Another little dohickey for the repair stand column. This one lets me hang the torch up when I'm in the middle of brazing on a frame and need to adjust its position.

The Olympic Torch Relay came through our village on Monday, and there was quite a turnout - I'm sure it's the largest crowd of people I've ever seen here. This is now getting me really excited for the London 2012 Olympics and I'm looking forward to being there this summer!! :D

USDA Forest Service Tallac Hotshot holds the line as tree torch on the Carr fire (Photo:Jones/Gaule)
(Redding, CA) On July 23, 2018, the Carr Fire ignited. Efforts of nearly 1000 USDA Forest Service employees, and wildland firefighters, from initial attack and weeks following, highlight how men and women of cooperating agencies stand strong together. Meanwhile families were evacuated, homes destroyed and even now, as our employees continue to be impacted by the devastating effects of the fire the response continues

We were lucky enough to have the Olympic Torch Relay passing through the streets near us today, so we waited in the basking sunshine for the convoy of vehicles & runners to appear. Apparently there were approximately 5,000 people lining the streets where we waited.
We were really lucky that the next person in the relay was dropped off directly in front of use and paraded the torch for all to see whilst waiting for the official runner to appear with the torch & flame. Most of the time she was stood holding the torch close enough to me so that I managed to get these fab close ups. And luckily we even managed to get a perfect view of the torches kissing flames, as they passed the flame on to the next runner in the relay. Amazing atmosphere and so glad I was there to witness it.
Hope you like the series of 19 photos I've uploaded, which shows the events that took place in cronological order.
Drip torches sit filled with a part gasoline, part diesel mixture. If the torch were filled with only gasoline, the ignited gasoline would burn to quick once on the ground, the diesel has properties that make it stick and burn longer. The tip of the fuel torch is ignited so when a splash of fuel emits from the nozzle it catches fire, creating a small fireball. Photo taken on 12-13-08. Credit: Ian Horvath
The Statue's old torch is lowered to the ground, and prepared to go to the on-site workshop where it will be repaired, and a new torch made. The old torch is now on display in the lobby of the monument.
