The C&O canal towpath looks like this most of the time. The surface is substantially worse than that of the GAP trail, with frequent potholes and tree roots. Still, especially since it was dry, the trail was easily passable on my road bike with 700x28 tires.

British Waterways usually cut he towpath's vegetation to ground level, but this gorgeousness occured when their contractors missed a visit. Just look how picturesque the towpath at Tottenham can look!! Give nature a chance - it increases biodiversity too!. I have been talking with BW, to see if we can have the trimming done a little less frequently.
