In 1964 Ford unveiled the 427 SOHC V-8, which produced more than 625 HP at 7200 RPM with dual 4-barrel carburetors. Ford's answer to the Chrysler Hemi then dominating NASCAR, it was rendered obsolete by a rules change outlawing both engines. One of the approximately 75 built now powers this outstanding and powerful 427 Cobra replica, which also features a Borg Warner Toploader 4-speed, stainless steel headers and exhaust, custom aluminum radiator and aluminum engine bay paneling. Finished in Red with an outstanding Saddle interior, it rolls on polished Halibrand wheels and includes a chromed rollbar and front and rear bumper guards. No expense was spared in building this awe-inspiring showpiece.

Sagada is not wanting in sights to see nor things to do: picking oranges in a fragrant orchard, spelunking at Sumaguing with a cool swim waiting at the end, bathing under the early morning rainbow at Bomod-ok, snapping shots of a gorgeous, foggy sunrise at Kiltepan, sighting the last few wild horses, doomed by a territorial dispute, at Marlboro, haggling for the plumpest strawberries at the Saturday town market, shouting your love for the Knicks (or someone right beside you, that would take a lot more bravery) at the Echo Valley, wondering what Sagada smelled like at the height of the popularity of the hanging coffins…

Which is probably why the town was crawling with tourists when I arrived. Never mind it was almost high noon when I clambered off the roof; George Foreman could not have been prouder of the grill marks on my ass. I was grateful enough to have caught the last full ride to Sagada, after chasing my previous rides on the Batad-Banaue-Bontoc route. On the way into town, I caught a whiff of the most amazing smell: baking butter and cinnamon. I resolved to find the source after I had put my legs back into commission.

The pine trees of Sagada, my fellow brash American toploader told me, were planted by his forefathers, who encouraged locals to do the same after the Spanish occupation. While not as tall as their Baguio counterparts, at least the Sagada pines don’t have to fear the invasion of the mall shaped like a shoebox (yet). The trees are an essential part of the quiet, mountaintop town ambience of Sagada. They serve a far nobler cause than any marketplace humans could think of.

1963 FORD GALAXIE 427 LIGHTWEIGHT FACTORY DRAG RACER. Incredibly rare 1963 Ford Galaxie Factory Lightweight Race Car featured in Corinthian White with Red interior. In 1963 Ford built 212 Lightweight Galaxie factory race cars. Features common to these cars include Fords 427/425 HP R-Code engine, Borg Warner 4-speed aluminum transmission, Dual Holley 4 barrel carburetors, Fiberglass front fenders and trunk lid, Heater, radio and arm rest delete, Special lightweight interior components, Bostrom lightweight bucket seats, Rubber floor mat, No seam sealer or sound deadener throughout body panels, Aluminum front and rear bumpers and brackets, 15 inch Kelsey Hayes wheels. This car was found in Georgia and has been the subject of discussion on many forums. The car was located in Georgia and restored by a respected expert. It has fewer than 500 miles since restoration. In period a similar car turned the quarter in 12.49 seconds at 116.27 MPH! The lightweight looked a lot like the street Galaxie 500, but the appearance deceives. Aside from some sheet metal and the 427 block, they had nothing in common. Even the frame was derived from the base 300 series and built with lightweight outer rails, all part of an effort that took hundreds of pounds out of the car. And while the 427 Galaxie 500 Sports Hardtop was the car used in Fords dominating NASCAR program, the lightweight was strictly for the dragstrip. This Galaxie was restored to authentic as-raced configuration including Police Interceptor low-fade 11x3-inch brakes with drilled backing plates, race-spec aluminum RC Industries bellhousing, heavy-duty suspension, and an aluminum-case toploader T-10 4-speed. The interior has no sound deadening or seam sealer, heater or radio; no roof supports, door pulls, dome light, reverse lights nor mirrors; no trunklid springs or even provision for a spare tire. Even the Galaxies padded sun visors were replaced with pieces of cardboard and instead of carpet, a half-thickness rubber mat. The car has an open exhaust system and makes an incredible sound.

The custom strap : .That was the "hardest" part of this mod... you'll need to spend some time sewing it nicely.

Handlebar straps : simply some regular wide velcro mounted on the custom strap.

Carry a single can of your favourite beverage, or in this case my usual commuting-kit of spare tube, multi-tool, tyre-levers, co2 doodad & canister.

Elastic band the goes around the head tube to keep the bottom of the bag steady.

I was happy to see Toploader still operate their T cab as they are getting pretty rare these days .

This image was originally rather dull and boring, but into Lightroom and there you go!

Bill Schultz of Norton, MA, started building his ’33 Ford roadster in 1950. He channeled the car’s body the full depth of the frame. A ’32 Ford grille, flanked by a cut down ’41 Ford bumper, led the way. The chromed front axle is a tubular unit from a ’37 Ford. Schultz built a custom pair of hairpin radius rods, with his initials “BS” acting as a reinforcement. This car’s unique rear end treatment consisted of an extended, custom tail pan that held four ’50 Pontiac taillight housings, two for the lights themselves, and a second pair to highlight twin exhaust pipes from a modified Ford flathead V-8 that was linked to a ’39 Ford three-speed toploader and then to a ’40 Ford rear end.

Check out the stance, the way he's using the knee "as a tripod" to stabilize the camera. Very pro look!
