Ahhh, the cap on the toothpaste... the proverbial source of marital friction. After 13 years of marriage, I have finally figured out the solution to our toothpaste woes and have put an end to the crusty, oozy mess that results when my husband leaves the cap off of the tube. Now, we have his and hers toothpaste and he can do with his what he wants. Sure, it costs twice as much when you buy it but you only have to buy it half as often! I mean, just because you're married, doesn't mean you have to share everything, right...?

I've been making my own toothpaste since May when I learned the recipe from the Compact group. Only hard-to-find ingredient is glycerin. Tim, who buys glycerin to stretch his pricey lube, thinks that it's because glycerin is an ingredient of bombs. Well you can still get it at Whole Foods in the toothpaste section. Here's the recipe:
6 teaspoons baking soda
1/3 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons glycerin
15 drops peppermint or wintergreen extract
UPDATE: I now make 3 x this amount so I don't have to make it as often
6 table spoons baking soda
1 tsp salt
3 table spoons glycerin
1/4 tsp peppermint
Mix together into a paste and store in a container you can get a toothbrush into. It's very fresh tasting, though a little salty. I gave three friends samples and they all complained about the salty taste, but I like it because it makes my teeth feel like they've just been polished. My dental hygienist said she would prefer I use something with flouride in it, but that my teeth were so well cleaned she wouldn't want to change anything.

I love how in toothpaste commercials they always cover the entire head of the toothbrush in toothpaste. Then they double back for a second pass.
I think they do quite an effective job of subconsciously convincing everyone to use several times as much toothpaste as we really need, which of course means we end up buying more toothpaste. :P
Go on, brush theme!
This one is made with lightbulbs who prestents bright daylight. Its good but I don't get the whitebalance in the presets just right.
Next time I will do it by hand but to day I am to lazy.
First some teeth to brush and than to bed.
O, Biggiesize for the toothpastefetish.
Chocolate mud cake with dark chocolate ganache for a Dentist friend who loves chocolate!
My first time not using ribbon or something to cover the very base of the cake. I was quite pleased with how this part of the cake worked out. Not so pleased with the piping! I have never piped letters before - it probably took me an hour to write "Happy 40th"!! Will keep practicing, hopefully my friend is happy with the thought behind it, if not the execution.
