The 2020 Ferrari 812 Superfast is an example of what happens when an automaker commits to crafting a vehicle that offers the best performance money can buy. With almost 800 horses under the hood, this coupe provides brutish power, facilitating a zero-to-60-mph sprint that clocks in at less than three seconds. Fuel economy is poor, and the 812 Superfast's $330,000-plus price makes it accessible only to the very privileged few. Still, if you have deep pockets and a thirst for spectacular handling, this skilled Ferrari won't disappoint.

Ferrari's 812 Superfast gets its muscle from a 6.5-liter V-12 powerplant, and this engine delivers a bracing 788 horsepower and 529 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels. The 812 Superfast holds a place among the quickest of the quick. In our track tests, it sprinted from zero to 60 mph in a scant 2.8 seconds. That's a dazzling performance, but it trails that of the McLaren 720S. That car made the run in just 2.7 seconds. Handling is nimble, especially when you consider this Ferrari's relatively hefty curb weight. The engine note is mellifluous, and the car's brakes are potent enough to bring this beast to a quick and decisive standstill.

The Enchanted City is a Spanish natural area of calcareous or limestone rock formations formed over thousands of years. It is located near Valdecabras, in the municipality of Cuenca (Spain), in a wide area of pine forests in the southern part of the Cuenca mountains and at an altitude of 1,500 meters.

It was declared a Natural Site of National Interest on June 11, 1929. The action of water, wind and ice has made this karstic phenomenon possible. The heterogeneity of the rocks in terms of their morphology, chemical composition and degree of hardness is what has allowed their uneven wear by atmospheric elements, resulting in a surprising sample of picturesque art from nature itself. To the whimsical and spectacular existing formations we must add lapiaces, torques and sinkholes.

It shares these characteristics especially with "Los Callejones", a place located in the municipality of Las Majadas. Both places are part of the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park, created by the Law of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha 5/2007.

Five different inline-six engine options were offered to customers. Four of these were variants of the naturally aspirated 4.0 L Speed Six fuel feed by multipoint fuel injection making different amounts of power and torque, depending on the trim level selected. The last was a 3.6 L Speed Six which produced the same amount of power as the lowest-level 4.0 L engine, although slightly less torque.

Only made in 1954 with a Torque Amplifier.

In 1969 the 2-door sedan was dropped at the end of 1968 and replaced with the “Swinger” model 2-door hardtop – available in Custom, GT, and GTS trim. Also added was the Swinger 340. At the top of the Dart performance engines for 1969, the 440 CID V-8 was made available in the Dart GTS. The Dart 270 nameplate was replaced by the “Dart Custom”, but was otherwise the same model.

The entire 1969 Dart range received trim updates including another minor revision of the grille with a return to rectangular park/turn lights. The round side marker lights of 1968 were replaced with rectangular versions. Head restraints were optional equipment until January 1, 1969, when their installation was mandatory……….( hmmm, guess a lot of broken necks before ’69 )

Dart Swinger 340

The Dart “Swinger 340” with its light weight and the 340 COD performance V-8 proved to be very popular with many performance enthusiast. While it lacked some conventional creature comforts, such as carpeting ( So does this mean the floorboards were bare painted metal?? ) and no bucket seats ( but we assume it did have seats, right? ) – what 340s lacked in luxuries, the light weight combined with the lively 275 HP engine resulted in more than lively performance. ( Of course - ALL swingers have “livery performance.

440 CID Engine Added

Rather than offering the 426 CID “Hemi” V-8 as the top dog performance engine as was available in the mid-size Dodges, Chrysler decided to install the 440 CID “RB” wedge powerplant, rated at 375 HP. Surprisingly, many were ordered by customers. Larry Shepard, Chrysler staff engineer, said: “In 1969, we built over 600 440-powered Darts – basically the same as the 383 GTS, except for the engine.” ( plus a hell of a lot more expensive! )

Note

Even with the addition of the Dart Swinger, it is reported that sales dropped by about 40,000 units. (hmmmm, guess a lot of people didn’t like the idea of “no carpeting”…….( especially if you ordered the high performance 440 and installed exhaust headers! Forget about listening to the radio! )

Color of car F6 Bright Green (surprise!!)

