Touching takayna
Just a quiet little rainforest scene from deep in the takayna rainforest of Tasmania. In a place where few have ever been.
Landscape photography is as much about capturing small, intimate scenes, as it is about grand landscapes and dramatic light.
The connection that we feel, the places where we find joy, beauty, meaning ~ these to me, are the places and moments and dialogues with the land, from which meaningful and moving landscape photography comes.
To have a unique dialogue with the land is a journey without an end, full of discovery, both of self, life and light, embracing not only the earth but universe around us.

A view of a rainstorm over Utah Lake from a remote wilderness mountain ridge. I had to hike from where I had camped to get to this spot before sundown. Because I was hiking alone, I was intent on making it back to my overland truck before sundown to avoid possible issues with wild animals (mountain lions, bears)... but I wish I had stayed longer.

I've been here a few times, and I honestly think there is a world class photo here - I've just not captured it on film yet.
Some people's comments on my photography have made me think about adding a human element to them - I still like people out of my shots, but I couldn't resist this for my flickr cover page photo. I uploaded two shots in one day!

The two giant standing pillars are the remains of the Roman Temple of Hercules. Once connected to the Forum (downtown), the temple was built during the reign of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD 161–80). The only obvious remains are parts of the podium and the columns, which are visible from around town. There’s also a rather touching remnant of a stone-carved hand, which shows the level of detail that would have adorned the temple in its glory days.
Only the very peak of the Grand Teton is kissed by light in this very cloudy dawn... Taken from the Snake River Overlook, Grand Teton National Park... The trees make a replica of Ansel Adams photograph impossible these days, but it is a truly great view and the gloomy conditions are a blessing in my opinion... Hope you enjoy!
Above 10200 feet, standing on the icy snow, looking at the alpine glow on the Minarets was a memorable moment!
It was quiet and very quiet morning, as a matter of fact, no other people and animals were around ;-)
This is a pano shot (5 pictures were stitched together).
There had been lots of the usual clouds and rain and then the sun came out! Just like in Ray Bradbury's "All Summer in a Day", I had to take advantage of the situation so I took my camera for a walk in Pitt Polder. :-)
Did I play with the clouds? Of course I did. :-)
