the trunks.

"It's a little difficult to see the horses in this photo but it appears the towpath is on the far side."

People coming and going alongside the Union Canal at Fountainbridge. As well as a nice leisure route for walking or cycling, it also offers a handy route for commuting by foot or bike, away from road traffic. And, of course, that also means a nice spot for me to take some people watching shots!

I was snapping some people watching shots along the canalside on a spring evening, zoomed in to get a couple of this chap cycling along, couldn't help but notice his headphones were somewhat askew as he passed.
My children have always walked along the Erie Canal towpath, when visiting family and friends in Pittsford, NY. This trip was no exception. We had a brisk walk on a glorious fall day, just a few hours before the wedding of a dear friend. Sometimes life is very good :-D

This is one of the best spots to railfan between Utica & Syracuse in my opinion. Part of the old Erie Canal towpath parallels the old NYC main on the long defunct West Shore RR at left. I do a lot of railfannig here, as a large parking area sits out of view on the old W.S. At one time, a bridge carried the Shore over the road. Both the elevated right-of-way, and West Shore bridge and grade which the parking lot now occupies are long gone. Unfortunately, I missed a golden opportunity as a westbound CSX freight that I was oblivious to passed just seconds after I snapped this photograph.