Special:

- With Carozzeria Pininfarina S.p.A.’s help the large body of the 403 Berline was created, presented on April 20, 1955 at the Palais de Chaillot (Trocadéro Palace) in Paris.

- Remarkable for that time was the thermostatically controlled fan, which stopped when the engine temperature came below 75 degrees and started as soon as the temperature rose to above 84 degrees.

- Another novelty was a heating system for the carburetor, responsive to switching on the heater in the car.

- The Peugeot 403 was the first French car with a diesel engine in mass production.

- The 403 Series was available as this 4-door Berline, as 403 B7 (Sept) Berline or "Berline Luxe" (1960-1966: 1290cc TM5 engine, 47bhp, 172,513 units built), as 2-door Cabriolet (1957-1961: 2,043 units built), as 5-door Familiale (1956-1962: 34,928 units built), as 3-door Fourgonnette Tôlée (1956-1962: 6,892 units built), as 3-door Commerciale (1956-1962: 112,601 units built), as 3-door Plateau-Cabine (1956-1961: 27,066 units built), as 2-door 403 U B8 Camionnettes Bâchée (1956-1962: 155,709 units built) and as Ambulance (826 units built).

- A total of 1,196,958 cars were assembled in France (Sochaux), Australia, Argentina and in New Zealand.

I love this guy's face...he's so tough - looking!

For the Macro Monday theme of measurement I have chosen a torque wrench with a 3mm and 5mm socket - this is a wrench for by bikes both road and mountain bike as on a carbon frame it is important you measure the force you apply when tightening bolts or fixings.

- This mid-engined, targa-topped two-seat roadster was designed by a co-operation / joint venture of Volkswagen (to replace the Karmann Ghia) and Porsche (to replace the 912), while Karmann manufactured the rolling chassis at their plant, completing Volkswagen production in-house (VW-Porsche 914/4) or delivering versions to Porsche (Porsche 914/6) for their final assembly and was presented at the 1969 Motor Show in Frankfurt.

- In Europe the 914/4 models (1969-1976) were sold als a Volkswagen-Porsche, the 914/6 models as Porsche, while at the American market all models were sold as a Porsche marque.

- The 914/4 Series was for sale with a 1679cc flat four - 80bhp/4.900rpm (65,531 units built), a 1795cc flat four 85bhp/5.000rpm (32,688 units built) and this 1971cc flat four.

Station Wagon the badge indicates. IMHO, this proves the notion that Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is but a "marketing spin" term for a station wagon. It doesn't matter if a station wagon or SUV is based on a car or truck platform. It is spin, spin, spin.

Special:

- The body, based on Typ 3 platform (VW 1500/1600) and for that called „große Karmann-Ghia“ / „big Karmann-Ghia“ in Germany, was restyled by Sergio Sartorelli from Carrozzeria Ghia SpA, Turin - Italy, but built by Karmann in Osnabrück - Germany.

- The Typ 34 was the flagship model of the entire Volkswagen line. It was the most expensive Volkswagen available (handcrafted body), the fastest, and the most luxurious (built-in fog lights, cigar lighter, electric clock, locking steering column, front & rear vent windows, variable wiper controls and luxurious interior).

- Initially, this would replace the original Type 14 Karmann Ghia, but later it was decided to assemble both types at the same time.

- Sales went bad because Type 34, nicknamed “Razor-Edge Ghia” in the UK, was almost as expensive as a Porsche 356 and it was not offered officially in the USA. But nowadays the USA has the largest number of known Typ 34’s Karmann Ghia’s left in the world (400 of the total 1,500 (officially registered) to 2,000 or so remaining.

- Currently, less than 1500 are worldwide registered at the “VW Type 34 Karmann Ghia Registry”, San Diego, California - USA.

- Production figures from Convertibles differences, but it is very likely that 12 vehicles (prototypes and zero-series) were built at Karmann in Osnabrück. Some sources mention 17 prototype units.

- Lorenz Karosserie GmbH, Wetter an der Ruhr, Northrhein Westfalen - Germany converted Coupé’s into Convertibles on customer request. There should have been about 20 Lorenz Convertibles.
