Swan having a stretch on the Calder & Hebble Navigation near Brighouse

(Brighouse Echo 29/10/2020)

I have walked this trail around the canal for many years. There have been times when the channel was so low in water that narrated tours have to be canceled because the ship is unable to sail. Sometimes it's almost flooded and on the coldest days of winter it freezes over. Still, it doesn't matter because I always enjoy the walk.

I wanted a "sunnier" feel to this, hence no textures or "ageing" effects.

The shot was taken by the old Coalport China works, just outside of Ironbridge.

This is the towpath between North Warnborough and King Johns Castle. Despite it being Autumn things are a rich green still for the most part and with the reeds growing so high you can’t even see the canal at times! Lovely though with sounds of ducks coots and Little Grebe.

A favourite place to take photographs on the canal. Today there were a couple of swans who posed perfectly for the picture..

Delaware and Raritan Canal

Washington Crossing, NJ, USA

The canal built in the 1830s connected the Delaware and Raritan Rivers. It was an efficient means of transportation of freight between Philadelphia and New York City. The canal cut many miles off the existing route down the Delaware and up the Atlantic Ocean coast.

This image is of the arm of the Grand Union Canal towards Market Harborough,at the bottom of the ten locks at Foxton in Leicestershire, where canal users either ascend or descend the longest set of staircase locks on the canal system in Britain. The Grade 11 listed locks are a popular tourist attraction but I liked this image as it was so much more serene than the hustle and bustle of the locks themselves.

Many thanks for taking the time to view this and other images in my photo stream.

This walk took a little less than 3 hours and no hills! :-)

Taking a shortcut along the canal on one of our X country routes. Nice to ride in the sunshine, and looking forward to the warm days of summer.
